Chapter 0462
Chapter 0462
Coming out of the doctor's office, Candice's mind was blank. She barely managed to steady herself against the wall to prevent herself from falling.
The words "malformed" kept echoing in her mind.
The fear and confusion welling up from within made her unsure of how to react.
"Don't rush to conclusions." Hanley's calm voice sounded. He gently placed his warm palm on Candice's arm, giving her enough support. "The probability of a malformed fetus isn't that high, and you're very healthy. Maybe the hospital made a mistake, and the doctor just mentioned that the chances of error are high, didn't he ask you to come for a re-examination?"
Instantly encouraged by his words, Candice reached out and held Hanley's hand tightly on her arm, as if grasping a lifeline. She stuttered, "Yes, there's a re-examination... re-examination..."
Looking down at her, Hanley pursed his lips and swallowed. "It's okay, everything will be fine."
A sense of indescribable panic swept over Candice and engulfed her whole body. She tried to move to stand up, but she felt her whole body go weak, as if she would collapse as soon as she exerted any force.
Fortunately, a pair of steady hands supported her shoulders, and Hanley's voice was low. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
"Okay." She nodded, slowly getting up with his help.
But before she could fully stand up, she heard a voice. "Mr. Elysian..."
Candice looked up and saw Alex standing not far away. Her emotions were so tense that she couldn't clearly see his face.
She blinked and tightened the hand holding onto Hanley's arm, her voice hoarse as she said, "Hanley, I don't have any strength in my body. I can't seem to get up."
Hanley looked up at Alex, his eyes slightly narrowed and emotions churning in the depths of his eyes. But in the end, he sighed softly and gently stroked Candice's shoulder, whispering, "Then let's wait a while before going back."
Originally, Candice was holding onto his arm, and her whole body was leaning toward him. Now, with him patting Candice's shoulder, the two of them appeared even more intimate.
Alex stood not far away, watching. His already deep pupils seemed even darker. He pressed his thin lips tightly together, his well-defined features appearing cold and proud.
His gaze was firmly fixed on Candice and his hands clenched when suddenly his phone rang.
Glancing down, Alex frowned, seeming annoyed.
Soon, he lifted his gaze and looked at the sight of Candice and Hanley leaning against each other, then turned and left.

After returning home from the hospital, Candice's condition didn't improve.
Once others found out about this matter, the atmosphere in the entire villa became very dull.
Nadia wanted to come and comfort Candice several times but didn't know what to say. Any mother who suddenly hears that her child might be malformed wouldn't feel good.
Moreover, everyone could tell that although Candice didn't say it outright, she had been looking forward to the birth of the child.
The living room was too quiet. Nadia bit her lip and gestured to Hanley, "Boss, go and comfort Candice."
Hanley lowered his eyes without saying a word.
She urged again, "Hurry up! She must be feeling very sad right now!"
Hanley looked upstairs. Candice had gone straight upstairs after coming back, saying she was tired and wanted to sleep.
But even Nadia could tell that it was an excuse.
Right now, she probably didn't want to see anyone.
After some contemplation, Hanley got up and left straight away.
Candice didn't sleep, she just needed this quiet space without anyone disturbing her.
When the doctor had told her the results, she felt as if a thunderbolt had exploded in her mind and found it very difficult to accept.
Now that she had calmed down, she touched her belly and felt bitterness in her heart.
The doctor's sympathetic and sighing tone echoed in her ears, the word "abortion" made her feel as if her heart was being stabbed just by hearing them.
Baby Mulberry.
Her Baby Mulberry.
How could this happen?
Candice wandered in the room dazedly until the whole room darkened. When there was a knock at the door, she reacted slowly.
She got up to open the door, but because the light was very dim, she almost bumped into the door.
Struggling to open the door, the light outside poured in instantly, and she instinctively closed her eyes.
When Candice opened her eyes again, she saw Hanley standing at the door, with a caring expression in his deep eyes that was impossible to ignore. "It's better to have something to eat before going to sleep."
He didn't say anything more than necessary but just looked at Candice calmly and gently.
She didn't miss the concern in his eyes. She nodded silently after a moment of silence and followed Hanley downstairs.
There was no one in the living room, only a dinner was set on the table.
Three dishes and one soup, all very light, just Candice's usual taste.
She sat down at the table, still feeling a bit absent-minded, but she still asked Hanley, "Where are the others?"
It was only when she spoke that she realized how hoarse her voice was.
"They went out for something." He served her a bowl of soup and pushed it in front of her, saying softly, "I consulted with some friends this afternoon. They said that errors in examinations are very common and there are many factors that can affect the results, such as your diet and level of fatigue before the examination.
"And they also said that one examination doesn't mean anything. As long as you adjust your state of mind, there's a high chance that the results of the re-examination will change."
Hanley placed his phone in front of Candice. "We have our records, and the cases he sent me, you can take a look at them."
Candice looked at Hanley blankly, then followed his guidance and looked at the phone.

Alex almost came back on time. Daniel's face was gloomy, and he slammed the file in his hand on the table. "You want to acquire Horizon Holdings and you didn't even tell me?"
Alex just glanced at the document and lightly mocked, "This matter is within my ability, and it's only a problem for our branch. I don't think I need to report to you."
Daniel's sharp and cold gaze stared at him, but Alex remained unchanged.
"If you have nothing else, I'll leave first."
Daniel sneered, and casually threw another document in front of Alex. The contempt and disdain on his face were evident. "I've said before, if you can't handle Candice's affairs yourself, I'll handle them for you."
Alex paused, lowered his gaze to the document on the table, and when he saw the words clearly, his eyes widened, and he looked up sharply at Daniel.
Daniel snorted coldly. "Even if this child is yours, do you think I would let a malformed child carry the Elysian surname?"
