Marrying my high school bully

Marry me, Lorraine

Chapter 56

Lorraine

My eyes were filled with tears but I willed them not to spill. Not in front of these people who enjoyed my humiliation and even added to it.

I was chill; too stunned to speak or yell at them to stop playing the video. I couldn’t even imagine who would have taken a video of me and Victoria in our most vulnerable states.

Dexter stormed forward as the guests cleared the way for him. I didn’t bother to call him back as I anticipated his next line of action.

He collected the microphone from the host of the party and cleared his throat. His steel gaze trained on everyone of us. With my eyes fixed on him, I could see how hard it was for him to control this temper.

“Good evening, everyone.” He began with a cold tone. “I was invited to this party by a friend and honestly, my wife and I have been enjoying it until now.”

My heart melted as he publicly called me his wife and that statement emboldened me as I ignored the snide remarks that were thrown at me.

“Someone out there is against my happiness and I promise to fish out whoever made this video, and make him or her suffer the consequences of the law-” His speech was cut short by the round of applause that went on.

I almost choked on my laughter.

Weren’t these the same people who mocked me a few minutes ago?

“I’m not done talking.” He reminded them and the hall became quiet once again. “Can Lorraine Hills come to the platform? I need to show the whole world how beautiful my wife is.”

Now I couldn’t hold back my tears. All my anger I’d been harboring had been for nothing, and I was unable to see through his actions that he actually cared.

I sniffed, wiping my tears gently to avoid ruining my make up. Then I raised my chin, determined to make them stare at me in awe.

Remembering what Stella had taught me about confidence, I decided that it was time to give the person who tried to humiliate Victoria and I a show. I knew that I was already trending on the internet, but I was going to use it to my advantage.

I took the first step, then the next. Each stride was filled with undaunting confidence, revealing the subtlety of my power as a woman. The guests cleared the narrow path for me as I walked with a proud gait.

Dexter did the icing of the cake as he pulled me close to himself and kissed me.

A louder applause ensued as he deepened the kiss, pressing me to his body. The kiss wasn’t just for show; I sensed how much he wanted to say but was unable to because of the rift between us.

We broke away from each other simultaneously, my cheeks as hot as coals of glowing fire. “I’m so sorry for how I’ve been treating you recently. I know my attitude is confusing but I promise to explain everything once we get home, wifey.” He whispered against my ears as I placed a light kiss on his lips again.

Now everyone who had eyes on him would back off.

“I’m always ready to listen to you.” I grinned.

He nodded and turned to the guests. “I know you’re all itching for an explanation but I won’t give it. On this note, I’d like to formally introduce Lorraine as my wife. We have reasons for keeping our relationship away from public eyes, but I guess I should have allowed the whole world to know that I’m with an amazing woman.” He flashed a smile at me, then continued. “I’d like to have my first official dance with her, if she permits me.”

“Don’t be silly, Dex. Of course I want to dance with you.” I scolded him mildly.

He returned the microphone to the host then we linked our hands together for our first dance. I didn’t even realise it was our first dance until he said it.

We’d never acted like a couple because I was keen on hiding our identity, but not anymore. I would flaunt my title as his wife to the people who cared to know.

Dexter gave a pleading look to the celebrant as we took over the dance floor. Soft music played in the background, captivating me with its melody. Dexter curled his arm around my waist, my hands on his shoulder as we lost ourselves in the dance.

“Has anyone told you how beautiful you are today?” He smirked.

I arched my brow, biting my lips to stop myself from blushing sheepishly. “You did before we left the house, but it sounded like you didn’t mean it.”

“Well, I’d like to tell you now that you are the most beautiful woman in the world.” He complimented me, his lips stretching into a wide grin.

I rolled my eyes even though I was giddy with excitement at his sweet words. “Are you sure about that? Because I seem to have a rival.”

He squinted his eyes in confusion but I didn’t bother explaining as I wanted him to figure it out by himself. “Are you referring to Edith?”

“Who else?” I shrugged.

He placed a peck on the tip of my nose and chuckled. “She used to be one of my friends with benefits, but I ended things with her as soon as you became my pretend wife. Don’t be worried about her, she’s not even my type.”

I nodded absentmindedly. “But you made her your fuck buddy.” I blurted.

Dexter sighed in exhaustion and we stopped dancing. “Yes, she was available and I used her to cool off, but she got a lot of things from me too; money, fame and other things I can’t mention.” He paused and allowed his explanation to sink in. “I didn’t ask you to marry me just because of the debt, I wanted you back because I’d spent too many years away from you to let you go again.”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

I saw sincerity in his eyes as he spoke passionately, and deep down I knew he wouldn’t toil with me again.

“One last question. Do you still want me to be your pretend wife?” I asked, my heart thumping hard against my chest.

“No, baby. I know that the contract says we are legally married, but I want to have a home with you, filled with lots of children that looks like you.”

My heart stopped. “Are you proposing?” I gasped.

“Yeah… I know that I don’t have a ring here, but my words are a seal to my promise. You are all I want and I love you so much. You deserve the best of weddings and I’m more than capable of giving it to you.”

“Cocky much?” I teased him.

He went down on one of his knees, the other one propped up and immediately the hall went agog with joyful shouts. “Marry me, Lorraine Hills.” He asked softly, his eyes pleading.
