The Bad Guy
Jessie returned to her apartment and threw her bag on the couch. How could she fall for Jaime’s trap and now she’s gonna pay dearly for it, especially her career. If it gets out, she might lose her job or worse would never get promoted at work.
Jessie’s mind was racing as she thought about the possible consequences of her actions. She felt guilty and ashamed of herself, but she also felt scared about what might happen next. Her career was on the line, and she didn’t know what to do.
Should she tell Alex what had happened? Or should she keep it to herself and hope that Jaime never told anyone? Either way, she felt like she was in a no-win situation.
As she sat on the couch, tears started to fall down her face. She was overwhelmed with emotions and didn’t know what to do next.
Suddenly, there was a knock on her door. She froze, not knowing what to do. Was it Jaime? Or was it someone else? She stood up, her heart pounding in her chest, and made her way to the door. She hesitated for a moment, then slowly opened it.
Standing in the doorway was Marissa. She looked at her with a worried expression on her face.
“Jessie, are you okay?” she asked.
Jessie’s stomach dropped. She couldn’t bring herself to meet Marissa’s gaze. “I… I don’t know.” she stammered.
“Can I come in?” Marissa asked.
Jessie nodded, stepping back to allow Marissa to enter. She closed the door behind her and turned to face Marissa.
“What’s going on, Jessie?” Marissa asked, her voice full of concern. “You seem upset. Did something happen?”
Jessie hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to say. Finally, she said, “I… I don’t know. What are you doing here? And how did you find my place?” she asked.
“Well…. um…. Anderson told me about this place and Alexander’s driver dropped me off at the front of your apartment and he’s waiting for me downstairs.” she said.
“So I guess you and Alexander are officially gonna get married and so you are no longer a fake wife but you’re gonna be the real wife.” Jessie said, as she sat down on her couch.
Marissa didn’t say anything at the words Jessie said.
The room was silent for a moment, the only sound was the ticking of a clock on the wall. Marissa took a deep breath, then spoke.
“Jessie, I didn’t come here to gloat to your face or make you feel terrible.”
Jessie looked at her.
“Then why did you come?” she asked.
“I came because I was worried about you.”
Jessie scoffed.
“You’re worried about me? You wanted to come and see if I was drowning myself in alcohol and crying about how I got dumped by my own boyfriend who is now your soon to be husband huh?”
Marissa shook her head. “That’s not why I came, Jessie. I came because I care about you as a person, and I wanted to make sure that you were okay. I don’t want to see you in pain, and I certainly don’t want to see you drown yourself in alcohol or anything else. You’re a good person, and you deserve to be happy.”
Jessie’s expression softened, but her voice was still heavy with sadness. “I’m not happy, Marissa. I feel like my whole world has fallen apart. Everything I thought I knew about myself and my relationship has been turned upside down, and I don’t know what to do next. I feel so lost.”
Marissa reached out and took Jessie’s hand. “I know it must feel that way right now, but I promise you, you’ll get through this. You’re a strong, intelligent woman, and you’ll find a way to pick up the pieces and move on. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it in the end.”
Jessie looked down at their joined hands. “How can you be so sure?” she asked.
Marissa gave her a small smile. “Because I’ve been there and I know how it feels to lose the one thing that’s precious to you.” she expressed.
“I lost my parents when I was still in high school and so I had to do a lot of things myself which included taking care of my brother and trust me, it wasn’t easy. So when my brother fell ill and I had to take him to the hospital, the doctor informed me that he was gonna die if they didn’t perform surgery for him. I didn’t have any money for the surgery and at that moment, a lot of thoughts were crossing my mind and one of them was maybe I should give up because I had no one to ask for help and I had no means to pay his bills.
That was when hope came through for me and brought Alexander into my life and so I decided to be his contract wife but only for three months.
It was never my intention to come in between the two of you.” she said.
Jessie was silent as she took in Marissa’s story. It was a heartbreaking tale, and she could only imagine the pain and fear that Marissa must have felt at that time. She could see the sadness and strength in Marissa’s eyes, and she realized that Marissa had been through a lot in her life.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“That’s terrible.” she said softly. “I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for you. I’m so sorry.”
Marissa gave her a small smile. “It was hard, but I made it through. And you will too, Jessie. You’ll get through this.” she assured Jessie.
“I don’t think I would be able to forgive myself. And the surprising thing is that Alexander felt that it was his fault I got dragged into this whole issue.” Jessie said.
“I guess, he realized that it wasn’t your fault that everything happened. Jaime is the bad guy here and he used you to get what he wanted.
