Chapter 65

Chapter 65 Poor Thing!

“Mr. Crawford…”

Looking at Byron’s sullen face, the subordinate called his

name cautiously.

“Go out.” Byron waved his hand dejectedly.

The subordinate hesitated for a moment and then left.

Byron couldn’t fall asleep this night.

The next day, he set off to the cemetery when the dawn was

still dark.

He knew nothing about Athena’s Grandma.

He hadn’t even seen her before.

Ignorant of what to buy for mourning, he finally bought a

bunch of white carnations.

“Sir, are you here to mourn for Madam Lewis?” The cemetery keeper hurried over, surprised to see

Byron.

He hadn’t seen him before, thinking that this handsome man

must be a big shot.

“Yes.” Byron nodded. “This is my first time here. Can I trouble you to lead the way?”

“My pleasure!” The cemetery keeper responded with delight.

Normally, only Athena would come to the cemetery to see her family. Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

So he was delighted to see one more person come to visit them.

“Are you a student of Sir Newton or Madam Lewis?” The keeper asked while walking.

“Neither.” Byron paused and added, “I’m Athena’s friend.”

“What?” The keeper turned his head in astonishment, sizing up Byron again.

Would someone come to visit the grave of a friend’s

Grandma?

He thought it over.

“You are Athena’s boyfriend, right?” His smile faded. “Why didn’t I see you at the funeral?”

The keeper looked severe, his tone full of accusations.

Byron had never been criticized like this.

Even his great-grandfather had never criticized him so hard when he was alive.

However, he wasn’t angry at all.

“I was busy at that time…” Byron tried to explain.

“What were you busy with? Was there anything more important than Madam Lewis’ death?” The

keeper questioned him in rage, “Since you are Athena’s boyfriend, you must know her experience. How

could you leave her alone attending her grandmother’s funeral?”

As he spoke, his eyes turned red again. “It was raining. Athena was so sad that she knelt in front of the

grave all day, and she even couldn’t take steady steps when standing up… Poor

thing!”

His words wrenched at Byron’s heart.

“Didn’t anyone stop her when she knelt there all day?” Byron

asked.

“She was too stubborn, listening to no one!” While wiping away his tears, the keeper said, “I watched

her part with her

mother, her Grandpa, and then her Grandma one by one. She must have been heartbroken…”

Byron clenched his fists, imagining that scene.

It was still cold in early spring. Athena knelt in the rain helplessly, and her slender figure was about to

break down.

The keeper was annoyed with Byron.

Yet he still brought him to Romy’s grave.

Byron put the flowers in front of the grave and bowed.

He didn’t know what to say.

If Romy knew how he treated Athena, she wouldn’t have let

him off.

He ignored Athena and emotionally abused her, taking all she had done for him for granted.

After a long silence, Byron could only say sorry softly.

But he promised that he would take good care of Athena from now on, no longer leaving her to suffer

alone.

As Byron finished mourning, the keeper led him to leave from the other side.

“We don’t return by the same way in the cemetery,” the keeper explained.

Byron followed him silently.

Walking for a while, Byron stopped suddenly.

There was a grocery store not far away, which had appeared in the picture on Athena’s Instagram.

“Oh…” Seeing him stop in place, the keeper turned around and returned, telling him, “When Athena

attended her mother’s

funeral here at a young age, she cried a lot, and Sir Newton bought an ice cream at this grocery store

to coax her.”
