Marrying my high school bully

I know about him

Lorraine

I couldn’t understand why I reacted the way I did, but it was surprising to find Victoria and Bumpy making out in the ward.

Heck! How did he even know that she was there?

Maybe I reacted that way because I didn’t expect them to be back together that easily, but it still didn’t make any sense that I had to run off like that.

“Lorraine!” He shouted, his heavy steps resonating behind me, but I didn’t stop. “Wait up, please.”

I was already feeling embarrassed and the quirky stares that the nurses passed at me didn’t help matters.

A nightmare had aroused me from my sleep some minutes ago, and it was more painful that Dexter wasn’t beside me. I didn’t even notice him leaving. Feeling scared, I rushed out of the hotel room without checking how I looked, ignored Drake’s warning that I should stay in and rushed to the hospital.

That was my mistake because I should have stayed back and waited for Dexter.

I felt a grip on my arm, restricting me from taking any other step. “What do you want?” I lashed at him.Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

He dropped his hand, his expression puzzled. “I’ve been waiting for you and whatever you saw in there was a mistake. I didn’t kiss her.” He was breathing heavily.

I raked my fingers through my disheveled hair and gasped. I was acting like a jealous girlfriend when I already had a husband.

What the hell was wrong with me?

“Look, Bumpy, I’m so sorry for how I reacted. I shouldn’t have barged into you guys like that.” I apologised with my head inclined as I couldn’t even manage a glance at him.

He held my hands and together we strolled outside the hospital. It was past 12pm which explained the quietness that I kinda enjoyed.

“I was almost kidnapped yesterday, Bumpy. It was a difficult situation for me and I don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t fight my kidnapper.”

He flinched in shock. “I’m so sorry you went through all of that. I pray he gets caught.” He said, snaking his hand around my shoulder.

Dexter wouldn’t be happy if he saw the both of us like this, but he was nowhere to be found. Then a thought occurred to me. If Bumpy had been here for a while then he’d have probably seen him around.

“Have you seen my husband?” I asked hopefully.

He looked down on me due to our differences in heights. “Yes. A few hours ago we met here and he wasn’t looking so happy. I don’t know much about what he was about to do husband, but it felt like he had unfinished business.”

My heart skipped a beat as I listened to him speak. Dexter and I obviously had a lot of things to talk about, but somehow I felt like I didn’t even have the right to have a conversation with him.

Our sex life was explosive. We had a strong connection and I loved him, but how was I sure that he loved me too? He always told me that I was his and no one would get me, but there were two meanings to it.

“Are you alright?” He asked.

I nodded. “Let’s take a walk. You said you had something to tell me.”

He scratched his hair and hesitated. “Ummm… About that, can we forget it? I won’t be leaving any time soon.” He announced and my eyes popped.

“Are you for real?” I was excited and I didn’t even bother hiding it.

“Yup. I realised that I could work remotely but that would include short visits to my company. Victoria needs me-us. We have to be there for her.” He said with conviction and I felt a bit disappointed.

He told me yesterday that he had overstayed because of me and he had to leave, now he changed his mind because of Victoria. Something wasn’t just adding up.

“You’re right. She needs us now more than ever, and I still find it hard to understand why the people who love with all their hearts meet the wrong people.” I muttered.

“Are you referring to yourself?” He quickly got my message.

I wasn’t sure that I wanted to discuss my marital struggles with anyone so I shrugged.

Silence ensued as I stared at the aesthetic ambience of the hospital. Tall trees bordered towards the gate and little flower pots were meshed between them. I’d never seen something like that before but it was beautiful.

“What about your parents?” He suddenly asked.

“They are dead.” I responded without any emotion.

He glanced at me. “Oh, I’m so sorry about that. How did you manage to survive all these years?”

“The only way I knew how to. It wasn’t easy because there were several people who weren’t happy with my existence, especially my stepfather, but I forged ahead.”

He arched his brows, a funny expression he made each time he didn’t understand me. “Your stepfather?”

“Yeah. He was always keen on hurting me and I had to run away when I couldn’t take it anymore. He promised to kill me any day he found me but surprisingly he hasn’t.”

I honestly wished I could see him so that I’d plunge a knife in his chest for all the pain he caused me. After the last call at the agency, I hadn’t heard from him which was surprising.

“Your stepfather needs to be put in jail.”

Putting him in jail would make things easy for him. He deserved to die a slow and painful death for making me lose my child.

Bumpy and I kept talking until we ran out of topics. The tension between us had disappeared which I was grateful for as I didn’t want to fight with the one good friend I had.

I looked back over my shoulder as I heard sounds of footsteps approaching. Dexter advanced towards us, his expression disapproving and his eyes dark and cold.

Typical of him.

I headed towards him. “Where have you been? I woke up and I couldn’t find you.”

“Something really important came up and I found out who the kidnapper is.” He informed me and my body trembled in fear.
