Chapter 436 Reached A Business Agreement
Chapter 436 Reached A Business Agreement
A slight smile played at the corners of Kailey's mouth. "Scarlett, you know that I don't have a job right now and just stay at home every day. Recently, I have been discussing with my friends a plan to open a shop, with each of us paying equal portions of money for the capital. The thing is, you know I spend all of my salary each month, and I never got to save anything. Can you lend me some money?"
Scarlett's hesitation was evident, so Kailey raised a hand and swore, "I swear, I will definitely pay you back as soon as I make money."
"But..." Scarlett was still a little unconvinced. After all, that money wasn't hers to begin with. If she lent it to someone else, what should she do if Jack found out? Would she be the one in trouble?
Before she could give an answer, Kailey pressed on. "Scarlett, all of my friends now know that you are rich. If I can't even borrow such a small amount from you...well, it doesn't even matter if I lose face in front of them. My main concern is that it may reflect badly on you."
She certainly hit the nail right on the head and tapped Scarlett's weakness. There was nothing more she hated than to be looked down upon by others, so she agreed without even asking how much. "I'll transfer the money to you tomorrow."
Kailey smiled complacently. The doorbell rang at that moment, and she jumped to her feet to open the door. When she saw Jack standing outside with a suitcase, she stepped back, picked up her backpack from the sofa, and said, "I'm leaving. I won't disturb you."
Scarlett was surprised. She never expected that Jack would come here voluntarily with a suitcase in his hand. 'Did he come here so he could live with me?'
Overjoyed, she hurried forward to meet him, but before she could reach his side, she heard him say in a cold voice, "Clean up the other room. I'll stay there."
Scarlett's smile disappeared. "You won't be sleeping in the master bedroom? I..."
Jack cast aside his suitcase and stepped forward. With his eyes looking down at her dispassionately, he pinched her chin and said coldly, "Scarlett, I'm giving you everything under one condition: don't be delusional. If you can't do it, then get out."
'Delusional...'
Scarlett stood frozen for a while, and then a bitter, self-deprecating chuckle escaped her lips. In one fell swoop, all of her dreams vanished in midair.
However, she would not give up so easily. To keep living in such luxury for the rest of her life, she must turn this pretense into a real relationship or even marry Jack.
After cleaning up, Rachel looked up a phone number from a notebook and dialed it. She was surprised to hear her name as soon as the other person picked up. She smiled and said, "I'm sorry for calling you so late."
The other end was noisy at first, but it quieted down soon after.
Jared Chen's voice came from the other end of the line. "Dr. Shen, what are you talking about? Late? Don't you know that our night life has just begun?"
"I'll make it short so as not to disturb your night life, then," she quipped back in a joking manner. Then, Rachel told him what happened to Jimmy and said, "If your company didn't have such a precedent before, then I understand. I was just inquiring, after all."
She did not expect Jared Chen's response: "As long as it's a business, we will accept it no matter how big or small. How can we push clients out?"
Hearing his bright smile through the call, Rachel also smiled and said, "Thanks, that's good."
Then, Jared Chen asked her to tell Jimmy that everything would be arranged for him as long as he contacted a certain person on the following day. The smoothness of this exchange exceeded Rachel's expectations. She was feeling a little sad because of Jack, but now she actually felt lucky and happy.
Perhaps it was because of this good news, or maybe because of her lack of sleep the night before, Rachel suddenly felt exhausted. That night, as soon as her head touched the pillow, she fell into a deep slumber uninterrupted by dreams.
The next day, she received a call from Jimmy as soon as she came back from lunch at the canteen with her colleagues. His voice was excited, which was a marked departure from his tone yesterday. "Rachel, I really want to thank you. I have contacted that person and we have reached an agreement."
"That's good." Rachel didn't expect things to go so smoothly.
Jimmy laughed for a while and then eventually calmed down. "Rachel, your friend is so kind. He even gave us the factory price. Can you believe it? In this way, the production cost for our goods would be reduced by nearly half, and the profit will be considerable."
"Really?" Rachel was surprised and a little embarrassed. She didn't expect Jared Chen to do such a big favor for her.
