Chapter 101 Matthew Isn’t Who He Appears To Be

The atmosphere at the poker table was lively. After checking his cards, Chris laughed and remarked, “Mikael, you’re going to lose big this time!”

Mikael raised his eyebrows and responded, “I don’t think so. In fact, how about we raise the stakes?”

“How much?” Chris narrowed his gaze, wondering whether Mikael might have a good hand tonight.

Amidst the laughter, the door to the private room was pushed open forcefully.

Startled, everyone in the room turned to look.

Matthew stood at the door, staring at them grimly.

Chris recognized Matthew and clicked his tongue before throwing his cards onto the table.

At the same time, Mikael stood up and walked over with a light smile. “What brings you here, Mr. Hood?”

Matthew’s expression remained grim. “I’m looking for Radley.”

As he spoke, he tried to enter the room.

Immediately, Chris stood up and blocked Matthew’s path. “Who let you in?”

Matthew narrowed his eyes and pushed Chris aside.

“Hey!” Caught off guard, Chris took two steps back. He cursed and rolled up his sleeves, ready to fight.

“Chris, don’t!” A deep voice came from a dark corner.

Chris had a fiery temper and wouldn’t listen to anyone when he was mad. He raised his fist and was about to strike.

Seeing that, Mikael grabbed Chris by circling the latter’s neck from behind.

“Mikael!”

On the other hand, Matthew ignored Chris’ murderous glare and walked straight toward Radley, who was sitting on the sofa.

As he approached, he noticed the female escort sitting next to Radley. A hint of disdain flashed across his

eyes.

“Radley, I never knew you would play foul and use the Hood Group to threaten Freya to break

me.”

Radley’s expression remained indifferent, though his deep gaze was fixed on Matthew.

If it hadn’t been for not wanting to anger Freya, Radley would have kicked Matthew out of Caltun long

ago.

“We’re all businessmen, Mr. Hood. If you were honest and upright, you wouldn’t get the deal from the Porters last month,” Radley said.

His voice filled with detachment.

When Matthew heard that, his gaze flickered. The business with the Porters had been kept strictly confidential. It hadn’t been announced yet, and yet Radley knew.

Radley put down his glass. His cold voice carried a warring tone as he said, “Matthew, I’ll only say this once. Freya is mine If you don’t wanna watch the Hood Group going out of business, stay away from her

Sneering. Matthew replied. “Tll say this too today. I won’t give up on Freya. If you wanted the Hood Group to go out of business, you’d better think twice about whether you can do it!

The men who played poker with Chris and Mikael earlier stood up upon hearing Matthew’s words,

“Mr. Hood, you’re too full of yourself. You can try and go against Radley. See what you get.” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Someone also taunted, “If your younger brother hadn’t died, you would have just been a tool in the Hood family’s marriage arrangement. Now that you’ve just gained power, you start to become arrogant!”

Matthew’s look turned icy, and he shot the speaker a chilling look.

“Say that again.”

“Everyone in Caltun knows about the situation in your family. You weren’t supposed to take over the Hood Group. Who knows, maybe your younger brother was- The man screamed in pain before he could finish.

No one had expected that Matthew would beat someone up here.

The young men in the private room were all taken aback. Nobody in Caltun would dare to fight in front of Radley except for Chris and Mikael.

Even when they were hanging out like usual, they would joke carefully around Radley.

Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room dropped. Chris spat on the ground. Mikael continued to circle his arm around Chris’ neck, making it difficult for Chris to move.

“Mikael, let go of me.”

Just then, Radley stood up. “Mikael, see Mr. Hood out.”

This was Chris’ territory. Soon, the bodyguards rushed in. One of them reached their hand to Matthew but the latter slapped his hand away. There was a fierce and dark look in Matthew’s upturned eyes.

He glanced at Radley one last time.

“Radley, you can’t control everything. You had lost her once, and you’ll lose her again.”

Then, Matthew left.

The young men in the room tried to calm Chris down, but no one dared to approach Radley.

Radley was sitting in a dimly lit corner, so it was difficult to see his expression.

However, after hearing the conversation between Matthew and Radley, the others were aware of what was going on.

“That dude is really ignorant of the situation. How dare he compete with Radley for a woman? He’s looking for trouble!”

Matthew Isn’t Who He Appears To Be

*Exactly, even though the Hoods are doing well in terms of finance, they still can’t compare to the Monaghan Group.”

Meanwhile, Radley gave no response, so someone tried to attract his attention by saying. “And that woman, Freya. Is she blind? Radley and Matthew are not even comparable!“

“Yeah, I can’t believe she’s the daughter of the Kaufmanns. She has no taste when it comes to men!”

Chris frowned. Despite his bad temper, he was still sensitive to the situation. Immediately, he realized that the two’s words might have offended Radley.

“Shut up, all of you!”

Those young men were taken aback and exchanged glances.

At the same time, Mikael saw Radley get up from the sofa and walk toward the table. Somehow, Mikael couldn’t help but shiver.

Radley walked up to the two who claimed that Freya had no taste.

“Do you know Freya?”

“N-No, I don’t. Even though she’s a Kaufmann, she hasn’t appeared at any social events in recent years.” answered one of them, trying to please Radley.

“So, why did you say she has no taste in men?”

Startled, the man who answered felt like he was being stared at by a fierce beast.

“I-I just felt that she failed to recognize a great man.”

Radley sneered.

The man was sweating profusely. His legs were shaky. Eventually, he couldn’t sit still anymore and stood up to bow respectfully. “Radley, I’m sorry! I was wrong”

“You weren’t talking about me. Why should you apologize to me?” Leaning against the wall, Radley stared at the man with a meaningful look on his handsome face.

The man trembled and stuttered, “I-I shouldn’t have said that! In fact, I’m the one with poor taste!”

Mikael had been friends with Radley for years, so he could tell that something was wrong with Radley’s expression.

Hurriedly, Mikael stepped forward and said to the two men who commented on Freya earlier, “You two, get lost now!”

As if they were pardoned, the two quickly apologized and bowed repeatedly while retreating to the door. They left.

The others saw that things were not right and dispersed too. Chris also asked the female escorts to leave. Soon, only Radley, Chris, and Mikael were left in the private room.

Chris played with the cards on the table, leisurely shuffling them in his hands. “Radley, do you want me to deal with that guy, Matthew?”

Radley closed his eyes and took a while to suppress the urge to kill.

“No need.” He promised Freya that he wouldn’t do anything to Matthew. If he did, she would be very

angry.

“That guy has got bills, Chris commented with a scoff and a fierce look in his eyes.

Leaning back in his chair, Radley responded, “He’s not who he appears to be. Last month, he got a deal from the Porters. If it goes well, the power of the Hood Group will rise to a new level.”

“Really?” Mikael looked up at him and joked, “With such praise from you, he must be formidable indeed.”

Something flashed through Radley’s gaze.

Meanwhile, Chris poured a glass of wine and said, “Alright. Let’s stop talking about those things. Wine, anyone?”

Radley stared at the red wine glass and suddenly remembered something very unpleasant. His brows furrowed, and he scolded, “Take it away!”
