Chapter 178
Chapter 178
Candice’s gaze fixed on her apartment’s sealed door, her lips pressed firmly in frustration.
She recalled Helen’s stern words but hadn’t anticipated such drastic measures.
When she contacted the building’s management, she was met with a dismissive attitude.
“Apologies. Ms. Renault, we only handle the property. I suggest speaking with Mr. Elysian regarding
your concerns,” they advised.
The Vestry Residence was home to the affluent, many of whom housed their mistresses there.
Property managers had seen a lot of unpleasant instances where family members tried to reclaim
properties after learning about adulterous affairs. The wealthy tenants were not to be trifled with. so the
staff often overlooked such matters.
Candice hung up the phone and left the complex.
Fortunately, she had her documents with her so she could stay at a hotel for the time being before
returning for her possessions.
She was psychologically and physically drained, and she had barely responded to the realization that
she had been evicted from her home.
Luckily, there was a hotel near the apartment, so she didn’t have to go far, and immediately went to
book a room.
In the hotel lobby she encountered Yana. Her arms were linked with a handsome man.
Yana was stunned when she saw Candice. “What a coincidence,” she said with a smile as she
approached her. “What brought you here?”
Candice turned to Yana and said, “I’m here to get some sleep.”
Yana noticed Candice’s condition, and thought for a moment. “Are you here to get away f home
because you’re upset and can’t sleep?”

Candice said nothing. Only the wealthy youth would switch to hotel living for a change of scene.
Yana reassured her. “Don’t worry too much. Let people talk. Knowing who you truly are is what
matters.”
Despite Yana’s friendly and well–meaning approach, Candice was eager for rest and blurted out. I’ve
been evicted, and now I need a hotel to stay. Could you excuse me, Ms. Landor?”

Yana fell silent briefly before asking. “Has Hanley been informed?”
Without waiting for a reply. Yana released the man beside her.
She grasped Candice’s hand and led her out, proposing. “Skip the hotel. I’ll have Hanley fat He’s got a
big house all to himself.”
Yana dialed Hanley before Candice could intervene.
Candice attempted to dissuade her, “There is no need to trouble Hanley. It’s just a night at a hotel.”
Her friendship with Hanley wasn’t intimate enough to impose such a favor.
As Candice contemplated further refusal, Hanley answered the call. Yana bluntly instructed.” Come to
the Belmond Hotel to pick up Candy. I’ve got her waiting. This is your chance.”
After a brief exchange, Yana said, “Let’s discuss it when you arrive,” then hung up.
Holding Candice’s hand, she asked, “Had dinner yet? If not, I’m buying. There’s a great dessert place
close by.”
With little appetite but knowing Yana’s persistence, Candice resignedly followed.
With her grandfather’s condition and Yvonne persistently bothering her, Candice’s spirits low. Yana
busied herself with her phone after ordering food.

Hanley arrived quickly. He was still in his work attire, jeans and black overalls, and was speckled with
white paint. He’d come straight from his studio. His tall, lean figure was accentuated by his dark work
clothes.
Yana commented in a low voice, “Since his youth, Hanley’s charming looks have always been a hit with
the girls.”
Candice had to admit that Hanley did indeed have strikingly handsome features.
Unaware of Yana’s remark, Hanley maintained a stoic expression upon arrival. His eyes briefly rested
on Candice, then his brow creased in concern.
“Have you lost weight?”
His question caught Candice off guard. She realized that, in the midst of her chaotic life, she hadn’t
noticed any weight change. However, considering her circumstances, it made sense.
With Yana around, Hanley avoided delving deeper into his questions.

Yana performed the majority of the talking during the meal. Candice would occasionally answer.
As the meal wrapped up, Yana expressed her dissatisfaction with a sigh.
“You both are quite dull. This dinner would’ve ended sooner without me.
Hanley was expressionless and countered, “Even with you here, it would’ve ended sooner.”
Yana wanted to arque but couldn’t think of anything to say. She looked at Candice and patted her
shoulder reassuringly.
“Don’t worry too much. Things will get better. Reach out if you need anything.”
This seemed to be Yana’s most heartfelt comment of the evening.
Candice watched her depart with a smile.
Alone with Hanley, he queried, “What about your luggage?”
“It’s locked inside my house.”
Hanley frowned slightly and started towards the parking area, Candice following him.
Feeling somewhat uneasy, she whispered, “I wasn’t expecting Yana to call you. Maybe I should just
return to the hotel.” She didn’t want to bother him.
Hanley came to a halt and turned to face her. “Nadia and the others are concerned about you,” he
replied after a little pause. Come and meet them. I’ll take you to the hotel if you don’t want to remain at NôvelDrama.Org © content.
my house.”
Phrased in such a way, Candice could hardly refuse.
Hanley’s residence was in Dorrington City’s new villa district.
When they arrived, Nadia and Ryan were waiting in the living room.
Spotting Candice, Nadia rose and explained, “We were about to have some snacks. Would you like
something?”
Candice declined politely, “No, thank you.”
Nadia accepted her decision. She drew her into a seat on the sofa.
Candice took a peek around. The house was empty, with only the necessary furniture, yet the walls
were beautifully decorated. A corner stacked with wood indicated the living room doubled as a
workshop.

“The Boss was in the middle of making a frame when he got your call,” Nadia casually remarked.
He dropped everything and ran to you.” Her tone echoed Yana’s playful manner.
Candice appreciated the gesture. She knew Hanley was a wonderful man, and he was looking
after her primarily because of Jackson.
Her expression relaxed slightly. She raised her head to Hanley and said gently, “Thank you.”
Looking around at the materials in the corner, she realized she hadn’t touched any work relating
to Hanley’s side because of her problems at home.
