Bailey's pov
I was smart enough to not be so close to her as she made her way to the bathroom. I didn't want her to see that I followed her in here, fearing she may make a beeline for somewhere else.
I waited for five minutes before entering the bathroom.
I can hear her shifting around in the cubicle and I closed the door behind me lightly, leaning my back against it so she won't have anywhere to leave. We needed to talk and if this was the lengths I had to take to get my best friend back, I'd do it.
As I try to wait for her to be done, I took this as moment to gather my thoughts and think of a way to speak to her. My eyes locked on the cold tiles, raking my brain for ways to get through to Mira.
This can be the best chance and how many chances can I get after this? It had to be done now. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
The sound of the flushing and gurgling of water pulled me out of my thoughts and made my heart race. I waited, not patient at all as I scratch my arms in anticipation. I am uncertain of where this will go, but I know that today I will make her hear me.
When the door creaked open, I straighten and the determination almost withered away when our eyes met. She isn't startled at all to see me standing here waiting for her.
Ignoring me she walks up to the sink and opens the pipe.
" Mirabella."
She stiffens but doesn't respond.
I let out a breath. " You know I won't let this friendship go. You're my best friend Mira."
She closed the pipe, but her eyes remain on her reflection and her hand is still clutching the poor faucet in a tight grip. " Was I your best friend when you slept with my brother, got into a relationship with him behind my back and didn't tell me about it until I found out on my own?"
She turns to me, her eyes hard.
" Mira-
" I get it. You were scared to tell me about it. I get that part. But do you know how fucking betrayed I felt knowing you constantly lied to me? Especially that same day I caught you two." She shook her head in disappointment. " I saw you, I ask you and you still decided to lie to me. You know why I didn't call that night to remind you of the sleepover at your place?"
I stayed silent, knowing that answering her now wouldn't be fruitful for me.
" I knew something was going on. I saw the way he looked at you then and I am so stupid to not have realized sooner. But that day sealed it and it showed me how you can lie to my face. You stared at me Bailey and you lied. And I had to find out on my own. Your 'best friend' had to find out that you were sleeping with her brother on her own." Her voice chokes.
" Makes me wonder how I can trust someone who looked at me directly while lying to me. What kind of best friend who promised to never lie to each other, lies whilst staring directly in the eyes?"
I flinched, my stomach sinking.
She shakes her head. " I still stick to what i said, my brother isn't capable of loving a girl for long. I'm going to feel sorry for you when-
" Don't be." I cut in, my voice cracking. " Don't be sorry for me." I pushed off the door, completely forgetting that I didn't want her to get out.
" This jealousy you have against Kaleb Mira, needs to stop now." I whispered. Mira hadn't expected my words and stumbled back, her eyes going wide and her cheeks blushing with pink.
Then she school her features, hardening them into irritation and anger. " Jealous? Of who? My brother?" She pointed a finger at her chest, her eyes ablaze with disbelief. " Me? Mira? Jealous of Kaleb?" She faked a snort and giggle. " Why would I ever be jealous of my brother? Out of everyone, why would I ever be jealous of Kaleb?"
My brows lowered as I thought. " I get it now." I whispered, more to myself really but it caught her attention. " I get why you're so pissed about this now."
Her face pinches. " What do you get Bailey?" She gritted out, irritation towards me and my words clear in her tone.
I nod, more to myself as I studied her with a tilt of my head. " You've always been jealous of him haven't you? You've been jealous because he was the more outgoing twin, the most popular, had the better grades, you felt as though he was always better. He always won."
Her eyes widen and her lips part but she said nothing so I took it as invitation to say more. " You felt like he had everything Mira. He had everything except two things....or should I say two people?"
Her lips lined into a frown but she still does not utter a word. I continued. "There were two people he never had by his side that you had. Me and Katrina. And now that me and Kaleb gave into our feelings, you feel like you've lost against him. You feel as though he took me from you. One of those things you had all to yourself that you didn't share with him. And now you feel like it's gone."
The quietness was deafening for a long pregnant pause. Until Mira schooled her features and hid away her emotions. " Now you're just saying anything Bailey. I've never been jealous of Kaleb."
I shook my head. " It's okay to think that way Mira. But you're wrong, Kaleb didn't take me from you. I'm still here."
Mira's face screwed up and she snapped. " I don't care if he takes you, have fun with him while it still last!" She stormed forward, brushing passed me but I stop her.
" Tomorrow is my birthday." I said softly, turning around to see her hands were clenching the door handle tightly. I looked at her sadly even though she had her back towards me. " I won't try again after that day. That will be it. No more trying to talk to you. No more Mirabella. I can't be friends with a hypocrite."
