Chapter 433 It's You
Chapter 433 It's You
Before Julie could finish her words, Rachel interrupted her. She knew that Julie wanted to say something. But considering her relationship with Jack now, she didn't want to say anything that she might regret in the future.
So, to end their conversation, she smiled and said, "Julie, I'm a little tired. I want to rest."
"Okay, Miss Shen. You take a rest now."
Julie had to swallow her words and leave Rachel's bedroom with the garbage.
In the dark night, a car was speeding up the road. In less than an hour, Jack reached the neighborhood where he let Scarlett live.
Scarlett was about to go to bed when she heard the doorbell rang. She hurriedly opened the door in excitement. Seeing Jack standing outside, she asked, "Jack, why are you here?"
"Are you not happy that I'm here?" With an evil grin, Jack lifted her chin and stared at her eyes. In an instant, the previously cold room suddenly became somewhat ambiguous.
Scarlett smiled shyly and replied, "Of course, I am happy."
Ever since she knew Jack, she had tried every means just to be with him. She had longed to sleep with him, but until now, he had never touched her at all.
But now, she thought that the moment had finally come, so, she proactively pulled Jack inside and unbuttoned his shirt one by one. With a coquettish smile, she asked, "Jack, you are staying here tonight, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am."
Jack bent down and picked her up. Scarlett screamed, but she couldn't help giggling with joy.
However, her happiness was not supposed to last long. As soon as Jack put her down on the bed, he put his shirt back on. Scarlett pulled her half-torn clothes, sat up, and asked in disbelief, "Jack, what wrong?"
Jack didn't answer. After putting his shirt on, he just turned around and left quietly. When he saw Scarlett's face that resembled Rachel just now, he badly wanted to take her. But his heart couldn't be fooled. His heart knew that she was not Rachel.
He couldn't take any other women to bed except Rachel.
Looking at the empty room again, Scarlett felt so furious. She threw all the things on the dresser to the floor and screamed, "Rachel, this is all your fault. If not because of you, Jack will never hesitate to touch me." She squatted on the floor and burst into tears. She thought that she could finally be with Jack tonight. However, it once again ended in vain.
When she saw the remorse in his eyes before he left, she wished she could go straight to Rachel and question her. She couldn't understand why Jack was still so persistent in taking Rachel back despite the way she was treating him.
In the next few days, Jack didn't come home. But since he was always in the news, Rachel was somehow updated about him.
Jack and Scarlett went shopping almost every day and bought everything she wanted. He also took her to various high-end clubs every night. And the biggest news was, he bought her favorite dessert shop. He renamed the shop "Scarlett's Bakery" and gave it to her as a gift.
Almost every woman in the city couldn't help but feel envious. Scarlett was so lucky to meet such a rich and handsome boyfriend. But some women also couldn't help sympathizing with Rachel.
In the hospital, her colleagues, who naturally loved gossip, had been considerate of her feelings. No matter how curious they were, they never dared to ask her face to face. Although they couldn't help talking about it a little in private, they made sure that she would not overhear them.
James had once come to see Rachel, but that time, she was sent to a meeting by her director, so he just called her.
Rachel already knew why he called, so she said with a smile, "Don't worry about me. I know how exaggerated the reporters are once they get a piece of information."
Upon hearing her words, James had no choice but to keep whatever he wanted to say to himself. He just told her to take good care of herself and call him if anything happened.
Rachel thought that Jack had no plans of showing up in front of her again. But when she got home from work today, she saw him sitting on the sofa. As usual, his clothes were wrinkled, and he was reeking of alcohol.
Seeing him looking so miserable, she didn't know what to think. She just glanced at him indifferently and went upstairs as if she didn't see him.
But Jack's voice stopped her. "Get me a glass of water."
At first, she wanted to ignore him. But when she saw that his lips were too dry, she couldn't afford to take him for granted. She turned to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and went back to the living room. When she handed him the water, he opened his eyes and sneered, "It's you?"
Rachel didn't know whether to laugh or get annoyed. Who did he think she was? But when she remembered Scarlett, anger welled up in her heart. She said coldly, "I think you've come to the wrong place."
