Chapter 54
Ring, ring, ring…
The phone in Lianne’s pocket received a video call request.
It was Tyler. Lianne had not had time to switch the voice setting when the call connected and Tyler
yelled, “Where did you go again? Are you not coming home tonight?”
Lianne immediately turned down the volume and said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry! I wanted to tell you just
now, but I got interrupted…”
Zane could no longer hear what Tyler said, but he could see how Lianne had a good temper when she
coaxed the man.
Was her marriage not as happy as he perceived it to be?
Lianne coaxed Tyler for a long time before Tyler and Sierra let her go. After ending the call, she looked
at Zane again.
She felt the chill and hostility in his gaze.
Zane lit another cigarette. Under the flickering light of the fire, he said slowly, “Does he always treat you
so badly?”
“Yeah.” Lianne nodded but quickly shook her head. “Nah, this is the way we communicate. We’re rude
to each other because we’re close. Only those who aren’t close will be polite to each other.”
Those who were not close would be polite to each other.
Just like her relationship with him at the moment.
No matter the occasion, Lianne always greeted Zane with a smile.
This recognition made Zane feel a little more frustrated. “How did you know each other?”
Zane did not mention that person’s name, but Lianne still knew who he was asking about. “We got
acquainted on a blind date.”
“Blind date?” Zane thought of his marriage again, which was considered a blind date of sorts.
If nothing had happened in the States and he had not left her alone, would his marriage have failed as
it had?
“Nowadays, everyone works from nine to five every day and is too busy with work. There’s no time to
date, so a blind date is the fastest, most direct, and most effective way to get married.”
Since Lianne felt comfortable chatting with Zane, she temporarily forgot that Zane was her boss. Thus,
she was so bold to ask him about the topic he had expressly forbidden. “Mr. Atlas, how did you and
your wife meet?”
Zane did not want to mention that woman again. However, when Lianne asked, Zane still answered.
“She and I can be considered blind dates too.”
“You’re such an excellent man. Why would you need to go on a blind date?” Lianne asked and realized
it might have been that he was so amazing that he would go on a blind date.
Affluent families like his were all about marriage alliances so they could be more powerful. As the
saying goes, it was better to keep the goodies within the family.
“Mr. Atlas, you don’t have to be sad. My grandma once told me that divorced couples just aren’t fated
to be together because of unresolved grudges in their past lives. If you’re destined to be together, you’ll
be married to her again in the next life.”
“Is that so?” Zane smoked a cigarette and slowly exhaled the smoke. He called her name in a deep
voice, “Lianne, remember what I told you.”
Lianne asked, “What did you tell me?”
Zane put out the cigarette butt and met her eyes. “Whether it’s in life or work, don’t forget that you are
my assistant. I won’t allow my people to be bullied by others. You don’t have to be afraid of Cece
Graham or her family.”
In an instant, Lianne felt like something hammered her heart lightly. It was a strange feeling that she
could not describe.
It was a little sour and sweet.
“From now on, as long as you are still working for me, Atlas Group will always protect you,” Zane said,
his voice as deep and powerful as ever. “Do you remember now?”
“Yes, and I won’t forget it. Thank you, Mr. Atlas!” Lianne remembered these words by heart.
No wonder Zane was so fierce at noon, saying she had not remembered what he said. It turned out Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
that Zane had heard what Cece said.
Zane suddenly stretched out his hand, wanting to rub the bun on top of her head. However, he abruptly
withdrew his hand due to his status as her boss.
He bottled up the emotions that even he did not understand. “It’s late. You should head back and get
some rest.”
