Chapter 108 New job
Chapter 108 New job
After walking out of the HR, Blanca came to the creative department. Anna Gregor was the department
manager. She, about thirty, looked pretty smart.
Anna arranged Blanca’s desk and said, “It’s your first day in our department. I am not going to assign
you tasks, but you should read this employee handbook first.”
“OK.” Blanca nodded and took the handbook. Then she sat at her desk and read it carefully. Before
long, she was getting sleepy. She tried her best to remember the contents in the book, but she found
she got a memory like a sieve.
At the end of the day, Anna asked Blanca to do a summary for the day’s work. Blanca nodded
obediently. She was not so good at writing, as well as using a computer. For this reason, while
everyone else was off work, she was still typing.
It was getting dark, but Blanca’s work was not yet done. She looked anxious for she was not good at
typing. She felt a little angry with herself, but she didn’t stop what she was doing. Several hours later,
when she finished her last document, she rubbed her eyes and stretched to relax.
“Are you finished?” said a voice behind her.
Blanca looked around, and saw Matthew standing near her. In the lamplight of the office, Matthew’s
face was gentler. “Why are you here?” asked Blanca brightly.
“This is my company.”
“Oh! Silly me!” Blanca said awkwardly. She had heard something about Matthew from Curtis before. He
said Matthew was a workaholic. Except for work, he was not interested in anything.
After clearing her desk, Blanca stood up and said, “I’m finished. It’s time to get off.”
“You definitely should have already been gone.” Matthew looked around the empty office and looked
displeased.
Blanca smiled awkwardly. “I’m sorry I forgot to take a look at the time.”
Matthew didn’t speak. His time was important but he had been waiting ten minutes here.
When they walked out the door together, Blanca couldn’t control her curiosity and asked, “You’ve been All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
waiting for me?” She didn’t know how long he stood there. He didn’t interrupt her work and just stood
quietly. At this thought, Blanca felt warm in her heart and her face broke into a radiant smile.
“I’m not waiting for you,” Matthew said stubbornly.
“Eh? Then what were you doing?
“I was enjoying the views,” Matthew said and walked quickly down the stairs.
What? It was not a perfect lie! Blanca smiled even more widely. Then she hurried to catch up with him
and slipped her arm through his, sort of subconsciously. “Are you shy? Ha-ha! Don’t deny it. I know you
were waiting for me. I didn’t expect you are so kind and thoughtful behind the mask of arrogance,”
Blanca said, with a broad smile on her face.
Matthew made no reply. He tried to withdraw his arms, but when he saw Blanca’s smiling face, he
paused. Since Blanca appeared in his life, everything was more exciting and more fun.
“Hey. Why are you so quiet? OK. I’ll take that as an acknowledgment,” said Blanca, still laughing.
They were on the way to an underground parking lot. Blanca smiled and hopped joyfully and Matthew
seemed to enjoy her enthusiasm and vitality, if not unexpectedly.
Then, Matthew strode straight to his car and disappeared from view.
“Blanca!” A voice suddenly echoed behind Blanca. Next second, Todd run toward Blanca and pulled
her into his tight embrace. Blanca got a shock and tried to pull away from him, but he was so strong
that she could barely move. She could smell the whiskey on Todd’s breath.
“Get off me! Get off me, Todd!” Blanca called, at the top of her voice. The drunk Todd made her feel
scared.
Todd didn’t relax his grip. He had too much wine and had waited a long time. At the moment, he had
lost his minds. He put his head in Blanca’s neck and said in a low voice, “Forgive me, Blanca! Will you
come back to me? I can’t live without you, and I thought I could fight it, but I can’t. I have bought us a
house. Let’s get married, OK?”
“Get married?” sneered Blanca. No one could help her now. Matthew was her only hope but he had
gone to the parking lot. Blanca tried to calm herself down. “Remember! You had married Kylie!”
“I am going to divorce her,” Todd said loudly.
