Chapter 7
Cynthia put the remote control down, appearing indifferent. ” Fine, I don’t want it.”
Joshua was confused.
“When you’re desperate to give Jayleen a legitimate status, you’ll offer me a higher price to leave,” Cynthia said in a dead serious manner.
Joshua’s demeanor turned icy. No one had ever threatened him like this before; Cynthia was the first. “Do you really think I can’t do anything to you?”
“Of course not,” Cynthia replied, switching to another reality show. She continued earnestly, “You can freeze the cards you gave me, limit my spending and freedom, lock me away in a remote place, and even…”
As her suggestions grew increasingly outrageous, Joshua’s anger strangely dissipated. He suddenly found himself wanting to know.
How was it possible for someone, who could now infuriate him with just a casual remark, to have been gentle for two whole years?
“But this way, Jayleen can only remain a hidden lover. You probably don’t want her to be the subject of gossip,” Cynthia said. Her emotions were now under control.
Even Joshua, the legend of the business world, would be subject to ridicule and mockery if his affair and keeping a mistress were exposed.
“Anyone who chooses their crush must have something wrong with their brain.”
“What about you, Mr. Lindley?”
“I’m not a scumbag, Life is a constant process of moving forward. Those who choose their crush probably can’t tell if it’s their past regrets, obsessions, or genuine affection,”
Yiordan replied. His voice was warm and soothing, exuding a radiant aura.
“How profound.”
“Speaking of which, I’m reminded of a childhood friend who dumped his current partner for his first love. A total scumbag.”
“There’s a saying online, ‘When the ex sheds a tear, the current partner has already lost.“”
“Ha ha ha ha…”
As the show continued, Joshua’s eyes grew more intense. His gaze heavy with pressure as it fell on Cynthia, who appeared nonchalant.
He seriously suspected that she was subtly mocking him.
“Cynthia.”
“Hmm?”
“I can agree to your terms.” Joshua conceded for the sake of their divorce, discussing the conditions with her. “But before cutting off contact, I need to investigate her car accident.”
“That’s fine.” Cynthia agreed without pressing him further, If you need to communicate with Jayleen during this time, have Mr. Cheyne do it.”
Joshua wanted to refuse, but considering his parents‘ and grandparents‘ fondness for Cynthia, he agreed. “Alright.”
Cynthia said, equally eager to divorce and extremely unwilling to be around him, “You go take care of your work. Pick me up. at six.”
“Okay.”
Having finished their conversation, Cynthia turned off the television and walked upstairs, wearing her slippers. The distance between the two of them seemed to grow, and their once–close hearts began to drift apart. As Cynthia closed her bedroom door, Joshua felt a strange sensation in his heart, as if he was about to lose something.
Furrowing his brows, he adjusted his tie with his slender, pale fingers, which were so beautiful that they seemed like a gift from god. Glancing at the closed door once more, he left the villa and headed to the company. He still had to investigate Jayleen’s car accident.
Cynthia took a shower and then took a nap. She was awakened by the ringing of her phone. Seeing that it was Little Jerry calling, she rubbed her slightly foggy head and answered the call, “Hello?”
“Cynthia! Cynthia! Cynthia!” Jimmy excitedly repeated her name three times, his voice filled with youthful enthusiasm.
Cynthia moved the phone away from her ear and only spoke when she could no longer hear his voice. “What’s up?”
“Mitchell is here.”
“Who?”
5/6
“Mitchell Cyrus.”
“What’s he here for?” Cynthia was puzzled.
“He said he’s here on behalf of Chairman Yates to handle your divorce from Joshua. Did you and Joshua really secretly get married?” Jimmy hesitated, but his curiosity could not be
contained.
Cynthia pinched her tired brow.
Jimmy continued to pry. “Cynthia?” This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
“When will he arrive?” Cynthia asked, somewhat helplessly.
“Around 11 p.m. tonight. He’s just leaving for the airport now.
11
Jimmy’s curiosity was burning, but he did not dare to keep asking.
Cynthia thought about how to stop this. “Got it.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone.
When they got married, Joshua did not ask about her
background. When the holidays came around, and he asked if she wanted to go back, she said she did not, and he did not ask any further. If Mitchell came, it would undoubtedly catch Joshua’s attention.
Jimmy stared at the disconnected call, his forehead filled with question marks.
He had not even gotten an answer to his question yet.
He quickly opened his WhatsApp chats. With his fingers flying across the keyboard, he began a barrage of messages.
[Little Jerry: You haven’t told me if you really got married.]
Chapter 7
[Little Jerry: Why did Uncle Yates say you’re getting a divorce?]
[Little Jerry: What happened in these two years?]
[Little Jerry: Cynthia, where are you?]
Cynthia looked at the incoming messages and, after careful consideration, replied, [Yes, we did. Our relationship fell apart.
]
Little Jerry could not believe it and replied, [!!!!!]
Not even a series of exclamation marks could express half of his excitement.
Cynthia, his idol, had gotten married!
It was true!
[Little Jerry: Are you lying to me?]
Cynthia ignored the question and added, [For now, don’t spread the news. Don’t let the others find out apart from you and Mitchell.]
The cold sweat on Jimmy’s forehead slowly accumulated as he looked at the others around him. How was he going to tell Cynthia? The others were already gathered around his computer, and they knew what was going on.
