Mysterious Little Wife

Chapter 40 Are You Out of Your Mind?

Chapter 40 Are You Out of Your Mind?

The rain was getting heavier.

And the wind grew strong.

What a horrible shape the ocean had.

They needed to seek shelter from the rain as soon as possible!

The sky, however, was overcast, and the island seemed to be dreary.

Fortunately, Lacey had lived in the country since she was a child. She had done things like harvesting

millet, planting saplings in the rain, and catching fish.

Although it was pouring fiercely, she remained calm and understood that she needed to find shelter

from the rain.

Otherwise, as the sky darkened, the island could be in danger at any time.

Meanwhile, how had the president of GH ever come across such a challenge?

He walked slowly along the way. His temper was as gloomy as the weather.

Lacey wished she could just ignore him. However, there was no one else on the island but him.

If any beasts appeared, she wouldn't be able to deal with them alone.

As a result, she occasionally turned her head to check on him.

The sand beneath her feet soon covered her shoes. The air was filled with an indescribable smell that

made it difficult to breathe.

Lacey made her way along the dense branches of the trees as she looked around.

She was hoping to find some cover from the rain.

However, her vision gradually blurred as the rain became heavier.

Just as Lacey wiped the rain off her face, she noticed a large rock in the distance.

She turned and looked at Sam, waving her hand as she said, "Hurry over. There seems to be a rocky

hill ahead of us. Let's go see if there's anywhere to take shelter from the rain—"

Sam's expression turned glum just before she finished her sentence, and he struck forward.

......

He grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her over.

Just like that, Lacey crashed into the man's arms.

Such an intense collision caused tears to fall from her eyes.

"Are you mad!" Lacey yelled in his arms, her eyes crimson, as she fought to push him away.

"Don't move!" Sam's hoarse voice sounded above her head.

"What are you doing? Let me go!" Lacey fought to break free.

As if oblivious to her yelling, Sam held her in his arms as he carefully backed away.

Lacey looked up and found his eyes unusually serious.

Frowning slightly, she followed his sight and looked back.

"Gasp," she took a deep breath.

Two snakes were coiling around the branch she had just moved aside.

"Stand still!" He pushed her back.

After that, he took a branch from the ground and dragged the snakes away.

The two snakes swam around subconsciously after landing on the ground.

Lacey was taken aback.

She didn't have any fears.

Except for snakes, that was.

She had been bitten by a snake as a child while helping her mother pick sweet potatoes. Worst still, it

was a viper!

She was scared out of her wits.

Since then, she has developed a phobia of snakes!

After taking two steps forward, Sam turned to look back.

He found Lacey standing still, arms crossed and shivering. Her face was gravely pale.

"Are you terrified of snakes?" He asked.

Lacey bit her lower lip, her scalp tingling. She couldn't move at all.

"Are you going to leave or not?" Sam couldn't resist asking again, as Lacey didn't respond.

Despite this, she remained motionless, even as the rain poured down on her. Her eyes gradually

dimmed.

Sam glanced at her indifferently.

How could a person who had been so lively a few minutes ago now become sad and glum? He felt a

little uneasy about it.

What was she thinking now?

Sam frowned. A deep look of hostility flashed across his eyes.

He moved up to her and casually threw his arm around her waist. After that, he lifted her horizontally

and started to walk forward.

The sudden gesture brought Lacey back to reality.

Sam remained silent in the rain. He went to the rocky hill she pointed.

Shortly after, he discovered a small cave.

It wasn't big inside, with some dead branches and a pile of burnt dust.

It was clear that someone had come here before.

After placing her inside on a stone bench, Sam decisively moved the dried branches in the middle.

He then used a lighter to light the branches.

Soon the sound of burning flames came from the cave.

"Thank you—" Lacey's eyelashes twitched. It took a lot of effort for her to keep her tone calm.

Sam remained silent. He frowned as he lowered his head and pressed the back of his hand forcefully.

Lacey held her breath and gazed at him with a frown.

"What's the matter?" She couldn't sit still any longer and got up, proceeded to walk over.

Sam stayed deafeningly silent. His tight frown loosened, but his fingers pressed on the back of his

hand did not.

Lacey frowned even more at the sight, her face flushed with unease.

She dropped to her knees and snatched his hand away, forcing it open.

Two teeth marks on the back of his hand were exposed at that precise moment.

The marks of a snake bite!

The marks she could never forget!

"When did you get bitten by a snake?" Lacey looked up nervously at Sam.

"It doesn't matter!" Sam withdrew his hand. His tone was unusually calm.

Lacey frowned and wondered if she had missed any details.

"Did you hold it for me?" She asked, her face flushed with shock.

Sam sneered, "Don't think too highly of yourself—"

"Give me your hand!" Lacey cut him off in the middle of his sentence.

