ORTEGA: THE ALPHA’S HUMAN MATE

Chapter 23

ALPHA DERRICK’S CHAMBER

Derrick was standing by his window, smoking a stick of cigarette devilishly. He was bothered by his upcoming wedding with Felicia.

Marriage was the last thing on the list of things he wanted to do in life, but his father just changed everything, and he hated the fact that he couldn’t cancel the wedding even though he was the alpha.

He was thinking of how to stop the wedding from happening as he smoked his cigarette devilishly.

A knock at the door disrupted his thoughts, and he glanced at the door.

“Alpha, the head maid is here to see you.” He heard Ramos’s voice from outside the chamber.

“Let her in.” Derrick replied.

The door opened and Pamela stepped inside the chamber with Priscilla walking beside her.

“Greetings, alpha.” Priscilla bowed and greeted Derrick.

“Who is she?” Derrick asked Pamela as he stared at Priscilla while smoking his cigarette.

“She is Ortega’s best friend.” Pamela replied, and Priscilla lowered her head nervously.

“You can leave, Pamela. I’ll send for you when I need you.” Derrick said, and Pamela bowed before walking out of the chamber.

It now remained Priscilla and the alpha king in the chamber. That made her so nervous that her palms became sweaty even though the room had a conditioning system which was working perfectly.

Derrick watched her from where he stood as he smoked his cigarette. He could notice how nervous she was and he knew why she was nervous.

Standing in a room with someone as powerful and domineering as him was enough to make anyone tremble, and that is the reason why Priscilla was nervous.

The chamber was silent as none of them said a word. Derrick was still standing by the window, smoking his cigarette and his gaze was fixed on Priscilla.

The silence in the chamber was killing Priscilla and she was silently praying that Derrick should at least say a word in order to break the silence.

She didn’t know the reason why Derrick sent for her, and that was one of the many easons why she was nervous.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

“So, you’re a friend of Ortega, right?” Derrick finally broke the silence as he began walking towards her.

“Ye… yes, alpha.” Priscilla replied with her head lowered.

“What’s your name?” He asked.

“Pr… Priscilla. My name.. my name is Priscilla.” She stuttered.

“Do you know where Ortega is?” Derrick inquired as he finally stood in front of her.

“No, alpha.” Priscilla shook her head negatively with her head lowered. She was scared to look at Derrick’s face because he might kill her if she does that.

“Look at me.” Derrick commanded, and she slowly raised her head to look at his face. Her body shook with fear when she saw his dangerous yet handsome face.

“You don’t know where Ortega is?” Derrick asked, peering into her

“No.” Ortega shook her head vigorously. She was fiddling with her finger and her heart was pounding fast due to the closeness between her and the alpha.

“I thought you guys are friends, and friends should know each others whereabouts, am I right?” Derrick asked as he puffed out smoke from his mouth.

“Yes, alpha.” Priscilla nodded.

“So why don’t you know your friend’s whereabouts?” Derrick questioned.

“Actually, we were in our room….”

“You both share a room?” Derrick cut her off.

“Yes alpha, Ortega and I are roommates.” Priscilla replied.

“The both of you are roommates?” Derrick inquired with furrowed brows.

“Yes, alpha. We are roommates.” Priscilla answered.

“So, how come you don’t know where she is when the both of you are roommates?” Derrick asked.

“We were eating dinner in our room when one of the maids came inform me that the head maid needed me in the kitchen. I left Ortega in the room and I went to the kitchen where my attention was needed. When I came back to the room, I couldn’t find Ortega. I asked almost every maid in the maids’ quarter but none of them saw her.” Priscilla explained.

“So, what you’re trying to say is that you left Ortega in the room the both of you shared, but you couldn’t find her in the room when you came back, right?” Derrick asked, and Priscilla nodded.

“Yes, alpha.” She replied.

“What’s the name of the maid who came to call you when you were eating dinner with Ortega?” Derrick asked.

“Her name is….”

A knock at the door interrupted Priscilla before she could complete her statement.

“Alpha, a maid named Roxanne wants to speak with you.” Came Ramos’s voice from outside the room. “Should I let her in or do otherwise?”

Derrick took a long pufff from his cigarette before speaking, “Let her in.”

‘Why does Roxanne want to tell the alpha?’ Priscilla thought to herself as she heard the door opening, then she heard footsteps approaching her from behind.

Roxanne wondered what Priscilla and the alpha were discussing. She knew Ortega and Priscilla are friends, and she became that Priscilla might found out that she was the cause of Ortega’s disappearance.

“Good evening, alpha.” Roxanne greeted Derrick with a bow as she stood beside Priscilla.

“Who are you?” Derrick asked as he drew in hard on his

“My name is Roxanne and I’m one of palace maids.” Roxanne answered.

“And why are you here?” Derrick inquired.

