Chapter 51: How Much Did She Wish to Get Married?
When Alayna said in a calm tone that ‘she must have taken a liking to him’, Hayden felt as if there was a piece of rock inside her body, and it hit the ground after she heard Alayna’s words. Her mind was completely blown when she thought about it. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
How could that be?
“Also, there’s no pure friendship between men and women. Joseph is the young president of the ST Group. Such a busy man like him acted as though he got nothing to do and helped you take care of your child, so I couldn’t find any other reason to explain his actions except him liking you too. It’s as simple as that.”
“It’s because Noah likes the food that I make.”
“Then, he surely plans to let you serve him your entire life.”
“That’s impossible.”
Alayna ignored Hayden’s words and laughed sarcastically at her denial, just like a winner feeling smug at her win. She didn’t care about the loser’s feeling at all or her explanation that it was due to she was not in a good mood today.
Hayden couldn’t sleep that night. She kept thinking about Alayna saying that she had taken a liking to him, and the interactions that they made during this period of time.
She got up in the middle of the night to have a cup of water. As she walked past the living room, she saw the brand new tea set that was on the table. She recalled that the cups at home previously were a little cracked. She told Joseph to bear with it while drinking, and the next day, he brought this new tea set to her apartment.
Not only this tea set, Joseph always brought something over for her during this period of time. The things that he brought almost occupied every corner of her apartment.
Hayden held the cup in her hand as her heart pounded in a mess.
...
The next morning, Hayden received a text from Joseph on her way to work.
“I’ve sent Stella to school. Don’t worry.”
She toughly typed out a ‘thanks’ as she was squeezed in the subway. The corner of her lips slowly tipped into a smile that she didn’t even realize.
Alayna stayed at Hayden’s house after returning from her business trip. Joseph didn’t even bother to evade her and often came for dinner.
On the very first day, Alayna asked so many questions about his family backgrounds. Hayden felt awkward listening to their conversation in the kitchen to the point where she wanted to come out of the kitchen and knocked her head off with a spoon so that she could shut up.
Fortunately, she wasn’t at home every day. She had her own design studio and she lived a busy life. It was considered as a relaxing thing that she could at least eat at home once in a week.
During the night, Hayden closed the door of Stella’s bedroom.
Alayna was taking a rest on the sofa. She put on a facial mask while playing with her cell phone. When she saw Hayden coming out of the room, she immediately got up and asked, “I heard my assistant gossiping in the studio today, saying that Joseph and Viola are getting married?”
“Yeah.” Hayden looked calm as she took a sip of water.
“Wow.” Alayna frowned, “Then, why did he come here so eagerly every day? Isn’t he two-timing you?”
“Which part of him looked eager to you? Besides, I’ve already told you that I’m just his subordinate. You’re the one who doesn’t believe me.”
Hayden rolled her eyes at Alayna, but as soon as she turned around, a slight disappointment flashed on her face.
After she calmed herself down, she tried to rationalize her thoughts. He would be getting married soon, how could he have feelings for her?
Alayna was about to ask something when Hayden’s phone rang. She took a glance at her screen display and hung up directly.
“Why aren’t you picking up?”
“It’s just advertisement.”
After saying this, Hayden took the clothes from the washing machine to the balcony for drying. She was obviously feeling dejected.
The phone on the table lit up again as a text notification popped out.
Alayna got up from the sofa and she could see a part of the message content.
“The engagement party will be held this Saturday. Don’t forget, Hayden. Kingsley and I are...”
As soon as she saw Kingsley’s name, she narrowed her eyes.
If she remembered correctly, wasn’t this the name of Hayden’s ex that Hayden accidentally revealed to her when they had a drink overseas?
So the person who sent this text... must be that shameless friend of Hayden who snatched her man away!
Hayden walked out from the balcony after she had finished hanging the clothes. When she noticed Alayna was still sitting on the sofa, she reminded, “Why haven’t you remove your facial mask? It’s almost dry.”
“It doesn’t matter.” Alayna crossed her arms and sat rigidly, “Come here, sit down.”
“What do you want?” Hayden laughed at her serious look, “Don’t try to pull a prank on me in the middle of the night.”
“What’s this?”
Alayna pulled out a red invitation card from behind and placed it on the coffee table.
After reading the text, Alayna found this on the coffee table, underneath a pile of magazines. It must have been a few days since she received it.
The invitation card was unsightly bright that it made Hayden frown, “How did you find this out?”
“I was looking for a magazine, but I found this instead. If I didn’t recall wrongly, the groom here was the shameless scumbag who dumped you for your best friend?”
Alayna couldn’t help rolling her eyes when she mentioned Kingsley, “I thought they were getting married. I was dumbfounded when I opened this bright red invitation card and realized it was just for an engagement ceremony. How much exactly did she wish to get married?”
Hayden said helplessly, “That’s their problem.”
“The question is, what are you planning to do?”
“I’m not planning to attend.” Hayden expressed her attitude clearly.
“Why?” Alayna got up from the sofa, “This is a great opportunity to seek revenge. I’ve thought about it, I would make you a customized evening gown myself and made sure you looked extremely captivating. I must make that scumbag regret his actions and break up with that woman, admitting that he is blind at that time.”
“You don’t have to. It’s all in the past now.”
Hayden shrugged her shoulders as she didn’t care about it, “How they are living right now has nothing to do with me. I don’t want to go and see them.”
“If you say that, it means you’re still holding a grudge against them. Aren’t you suffocating yourself? That man hasn't given you any explanation about the things that have happened in the past.”
Hayden was in a complicated mood when she mentioned this.
Of course, she felt suffocated. If Kingsley hadn’t cheated on her, she wouldn’t have become a surrogate mother out of nowhere.
“Besides, I’ve already promised on your behalf.”
Alayna blinked her eyes as she was feeling self-righteous.
“What did you promise?” Hayden’s face became stiff. She saw her phone on the table and quickly turned it on to have a look. Michelle’s text was followed by a reply, “Oh, you’re the one who called me? I thought it was an insurance agent though, since you called every day. I’ve received the invitation, of course I would go. After all, it’s my best friend’s wedding. I’ll be there on time.”
“Alayna!” Hayden was pissed. She picked up a pillow behind her and threw it towards Alayna.
“Anyway, I already made a promise. I don’t care anymore. Besides, if you don’t want to attend, you can call her back anytime.”
Alayna removed her facial mask and got up from the other side of the sofa barefooted. She ran into her room, and tried to annoy her as she muttered through the door, “That little bitch must have thought you wouldn’t dare to go. If you don’t go, you’re the one that’s going to feel humiliated.”
Hayden was so pissed that she couldn’t say anything, and a message popped out on her phone, “I’ll wait and see then.”
She could literally see Michelle’s smug face through the phone screen.
Hayden clenched her phone and suddenly changed her mind. She looked towards Alayna’s room and shouted, “Who says I’m not going? I’ve decided to go now, so you’ll have to start preparing my evening gown.”
