Mysterious Little Wife

Chapter 54 You’re Only Worth That Much!

Chapter 54 You’re Only Worth That Much!

Lacey frowned and took the man's hand in both of hers.

Her eyes were piercing as she glared at the man, signaling him to stop moving!

......

However, Sam lifted a faint smile, seemingly unfazed by her worries.

With only a little effort, he then managed to turn the table and grabbed her hand instead.

Why was she so desperate to hide?

Who could she possibly be afraid of?

Was it Lillianna?

Well, that wasn't quite possible. She wasn't the least bit afraid of Lillianna.

Which meant it could only be Theo!

She was afraid that he'd get jealous seeing them like this!

She was worried that he would misunderstand her!

The more Sam thought about it, the more he felt uncomfortable.

His left hand gripped both of hers tightly while his right hand tenderly stroked her back.

Lacey tensed up all of a sudden.

What was this man doing?

"Is this the nursery?" Lillianna entered and took a glance around.

"Why is it so small?" After all, the Garrison house had numerous rooms, each relatively spacious.

Why was it necessary to make the nursery room so small?

"In large rooms, children often feel nervous. We liked small rooms when we were kids as it gave us a

sense of security!" Marlon casually replied.

Lillianna nodded in approval. The corners of her lips rose.

This would be her child's future room—

Her baby—

The smile on her face grew. She could already imagine a miniature version of Sam cuddling up to her

and calling her mum.

"Let's go." Theo was in no mood to stay, as the person he sought was not around.

Lillianna, on the other hand, insisted on staying a little longer. "Let's take a look around," she said

calmly.

The more she looked at the room, the more she liked it.

Then, she sat down on the bed.

"It's a nice bed." Lillianna propped her hands on the edge of the bed, rocking her legs as she did so.

Meanwhile, Lacey, who was hiding underneath, was annoyed by the sight of Lillianna's swaying legs.

Why hadn't she left yet?

"Hiss—" Lacey suddenly took a deep breath, then pursed her lips hastily. She glanced at Sam in

disbelief.

Did he just touch her earlobe?

No way! That was her most sensitive part!

Every single one of her pores opened up at this very moment.

Lacey's face flushed, but she had to control herself not to make a sound. It made her feel very

uncomfortable.

What made her even madder was the look on Sam's face.

He had cunning written all over his face!

Indeed, she couldn't go out at this moment.

After all, she was still Theo's girlfriend by name.

Lacey wouldn't explain herself if she were spotted underneath the bed!

Though their relationship was fake, there were other people around.

In any case, if word got out, it would be devastating for her.

Even so—

The man in front of her was far too cunning!

"Show me what you've got."

Sam gestured the word with his mouth.

Lacey remained silent but gazed fixedly at him with her deep, never-ending eyes, eyes that could send

shivers down one's spine.

Sam had a feeling something terrible was about to happen. But before he could react, Lacey had

pounced on him!

Later, his chin was mercilessly bitten.

Lacey was never someone to be trifled with.

If anyone ever provoked her, she would return the favor twice!

......

Sam frowned slightly due to the pain in his chin.

But only for a brief moment.

Apparently, his skin was thick enough that the bite wasn't so bad as to make him scream.

Of course, Lacey was fully aware of this.

If this man had managed to reach his current position, he must have been through many hardships.

Sure, he could tolerate such minor pain.

Still—

Not all things were endurable for men.

For instance—

Sam's pupils dilated just then. Miscalculation and astonishment rose in his eyes.

Never in his entire life had he imagined she would be so bold—

Lacey let go of his chin. Eyebrows raised, she tightened her grip on him.

Hiss!

Sam drew a deep breath.

What a ruthless person she was!

"Do you still want to play?" Lacey gestured the word with her mouth.

In fact, she'd bitten his chin on purpose. She wanted to withdraw her hand while he was distracted.

Though they both expressed the gesture with their mouths, the only difference was that Lacey's eyes

shone with a starburst, as bright and dazzling as a star in a night.

Having seen that, Sam remained motionless but staring at her.

The twins shared the same face, and yet, why did he find Lacey's more interesting?

"If you don't go, I'll go. I'm still looking for Lacey." Theo frowned, sounding anxious. Then, he headed

for the door.

"Wait for me!" Lillianna hurried to her feet and followed suit.

"I told you there's no one here," Marlon, who had been on the side the entire time, mumbled.

Following that, he made up the bed on which Lillianna had just sat.

Once everything settled, he closed the door and left.

"Swoosh!"

Lacey crawled up from under the bed as soon as the door shut.

She rose to her feet and brushed the dust off her shirt.

"This is the first time I've ever hidden underneath a bed—" Sam crawled out from under the bed as

well. He raised a weak smile.

It would certainly be embarrassing if word of this got out.

Lacey paused brushing her shirt after hearing what he said. With a mischievous smile, she turned to

face Sam. "You first time, huh?"

Sam knew this girl was up to no good when he spotted her eyes looking around.

Sure enough, he was right.

"That'll be one million dollars." She held out her hand. "Give me the money, and I'll keep it a secret."

Sam couldn't help but chuckle. "That cheap?"

Lacey gave him an innocent smile right away. "It's too bad. You're only worth that much!"

"Is that so?" Sam grinned. "Is that money to reward me then?"

Lacey had already walked up to the door and placed her hand on the handle. Without looking back at

him, she replied, "The one million dollars is for the fact that I just touched you. It didn't come cheap. I

could have bought a lot of things with that money—"

Her voice was tinged with regret and dissatisfaction.

It felt as if she had been the one who had been cheated out of a million dollars.

She then walked out with a sigh and a shrug.

As Sam watched her departing back, the corners of his lips rose even more. The gloom in his eyes

grew darker.