“I… I came to report a case to you.” Roxanne answered.

“A case?” Derrick raised a questioning brow at her.

“Yes, alpha.” Roxanne replied and a lump formed in her throat.

“What case?” Derrick asked with a cautious curiousity.

“Uh….. One of… one of the maids is.. is missing.” Roxanne stuttered.

Priscilla glanced at Roxanne immediately she heard her statement.

“And what’s the name of the missing maid?” Derrick inquired.

“Her name is… Umm… Ortega.” Roxanne replied.

Derrick’s interest was piqued when he heard that Ortega was the missing maid.

“Seems like this maid knows something about how Ortega got the confirmation card which gave her the free passage out of the palace.” Derrick said inwardly as he blew out smoke from his mouth.

He threw his cigarette on the ground and he crushed it with his bare feet.

“Pour me a glass of wine from the bar over there.” Derrick said to Priscilla as he pointed at the inbuilt bar in his chamber.

Priscilla hurriedly walked over to the bar, filled a glass with wine, then she walked back to Derrick and she respectfully but cautiously handed the glass of wine to him.

Derrick collected it from her and he walked to the nearest couch. He sat on it and crossed his leg with his gaze fixed on the two maids standing in front of him.

He took a sip from the wine before speaking,

“You,” he pointed at Roxanne. “How did you know that the maid named Ortega is missing?”

“Actually, we both went out of the palace an hour ago and….”

“Hold up.” Derrick cut in. “You and Ortega went out of the palace this night?”

“Y… yes alpha.” Roxanne replied nervously.

She was already getting scared but she didn’t make it obvious. She kept a straight face so as not to raise suspicions.

“So, you said the both of you went out of the palace, right?” Derrick asked after taking another sip from his wine.

“Yes, alpha.” Roxanne replied.

“How did you get out of the palace?” Derrick asked. “I mean, did you fly over the fence or what? because there’s no way my guards would allow you to go out of the palace without a confirmation card, and I’m so sure you are not one of the people in the palace who have a confirmation card. So how did you get out of the palace?”

“The truth is, I…. I stole it from the head maid.” Roxanne replied with a borrowed courage.

“You stole a confirmation card from the head maid?” Derrick repeated with a smirk across his face.

“Ye… yes.” Roxanne nodded and hung her head low to avoid Derrick’s gaze.

“And why did you steal the confirmation card?” Derrick asked.

“I stole it because I wanted to give Ortega a tour around the kingdom.” Roxanne answered.

“And why did you want to give Ortega a tour around the kingdom?” Derrick inquired.

“Because she has always wanted to see what the kingdom looks like ever since she go to the palace.” Roxanne replied, trying her best to compose herself so as not to make the alpha suspicious.

“And what do you care if she has always wanted to see what the kingdom looks like?” Derrick questioned.

“Because she is my friend.” Roxanne replied confidently, and Priscilla glanced at her with a shocked expression on her face.

“Oh, so you and the human are friends, right?” Derrick asked.

“Yes.” Roxanne nodded. “We’ve been friends since she joined the maids.”

“In summary, what you’re trying to say is that you stole a confirmation card from the head maid so that you can give your human friend a tour around the kingdom, right?” Derrick asked. with a smirk across his face.

“Yes, alpha.” Roxanne nodded.

“So, where is your human friend now?” Derrick asked, even though he knew Ortega was in the royal clinic. He was just questioning Roxanne because he wanted to know how Ortega ended up in the alleyway where she would have been raped if he didn’t show up.

“She… she got…. She got lost while we were touring the kingdom.” Roxanne replied and she swallowed the lump in her throat.

“The human got lost while you were showing her around the kingdom?”

Roxanne immediately went on her knees and she clasped her hands together in a pleading manner, then she started crying.

“Alpha, I know what I did was wrong, but please I want you to send some guards to find Ortega. I’m ready to serve any punishment you give me, but please help me find Ortega. Please.” She begged as tears streamed down her face.

‘Is this really the Roxanne I know or an impersonator?’ Priscilla thought to herself as she stared at Roxanne. She was surprised to see Roxanne crying and pleading.

The Roxanne she knew was proud bitch that would never cry nor beg, but seeing her crying right now gave Priscilla the impression that Roxanne was telling the truth.

Roxanne’s story made sense to Derrick, but he still felt like she was lying. He felt like there was more to her story

Why would she want to show someone around the kingdom at night when she could have done it in the day?

A knock at the door disrupted Derrick’s thought.

“Alpha, a human named Ortega wants to see you.” Ramos said from outside the chamber.

Roxanne’s heart started beating when she heard that Ortega was outside the chamber.

Her plan would get ruined if Ortega come inside the chamber. The truth would be revealed.

Roxanne started praying in her mind that the alpha should send Ortega back. She prayed silently that alpha Derrick should not allow Ortega in or else she would be doomed.
