Chapter 48
Nesta’s POV
The night wore on, my worry for Elara deepened. Her breathing had become rapid, each inlule and exhale more laboured than the last. Her skin, usually warm with the healthy flush of life, now radiated an intense hear, alarming in its intensity.
I leaned over her, my hand trembling as I placed it gently on her forehead. The fever was unmistakable, a blazing hear that seemed to burn through her, and a stark reminder that even werewolves were not immune to illness.
“Elara,” I whispered, my voice cracking with concern. “You need to wake up. Please, wake up.”
But she remained unresponsive, her breaths coming in shallow, quick bursts. Panic surged through me, a wild, uncontrollable fear that tightened my chest and made my hands shake.
I had always thought werewolves were nearly invincible, their bodies resilient and quick to heal. But seeing Elara like this, so vulnerable and fragile, shattered that illusion. I was at a loss, unsure of how to help her or what to do next.
Desperation clawed at me as I glanced around the room, secking something, anything, that might bring her some relief. I grabbed a cloth, soaked it in cool water, and gently dabbed her forehead and cheeks, hoping to bring her fever down.
“Please, Elara,” I murmured my voice a soft plea. Fight this. You have to fight this
I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. She had become such an integral part of my life, her strength and kindness a beacon of hope in my darkest moments. The idea of a world without her was unbearable.
With trembling hands, I continued to tend to her, my mind racing with worry and fear. Fher condition didn’t improve soon, I would have to call for more help.
But for now, all I could do was stay by her side, haping my presence might somehow bring her comfort and the strength to overcome this.
As the night stretched on, I stayed vigilant, my heart heavy with concern, praying for Elara to pull through and for her fever to break
An hour passed, and slowly miraculously, Elira’s breathing began to steady. The fever that had burned so fiercely seemed to ebb, leaving her looking more at peace. I exhaled a long, shaky breath, relief fleading through me.
Elara stimed, her eyelids fluttering open as the slowly regained consciousness. She looked up at me with a mixture of confusion and concert.
“Why do you look so worried?” she asked, her voice soft and slightly hoarse,
I hesitated, unsure of how to explain everything. “It’s all about you.” I replied, trying to keep my volce steady. “You were burning up, and your breathing was so fast, I didn’t know what to do.”
She studied me for a moment, then shook her head gently. There’s something more you’re not selling me
1 bit my lip, unsure how to respond. The truth was, she was right. My worry extended beyond her fever. It was tangled up with everything that had been happening–Nolan’s sudden appearance, iny conflicted feelings, the looming threats from all sides.
“Elara, I=“I started, but she interrupted me with a small, reassuring smile.
“It’s okay,” she said softly. “I’m fine now. You don’t have to carry everything alone.”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Her words were a balm to my frayed nerves, yet they also brought a sense of guilt. Here she was, just recovering from a fever, and still offering
comfort to mht.
I sighed and nodded. “Alright. But if you feel unwell again, promise me you’ll let me know immediately”
Elara squeered my hand weakly but reassuringly. “I promise. And you promise to tell me if anything’s bothering you, okay? We’re in this together.”
I managed a small smile. “Okay. We’re in this together.”
I carefully measured out the medicine, making sure to get the dosage just right. Elara watched me with tired eyes as 1 gently brought the spoon to her lips. She swallowed the liquid without complaint, her gaze never leaving mine.
“Thank you” she murmured, her voler still weak.
“You’re welcome,” I replied softly. I adjusted her blanken, making sure she was comfortable. “You need to rest”
Elara’s hand reached out and grabbed mine. “Tell me,” she said, her eyes searching mine. Tell me your story, right from when you left the last pack
Thesitated for a moment, the memories flooding back. But she needed a distraction, and maybe I needed to share my burden.
I don’t want to tell her about Nolan and Rowan just yet. So instead I changed the name of their pack to the one I left then decided where the story should begin
“Alright,” I began, settling down beside her. “It was a dark night when I left the Red Moon Pack. The air was cold, and I remember feeling a mix of fear and exhilaration as I crossed the boundary. For the first time in a long while. I was free. Or at least, I thought I was”
Elara’s eyes were on me, intent and encouraging, so I continued.
me or
“I travelled through the woods for days, avoiding any signs of civilization. I didn’t want to risk running into anyone who might recogn send me back. It was tough. I found out I was expecting. I barely had any food, and the nights were freezing. But I kept going, driven by the hope of finding a place where I could start over.”
I paused, collecting my thoughts before continuing. Eventually, I stumbled upon a small, secluded town. I tried to blend in, taking odd jobs here and there to survive. It wasn’t much, but it was better than being under constant threat”
Elara’s grip on my hand tightened slightly, her eyes filled with sympathy and understanding
“During that time. I learned a lot about myself.” I said, my voice softening. “I discovered strengths I didn’t know I had. But I also realised how much I missed having a pack, a family. That’s when I heard about Crescent Moon Pack and their reputation for hospitality. It sounded like a place where I could finally belong.”
Elara nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. “And then you came here.”
“Yes,” I replied, my voice thick with emotion. “I found a place that welcomed me, where I could be myself without fear. But even here, I couldn’t escape my pas entirely.”
She squeezed my hand again, her expression determined despite her weakened state. “You’re safe here. We’ll face whatever comes together.”
I smiled, grateful for her support. “Thank you, Elara. That means more to me than you know
She closed her eyes, her breathing evening out as she started to drift back to sleep. “Get some rest, I whispered, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. “1” be right here,”
As she slept, I sat beside her, my mind wandering back to the journey that had brought me here. It had been a along, painful road, but as that moment, sitting beside Elara, I felt a flicker of hope. Maybe, just maybe, things would finally start to get better.
Maybe, just maybe Nolan won’t achieve his goal.
