Chapter 242: I Am His Wife
Chapter 242: I Am His Wife
Kevin’s sincere confession could be witnessed by everyone present.
Hayden had previously always questioned his sincerity towards Alayna, but he had taken care of Alayna for the past few months. Now he had even put down his high status to accompany Alayna to America for her treatment. Even though they were only dating, it was already considered great benevolence.
She thought if she was Alayna, she wouldn’t be able to reject him this time too.
But Alayna was Alayna, even under Kevin’s sugar-coated and sincere attack, she remained firm on her grounds. Brimming with tears, she rejected Kevin,
“I’m sorry, I can’t accept you.”
Hearing this, Kevin’s eyes clearly showed disappointment, his raised hands which were holding the ring hung in mid-air, unsure whether to retract it or continue holding it. Even Hayden who was watching felt a pang of awkwardness.
Alayna inhaled deeply, eerily calm,
“Look at me now, I am already happy if you are willing to accompany me. To be honest, I wasn’t even willing to let you accompany me to America. My life has already turned out into this uncontrollable way, no one knows what will happen tomorrow. But you are different from me, you have no responsibility towards me, why loop yourself into all these?”
These words were said rationally, but a listening Hayden felt sorry for Kevin. After so much hard work, Alayna still couldn’t completely trust him and let him take full care of her body and heart.
Even Hayden felt upset, what’s more Kevin.
“I… I understand.” Kevin retracted the ring, and said softly, “No worries, I can wait, wait for you to recover.”
The mood was sombre, everyone was immersed in the regretful situation. Only Edison who was calm, looked at the time and reminded them, “Time is running late, you guys should head for security check.”
Among everyone who were immersed in the emotional situation, Edison appeared exceptionally calm and collected. His voice had a soothing quality for everyone.
Hayden held Alayna’s hand, “No matter what decision you make, I will always support you, but you have to remember, I hope that you live on bravely, you still have many places you haven’t visited, many great food you haven’t tasted. You told me before that you wanted to experience and taste everything and anything in this world.”
Alayna nodded her head, “I know.”
“Take care of her,”
Hayden placed Alayna’s hand in Kevin’s, “Time will change everything, maybe one day…”
She didn’t finish her sentence, but she knew Kevin would understand her words, time will change everything, perseverance will lead to results.
“Yes, I understand.” Kevin took Alayna’s hand from Hayden, glanced at Edison and said, “Then we will head for security check now, you guys have a chat.”
Kevin and Alayna entered security check. Edison turned around and retrieved a blue-grey suede box from his pocket and handed it to Hayden.
“This is for you.”
Hayden laughed and took the box from Edison.
Standing by the side, Joseph’s face sank.
Edison took a look at Hayden, “There are many things I have to settle this time I’m headed back, there’ll be some time before I can come back to visit you, please take care of yourself.”
“Yes, I know.”
Hayden nodded her head, “Stella had to go to school today, if not, I would have brought her to send you off.”
“No worries at all, plenty of time in the future.”
Edison’s eyes were quiet and dark, “If Stella has any health issues, drop me a call immediately. I will get my friend in America to contact a doctor that is specialized in this area, the next time I’m there I’ll send Stella there for a check-up.”
“Sure.”
While both of them were still talking, the faint voice of Joseph said,
“The plane is taking off.” Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Hayden turned around and saw Joseph standing as straight as a pole two steps away from her, with one hand raised, looking at Edison with a blank expression,
“You were rushing Kevin and Hayden just now, but it’s your turn now and you don’t seem to be in a hurry at all?”
Hayden frowned, Joseph didn’t use to talk so much.
“Mr Beckham, thanks for your kind reminder. I was reminding Kevin and Hayden not to delay their boarding time, not because I was worried they would miss the plane, but I was more worried on them missing their hospitalization timing. There are limited beds in the rehabilitation centre, if they’re late, there will be a problem with getting a suitable private room. So, it doesn’t matter at all whether I catch the plane on time.”
Edison’s calm expression and patient manner in speaking were a stark contrast to Joseph.
Joseph’s eyes sank, “Then from what I understand, does this mean that you are actually not intending to leave?”
Wasn’t he picking a fight? Hayden’s frown deepened, “What’s up with you Joseph?”
“Just asking, don’t misunderstand.” Joseph took a look at her, previous incidents had taught him a lesson, so he was trying his best to suppress his anger.
Edison’s eyes brightened, and there was a hint of laughter in his eyes, and he said slowly,
“I really don’t feel like leaving. I was only back a short time this round, I spent too much time working and hadn’t spent enough time with Stella, and I couldn’t even help in Hayden’s company’s issues. But in the interest of Kevin and Alayna, I think Mr Beckham, you will help out right?”
Edison’s words were meaningful, but difficult to understand the deeper meaning to it.
From Hayden’s point of view, Edison was courteous and simply making some polite remarks to Joseph.
But from Joseph’s standpoint, this was Edison plainly proclaiming his territory. Instead of saying that Joseph would help out in the interest of Hayden, he was instead saying that he should help out only in the interests of Kevin and Alayna. It was clear what his intention was from that sentence.
Thinking deeper into it, Edison was also avoiding talking about his relationship with Hayden in the past.
On the issue of women, men can usually tell whether this is a friend or foe, simply from a look at the guy. What’s more they had exchanged such a long conversation.
According to Joseph, Edison was definitely a foe.
“Of course.” Joseph’s eyes were dark, looking at Edison he added a little bit of pressure to his words, “Let’s not speak about the past. Even if we’re not looking at Kevin and Alayna’s interests, I will also look in the best interests of Stella and Noah and take care of Hayden well.”
I thought we weren't going there anymore, but he still brought it up.
You have plan A, I too have plan B.
Edison’s face remained unchanged, his cheerful and smooth voice was crisp and clear, “Children get along very easily, what’s more they are of the same age. Stella also has a very lovable personality, she can get along with everyone.”
“Apart from this reason, it is also mainly because my son really likes Hayden.”
The two of them were exchanging back and forth for a long time. A listening Hayden was getting more and more confused, “Are you guys doing a meet-the-parent session? You’re even talking about the kids now? Edison, you don’t have to be polite to him, go head for your security check, you’re going to be late.”
Edison gave a small smile, “Alright then, I’ll head off now.”
Hayden waved at Edison’s back, “Drop me a text to let me know you’re safe once you arrive.”
Edison waved his hand in agreement.
Joseph who was standing by the side, had his brows furrowed till the lines on his forehead formed a railway track. His cold voice contained a hint of unhappiness,
“Are you his mum? Why does he even need to report to you when he gets off the plane?”
Hayden took a look at him, and replied faintly, “I am his wife.”