With worried eyes, she abruptly took his hand.

What should she do in this situation? She had no idea if the snake was venomous or not!

What if it was potentially dangerous?

Lacey quickly unzipped her backpack and pulled a pocket knife from inside.

She then squeezed the mark on the back of his hand after making a small cut on it.

Sam was slightly startled as he looked at her serious expression.

What astonished him even more, was the sudden sensation of a warm, moist touch on the back of his

hand.

"Are you crazy?" Sam grabbed her chin and asked in astonishment, "Are you out of your mind?"

Lacey looked at him and said nothing, nor did she show any other expression.

With her other hand, she pushed his hand away. Lacey began sucking the blood from his hand and

spat it out repeatedly as she lowered her head.

Finally, after a few minutes, she stopped.

"Do you think I'd be grateful to you for that?" Sam's eyes widened in shock. He hadn't expected her to

behave in this way.

Lacey wiped the corner of her mouth. She then removed her hair tie and wrapped it around his wrist,

starting to take precautions.

Sam frowned even more. He sneered, "Have you never read a book, or do you watch too much

television? Sucking poison with your mouth is the most ineffective and dumb way. There is no way to

avoid a viper's poison! You wouldn't be able to get away if you got poisoned as well!"

"I had no intention of getting away!" Her gaze dulled for a few seconds. Then she burst out laughing.

"I, Lacey Carter, don't owe anyone anything. It would be our luck if it weren't a poisonous snake. But if

it was, and you saved my life, I will gladly repay your kindness. You'll be alive if you are lucky. But even

if you aren't, I owe you nothing. After all, I did my part!"

Upon hearing this, Sam's gaze grew deep. He gave her a thoughtful look.

"I'm going to put everything in the hands of fate." Lacey shrugged. She then took some biscuits and a

water bottle from her bag and placed them next to Sam. "Eat if you're hungry or thirsty."

After that, she took off her coat and murmured a complaint, "I wonder when the rain will stop. It's

uncomfortable in wet clothes."

Lacey picked up a long branch and hung her clothes, squatting in front of Sam while she dried them by

the fire.

Sam remained quiet. Staring at her back, his pupils dilated all of a sudden.

Lacey had a noticeable plum blossom birthmark on her left shoulder.

Plum blossom?

Sam narrowed his icy eyes. Just then, an image of a video flashed through his mind.

Indeed, he had only gotten a slight glimpse of the video's contents.

However, he clearly remembered that the girl in the video had flawless skin.

Lacey, on the other hand, had a visible birthmark on her back.

Which meant—

She was not the girl in the video!

It wasn't Lacey Carter!

Sam's eyes welled up with bewilderment at this point.

......

The two on the remote island had no idea their fortunes were about to change.

Meanwhile, there was a commotion in the hotel.

"Why did you bring the yacht back?" Lillianna seemed like a madwoman at this point. She grabbed the

driver by the collar with a ferocious look.

"I discovered that something was wrong with the yacht and that I needed to return to fix it. Then, just as

I was about to go back, you guys returned—" The driver looked aggrieved.

"I'll fire you! I'll fire you right now! Get out of here!" Lillianna shouted. She then looked to the hotel

manager and ordered, "Send someone to find him!"

"Ms. Carter, please stay calm. We're more concerned about Mr. Garrison's disappearance than anyone

else. However, there is a major storm brewing in the sea right now. There's no way we'll be able to

sail!" The manager explained hastily.

"What do you mean you can't sail? Even with all your wealth, you can't afford it if he loses a strand of

his hair! Do you understand?" Lillianna was seething with rage.

She was worried about Sam's disappearance.

She was terrified even more that he was with Lacey.

With the two of them alone, the b*tch would almost certainly try to seduce him!

What if—

"It doesn't matter to me which approach you use. I want you to get on the water immediately! Now—"

Lillianna demanded with a shout.

"But—" The manager frowned, unsure of what to do. He could only look to Theo for help. "Mr.

Henderson, what do you think?"

Theo shifted his gaze to the stormy sea. It was swirling violently, and the thunder rumbled on and on.

"Let's wait a bit longer!" He suggested.

Lillianna shrieked right away. "Are you insane? What do you mean by wait? For the love of God, that's

your cousin!"

Theo's expression was solemn as he retorted, "Of course, I know he's my cousin. I'm more worried

than you as my girlfriend is still on the island. However, there is currently a large storm on the sea. Who

can we turn to for help? Sailing now will not be a rescue but a death wish. Also, Sam is not as frail as This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

you think. He won't have such a vast property if he's as weak as you imagine!"

What Theo said proved that Sam was not as pampered as he seemed.

"When are we going to save him then?" Lillianna softened her tone after noticing Theo's rage

"We'll set off as soon as the storm stops!" He answered.
