Marrying my high school bully

An accidental meeting

Melissa

By the time I finished discussing with him, I was drained and furious. Leonardo had no idea of how to run a business well. All he knew how to do was spend money on frivolities, including the numerous women he partied with every weekend.

I kept track of his lifestyle and from what I’d seen it was very appalling. I could say without a single doubt that every dime he spent was from the company’s purse.

That was the money made from the jewelry sold and it was to be used to run the company. Apparently, he was busy running his life as he pleased.

Having confirmed my suspicions, I stopped by his secretary’s office to pass a brief information to her. She was one of my numerous informants I employed to watch Leonardo and since I was already at the office, I just felt that it would be more efficient to tell her what I wanted in person rather than sending a text.

Before I returned to California, I called his previous secretary and paid her to quit her job. The tip off was huge so she agreed willingly which made it easier for me to bring someone else.

“How did the meeting go?” She asked politely, her eyes darting at Leonard’s door because we couldn’t have him watching us.

“It went well. We’ll have a meeting this evening at our usual spot so get there before five, please.” I informed her and walked away. I didn’t need to tell her about the location since we had a fixed meeting place.

The feeling of being at home once again was comforting as I could easily toss off Dexter’s jacket and have a relaxing shower.

Wrapped in my bathrobe, I heard a knock on my door and paused picking up a dress for my meeting with Erica later in the evening. I wasn’t expecting anyone since I didn’t really have friends.

Could it be my neighbor? I thought.

I quickly strolled to the door and hissed when I took a peek of the visitor and realised it was one of those unimportant people that I made the mistake of showing my apartment to.

My fingers tightened on the door knob as I wriggled out every ounce of self control within me and opened the door.

“Hi, sweetness.” He smirked, stretching his arms for a hug while I rolled my eyes and folded my arms.

I shut the door, but I was careful not to lead him into the living room. We were better off standing by the door. “What do you want, Riel? Why are you here?” I asked sternly, ensuring that he didn’t miss the irritated edge of my voice.

He popped his gum carefreely and shrugged. “I missed you so I decided to come over and see you. You know, have some amazing time while I make you feel really good.” He wiggled his brows, a dirty smile playing on his lips.

I stared at him blankly, wondering why I actually slept with this kind of man. We met at a club a few days ago and I was yearning for some release.

He was down for it and I just wanted to satiate my urge so we had it in my condo, and the next morning I sent him out and told him never to come back. I never slept with a man twice.

Or maybe I did, but he wasn’t just the man I wanted it with.

“Sorry to burst your bubbles, Riel, but I don’t miss you at all. As you can see, I’m getting ready to leave and I don’t need any disruption from my preparation.”

He pushed forward into the living room, but I kept my feet rooted firmly to the ground and glared hard at him which restricted him from taking any other step into the room.

His face revealed his displeasure, but I didn’t care. And at this point I’d decided never to bring any man to my house again, especially these horny buddies.

“It will be easy, you know…”

I lurched at him furiously and pushed him through the door. “Forget my address alright? If you ever come back here again, I swear I’ll get you arrested.” I yelled and slammed the door.

My eyes strode to the clock and I let out a yelp. It was past five already.

The meeting!

Since I’d already figured out what to wear, I didn’t spend much time dressing up. Ten minutes later, I was dolled up in a black jumpsuit which had a cross back strap, then a pair of stilettos.

My light auburn hair was trimmed down to a bob, giving me a more serious look that I liked. My phone beeped and I didn’t need to check to know who it was.

“I’m coming,” I muttered under my breath and scurried out from my condo.

In a rush I inserted the key in and the car roared to life, then I drove off. A wave of relief washed through me as I stopped at the Golden bar.

Erica had me rushing over because even though she worked for me as an undercover secretary, she firmly stated that she was going to remain a freelancer. It was either I agreed or looked for someone else, and knowing how good she was at her job, I had no choice but to agree.

The bar wasn’t as crowded as it usually was so I didn’t have to start searching for empty tables. Unfortunately, she wasn’t sitting at any of the empty tables I saw, which was unlike her.

I reached for my phone, my fingers grazing the metallic frame, then I saw the message and sighed. She’d texted that she wouldn’t be able to make it because of an emergency.

My hopes were dashed but I couldn’t return back home immediately, so I plopped down on a chair and waited for the waiter to come over.

I’d probably have some drinks then go back home to loneliness. The reminder caused me to shudder, but there was nothing I could do than to get wasted.

Engrossed in my thoughts, I didn’t know when another person joined me. The familiar musky scent wafted into my nose and I darted my gaze to my side, my eyes squinting in surprise.

“Dexter? What are you doing here?” I scolded myself inwardly for speaking to him so informally.NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

He furrowed his brows, his eyes scanning my smitten face quietly. “You just used the first name basis with me. I think it’s a good thing.” He chuckled, then strode to the seat opposite me and held it by the edge, causing my innards to become jittery.

Gosh! He wanted to sit with me.

God help me to stay composed because this was the last thing I expected.

Then his deep soothing voice caught through my dilemma. “Can I join you?”

“Huh?” My heart began thudding faster against my chest. “You want to sit here?” My voice was shaky and going by the wicked smile on his lips, I knew he was having so much fun toying with me.

“Yes, I want to or do you think it’s a bad idea?”

My fingers reached for the crook of my neck as I weighed my options. If I turned his request down, I’ll sound too uptight and give him the impression that he had an effect on me which wasn’t a lie. And if I requested, I’d be going back on my decision of getting close to him.

But with those brown eyes fixed on me with a lazy stare, challenging me to pick the right option, I went with the latter.

“You can sit with me. I don’t think it’s going to be a bad idea provided you keep your annoying side to yourself.” I said nonchalantly and he laughed.

His laughter was genuine and free. I wasn’t sure I was ready for the kind of feelings his laughter ignited, but I managed to shrug it off.

“This is going to be a good evening.” He pushed the seat backwards and settled down.
