Chapter 50 Waiting for Me to Get Off Work
Edmond had just been angry with Alicia in his apartment. His heart had softened the moment he heard Alicia say she was coming to meet him.
He wanted to say yes.
However, his face froze when he turned his head to see Melissa gesturing to plead in the hospital ward.
Then Edmond lowered his eyes and fell silent for a moment.
Alicia thought Edmond was silent because he didn't want her to come over. So she was a bit upset about it. After all, it had taken her a lot of courage to say that she was going to see him in the hospital.
She felt a little ashamed of herself. Then she quickly acted cool and said, "Forget it! I'm not going over there. I was just saying."
Edmond immediately replied, "I can't let you do it first."
Alicia froze and asked, "Do what?"
"To make the first move."
Edmond paused. His tone sounded gentler than it was earlier.
"I'll meet you after work. Wait for me."
For the first time, Alicia was looking forward to getting off work so badly. She was so nervous she kept looking up at the clock.
It turned out that Edmond got off work at 6 p.m. just like her.
Edmond would drive here from the hospital through two main avenues, where there were a lot of cars. He had to drive for at least 30 minutes to get here.
As Alicia waited anxiously for Edmond, her secretary knocked on the door and came in to report.
"Ms. Casey, Mr. Charles from the AQ Group called and said he's arranged a dinner party for tomorrow. If you apologize to him in person with sincerity, he is willing to give our company the opportunity to work on the project."
Alicia's face sank.
Matt hadn't given up?
The other day in Blendford City, Matt attempted to sexually harass her but was caught by Edmond in the act. And now he dared to come to Arnoford City?
Alicia then immediately guessed that Matt must be the reason why the directors were condemning her at today's meeting.
The board of directors were in constant fight with each other. As an acting CEO, Alicia often felt exhausted, but she had to carry the burden.
If Alicia made one more mistake, the directors may decide to reelect the CEO and set up a spy to devour and destroy the company.
Since it was the company that Peter built with his own hands, Alicia would not allow it to be destroyed at her hands.
Alicia always told herself that she was managing the group to repay Peter for raising her for so many years. Thus, she gritted her teeth every time she had to deal with those people she didn't like. With every step she took, she felt like she was walking on thin ice.
She also wanted to be free. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
She craved for someday when she could freely express herself and choose to be around people she genuinely liked.
"Why are you crying?"
A sudden voice rang out. The moment Alicia was shocked and looked up, she saw Edmond walk into the office. Edmond was looking at her with a frown.
Alicia panicked and wiped away the tears that were in the corners of her eyes.
"I'm not crying. I just got tears in my eyes when I yawned. You were so slow. I got sleepy waiting for you."
After saying that, Alicia acted like everything was fine. Then, she turned off her computer, picked up her handbag, and stood up.
"Let's go to have dinner."
Edmond didn't believe her words, but he didn't expose her.
Alicia was very reluctant to let anyone see her vulnerable side. If Edmond had exposed her on the spot, it would have infuriated her.
Now that the employees were off duty, no one saw Alicia and Edmond coming down the stairs together.
After they stepped out of the elevator and arrived at the garage, Alicia had thought they would each drive their own car. However, Edmond followed her to the red Ferrari with his hands in his pockets.
"Why are you following me? Where's your car?"
Edmond took a glance at the red sports car. Then he dropped his gaze to the passenger seat where other men had sat and said meaningfully, "I want you to be my sugar mama."
Alicia didn't understand what he was saying.
Immediately after, she saw Edmond open the passenger door, sit in it, and raise his chin to her.
"Licia, get in the car."
Alicia was dumbfounded.