She then turned around and was about to leave, but Jack spoke again. "Rachel, you still care about me, don't you?"
Rachel froze, her body stiffened. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
He was right. She cared about him all the time. When she was about to admit it to him, his phone suddenly rang. Thinking that it was Scarlett was like a bucket of ice-cold water that poured on her and extinguished her desire to finally be honest with him.
She lowered her eyes and sneered, "Why should I care about you?"
Now, Rachel found it difficult to fall asleep. When she went back downstairs for dinner earlier, Jack was no longer on the sofa. She didn't know when he had left.
Julie also knew what happened. In the past, she always tried to convince Rachel to make things clear with Jack. But now, she didn't say anything anymore.
Rachel recalled what Jack said earlier, and she still felt a little pain in her heart.
It took her a long time to fall asleep. But even in her dream, Jack and Scarlett were still there. The two seemed to be so in love with each other. She was closely following them like a diehard fan, specifically watching Jack's every move and every word said to Scarlett. She wanted to separate them, but when she tried to touch them, her hands could only pass through their bodies.
When she woke up, she discovered that her face was already full of tears. Wiping her face, she recalled the scene in her dream, and it brought a pang in her heart again.
The next morning, she got up and prepared for work. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw the dark circles under her eyes. She picked up a concealer to cover them up when her phone suddenly rang.
As soon as she answered, Gary's voice came in excitedly. "Aunt Rachel, don't forget to watch my performance this afternoon."
"Of course, I won't."
Smiling awkwardly, Rachel felt a little guilty. Actually, she had totally forgotten about Gary's invitation if he hadn't called to remind her.
Gary asked, "Are you sure you have time to come here?"
"Yes," Rachel confirmed.
"I'll wait for you at the school gate then."
After hanging up, she picked up her bag and went downstairs. The moment she opened the door, a car stopped in front of her. Lea hurriedly got out of the car and asked, "Rachel, why didn't you tell me that such a big thing happened?"
Rachel didn't want to answer Lea's question, so with a slight smile, she asked, "Didn't you go abroad with Henry and Rita for a vacation?"
Henry had filed a vacation leave at work a few days ago and took Lea and Rita abroad for a vacation. Rachel had somehow enjoyed a moment of peace during those times.
They were supposed to come back after half a month, so she didn't expect that Lea would show up in front of her this soon.
Lea noticed that Rachel was trying to avoid her question, so she got annoyed. "Rachel, don't you dare change the topic!"
Rachel curled her lip and said, "Nothing serious happened recently."
"Seriously?" Lea asked in disbelief. "Are you going to wait for Scarlett to get pregnant with Jack's baby and show it in front of you? What does Jack trying to do? Didn't everything go well between the two of you a few days ago? Why did Scarlett suddenly appear?"
Since Lea became a mother, she had become more and more eloquent. And now, she was filled with righteous indignation against Jack and Scarlett's affairs. It seemed that she would never stop nagging. Knowing that Lea was upset because she only cared for her, Rachel didn't interrupt. Instead, she listened quietly with a smile.
When Lea finally stopped talking, Rachel said, "Are you thirsty? I'll get you a glass of water."
"I'm not thirsty." Lea was still a little anxious. "Rachel, don't tell me that you are not doing anything about this matter. I don't believe that you have already given up on Jack completely."
Rachel sighed slightly and said, "Things have happened. What else can I do?"
"If you don't want to let go of Jack, you should make it clear to him." Lea took out her phone. "Call him and make everything clear."
"No, I won't,"
Rachel said and held Lea's hand. "Lea, you know me. I won't humble myself just to keep Jack by my side. I don't want him to come back to me out of pity. I'd rather end our relationship completely than do that."
Her voice was so calm and indifferent as if she didn't feel anything about the situation.
But for Lea, Rachel's every word was like a heavy stone that crushed her heart, making her difficult to breathe.
She couldn't hide the pity and sadness in her eyes. Being with Rachel for so many years, she should have known what kind of person Rachel was. The more she thought about it, the more distressed she felt.
Rachel looked at her and smiled. "Don't look at me like that. You only make me feel pitiful."