Eventually, he let out a chuckle.

The banquet, on the other hand, went off without a hitch.

Time flew by.

At 9 pm, most of the people left.

When Bailey learned of Alvaro's decision, he was taken aback.

He, like Lillianna, had no trust in Lacey staying at the Garrison.

Lacey was a ticking time bomb for him.

He had no idea when she was going to blow up.

Just a moment ago, Bailey went to Lacey, hoping that Lacey would decline Alvaro's offer and go home.

Little did he know that she would retort, "You tell him yourself. It was Uncle Alvaro who wanted me to

stay. I had no choice!"

Bailey was enraged, so much so that he felt compelled to slap such a disobedient daughter across the

face.

......

"Dad—" Lillianna was hesitant to leave. However, Alvaro didn't seem to want her to stay.

Tilly, on the other hand, had been too preoccupied to pay her any attention.

As for Sam, he hadn't said anything.

She wished she could stay, but she didn't dare.

After all, she had always acted shyly in front of others. Her public persona was that of a lady.

Hence, what would the world think of her if she insisted on staying?

"Stop being silly, Lillianna. You are, after all, engaged to Sam. What else is there to worry about? If you

don't ask to stay, do you want Lacey to steal your man?" Anger was evident in Madeleine's eyes.

Lillianna looked to her and said, "But mum, he didn't ask me to stay—"

"Why bother with his opinion? How would you two have ended up engaged if you hadn't taken the

initiative?" Madeleine rolled her eyes.

After a slight pause, it dawned on Lillianna that Madeleine was right.

Happiness had always been determined by her initiative.

"Lillianna, your mother was right. Do you want her to take your place?" Bailey had to remind her as

well, mainly because he had always been wary of Lacey.

Nevertheless, he figured he could still make good use of her.

After all, the Hendersons were no less potent than the Garrisons!

"Okay, mummy, I got it," Lillianna returned to the hall after making up her mind.

The first person she encountered was Sam.

"Sam—" Lillianna approached him with caution.

For some reason, she couldn't seem to see through this man anymore.

She had the constant feeling that he was getting further and further away from her.

Then again, it didn't seem like it.

After all, if Sam no longer loved her, he could have turned down the marriage. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

But he hadn't!

Nevertheless, she had a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right.

More importantly, Sam was the last person she wanted to see right now!

Something told her he'd turn down her request to stay overnight—

"What's the matter?" Sam's voice was as gentle as it had always been.

Such an angelic voice soothed Lillianna's tension. "Sam, can I—" She stammered.

"It's getting late. Why don't you go back and get some rest?" Sam cut her sentence short.

Lillianna froze slightly. Her eyes fixed on Sam, and she couldn't react in time.

Amidst her pause, Sam leaned closer with a smirk. He stroked her hair and said, "Don't you have

school tomorrow? I know you have a habit of waking up late and missing lessons. What are you waiting

for? Hurry up and get home to sleep, okay?"

The two were so close together.

His breathing seemed to be brushing against her lips.

Lillianna's heart was racing, and her cheeks were flushed.

"Be a good girl, yeah?" Sam smiled gently, his eyes full of affection.

Lillianna was taken aback.

It was the first time she had ever looked at him so closely as if she were looking at a piece of art—

She was taken aback by his allure.

"O-Okay. I'm going to get some rest straight immediately. I'm sure that I will be in school on time

tomorrow. I promise I'm not going to be late—" Her voice trembled and broke, as nervous as her

heartbeat.

"Good girl." Sam stroked her hair again." Then I'll get on with my work."

Lillianna nodded hastily, like an obedient child.

Having seen that, Sam smiled with satisfaction and turned to leave.

As he turned away from Lillianna, the gentle smile on his lip vanished in the blink of an eye.

Meanwhile, Lillianna was already outside the door by the time she snapped back to her senses.

"Why are you here?" Madeleine looked at Lillianna and stomped her foot with rage.

"Didn't I tell you to spend the night at the Garrisons?" Bailey frowned and looked incredulous.

"Sam asked me to rest early so that I won't be late to school tomorrow—" Lillianna blushed and

responded shyly.

She hadn't recovered from Sam's tenderness. She was still reeling from what had just happened.

Bailey shook his head helplessly.

Madeleine, too sighed and got into the car.

How could they have raised such a useless child?

One by one, the guests left the banquet.

The Garrison house gradually quieted down.

Tilly had been busy all day. As a result, she was already very sleepy.

She and Alvaro talked for a while and then went upstairs to rest.

Just as Alvaro finished his business, he saw Lacey and her daughter, who was coming up in a fury.

"Daddy, get her out of here!" Sophia yelled like a spoiled brat.

She didn't like her at all.

She liked her even less now that she was Theo's girlfriend.

......

"Lacey, can I call you that?" Alvaro asked with a smile.

"Of course, Uncle Alvaro." Lacey nodded and replied in a light tone.

"Sophia is in your hands. Don't mind us. Just do as you wish." Alvaro chuckled.

"All right, Uncle Alvaro." Lacey smiled and nodded.

"Daddy!" Sophia squealed. "This is not what I want!"

She thought her father was joking about hiring Lacey to discipline her. She didn't think it was real!

"Don't pick on Lacey, and don't bother Sam or Theo about it. They're busy with your uncle's business.

Don't make a fuss about it, okay? Well, it's been a busy day, and I'm tired. I'm going to go and rest

now!" Alvaro had drunk a lot of wine. He, too, was worn out.

Now only Lacey and Sophia were left in the hall.

"Get lost!" Sophia crossed her hand and said arrogantly, "This is my home!"

Lacey cocked her head, a grin on her face. She then sat on the couch with her legs crossed.

"Repeat that!"