Jimmy seemed to be too excited just now. He coughed several times on the other end and finally stopped. He quickly said, "Rachel, I was only in contact with your friend's secretary. Can you help me contact your friend? I'd like to treat him to dinner one of these days. Let's have dinner together, and I can also thank him face to face."
"Okay, I'll call him then."
After hanging up the phone, Rachel plucked a sheet of notepaper to write down a reminder for her to call Jared Chen later.
As soon as she picked up the pen, the door of the office was pushed open from the outside. The director of the administrative department stood at the door. Since that time when Rachel refused to help her sort out the documents, she had never given Rachel a second look.
At the moment, she looked at Rachel expressionlessly and said in a cold voice, "Rachel, this is the patient's name. Twenty years ago, he had cholecystectomy in our hospital. Find his medical records and any recordings of his gallstone operation. Go to the record room to look for these materials."
At present, electronic medical records were being used. That wasn't the case twenty years ago because computers weren't so advanced ten. Thus, everything was recorded on paper.
The record room had been closed for a long time, and almost no one had ventured in. Piles of documents containing old data had been gathering dust all this time. A colleague, who had an amicable working relationship with Rachel, overheard the conversation as she passed by. Considering that Rachel was pregnant, the colleague volunteered, "Director, I don't have anything else to do now. Can I help Rachel?"
"Are you free right now?"
The director turned around and shot her a cold glance. "Are you done with the file that I asked you to sort out last time? You have to give it to me before you get off work today."
"Didn't you say that I have to hand it in before next Friday?" The colleague was stunned. Next Friday was still nine days away.
She estimated that she could have the task done in a couple of days, so she hadn't started on anything yet.
The director snorted, "You have to hand it in whenever I ask you to. Don't talk nonsense. I am the director of this department!"
The director made it very clear that she wanted no one but Rachel to go to the record room to look for the materials. Rachel stood up and took the list from the director's hand, saying, "Director, I'll go look for these myself."
She passed by her colleague and flashed the other a grateful smile. She patted the other woman on the shoulder and murmured, "Go ahead with your work. If I can't finish it by myself, I'll ask you for help." Rachel found a mask to use and put it on before going into the room. However, dust flew all over the place every time she picked up a document, so she ended up coughing a few times before finally adapting to it. First, she found the corresponding data cabinet according to year and then narrowed her document search using the patient's surname.
All of the patients in that section had the same name, so she had to sift through each fold one by one. The patients in the room had the same surname. Maybe she had bad luck that day because she only saw the patient name in the last document.
She rubbed her sore back and smiled helplessly. Then, she headed to the director's office with the file in her hand and said, "Director, I've found it."
Director was typing on the keyboard when she entered, and she didn't even look up at her when she spoke. Finally, the director said, "It's no longer needed. Put it back."
"Okay."
Rachel shook her head helplessly. What the director was doing was obvious —she was deliberately making things difficult for her. However, she could not say anything based on just a guess.
As soon as she came out of the record room, Rachel rushed to the bathroom. She felt much better after washing her face with cold water. Thus, Rachel completely forgot Jimmy's request until much later, as she sat on the sofa after dinner and munched on some fruit that Julie cut up. When she received his phone call, Jimmy asked expectantly, "Rachel, what did your friend say? Did he say he would come?"
She lightly slapped a palm on her forehead and said sheepishly, "I'm so sorry. I was too busy this afternoon to remember it. I'll ask him tomorrow."
"Okay."
Jimmy was about to hang up the phone when Gary snatched it from his hand. The boy ran to the balcony outside and told Rachel what had happened in the school today, such as who hadn't done homework and was scolded by the teacher, or he got a crush on some girl, among other things.
When she ended the call, Rachel looked at the onscreen time in surprise. She had talked with Gary for half an hour. When Julie came out of the kitchen, she poured her a glass of water and said, "You have talked on the phone for such a long time. Are you thirsty?"
"Yes."
Now that Julie mentioned it, Rachel felt thirsty at the sight of the glass of water. She gratefully accepted the glass and drank the water up.
She burped and placed the glass on the table. Noticing how Julie was still hovering, she pursed her lips and asked, "Julie, do you have something to say?" Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
"Yes." Julie nodded. "Miss, yesterday Mr. Fu carried his suitcase out. Is he never coming back?"
Shaking her head, Rachel answered honestly, "I don't know. Let him be."
"But..."
