They said they were just waiting for Charles to give his approval.

At this point, Charles felt the situation had taken a surreal turn.

Charles said, "I'll ask Skylar."

He quickly made the call. Skylar picked up right away. "Hey, Charles?"

"Are you driving? I'll keep it short. My manager just told me you have agreed to attend a variety show. Now, the production team is reaching out to me," Charles asked directly, cutting to the chase.

Skylar immediately pulled over to the side of the road.

Just half an hour ago, she and Harvey had discussed Ruth joining a variety show, and now Charles was being contacted by the show's team. The producers were moving fast.

"It's not me, it's Ruth."

"What? I almost forgot about her. What's she up to now? Is she seriously using her status as my sister to join a variety show?"

Charles' frustration boiled over. His patience with Ruth had worn thin.

Skylar explained, "Harvey reached out to me earlier. We met up and ended up talking about Ruth. His classmate works on the production team. Ruth is working as a print model right now."

"Unbelievable! Alright, don't worry about it. Harvey and I will handle it. I can't stand her anymore," Charles said, clearly exasperated.

Skylar responded with a quick "Okay" before hanging up. She couldn't make sense of Ruth's behavior too.

Some people's logic and values were simply beyond comprehension unless you met someone on the same wavelength. Ruth was one of those people.

An indoor photo shoot had just wrapped up. Ruth was only wearing lingerie.

Although the shoot was over, the photographers lingered, crowding around her.

"Ms. Sullivan, how about joining us for a late-night snack?"

"Or maybe head to a bar and have some fun?"

Ruth had grown used to this by now.

At first, she'd struggled to accept posing so scantily in front of so many people. The way their eyes lingered on her through the camera lenses had been unbearable

But she had no other source of income. This job had been arranged by Jed Pascall, a photographer.

She hadn't wanted to take it, but Jed had intimate photos of them together and left her no choice.

Within days, she had become numb to it. She knew what the

photographers wanted. It wasn't just her youth and beauty or the fact that she was Charles' sister-they wanted to sleep with her for both reasons.

Jed didn't care. He'd even told her that if she found someone she liked, she could sleep with them as long as they paid.

But Ruth had her limits. She wouldn't agree to sleep with just anyone.

"I have to meet with the producer of a variety show tonight. I don't have time to join you all for dinner. Maybe another day." She skillfully deflected. The group dispersed reluctantly.

The photo shoots barely paid enough to cover a single bag or outfit.

"This show is off the table," the producer snapped. "And as for you... are you and Charles even legally related? You claim to be siblings, but there's no real proof, is there? Charles is pissed. You've caused us enough trouble already!" The résentment in his voice was unmistakable.
