Rewriting My Heart's Fate

I clenched my jaw, steeling myself to confront Richard. We threw punches at each other, the heavy thuds of each hit ringing through the ward.

He was definitely trained. He moved like lightning, almost blocking every move I tried to make. I had no choice but to defend. Sweat beaded up on my forehead. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Rowan slowly getting back on his feet, his eyes blazing with anger. The situation was getting worse for me by the second.

Just then, Ethan shouted, "Evelyn, forget about me! Just go! They're after me! Don't get yourself involved!"

His words cut through me. How could I possibly leave him? But if this went on, Ethan was as good as dead.

It seemed like there was no way out. I had to fight with everything in me.

I braced myself and waited for my chance. When Richard threw a straight punch, I ducked and sank my teeth into his belly. He let out a grunt before crashing to the floor.

I seized the moment and lunged for the door, reaching for the handle. My fingers were almost there when Rowan grabbed a chair and swung it at me.

I thought I was doomed and instinctively closed my eyes. But the pain I was bracing for never came. Instead, there was a sickening thud as the chair landed on flesh.

I opened my eyes and gasped in horror. Ethan had thrown himself in front of me, using his body to shield me. The impact sent him crashing down, blood pouring from his wound and pooling on the floor. "No!" I screamed, the sound tearing through me.

I dropped to my knees beside Ethan, my tears falling uncontrollably. He lay there, eyes closed and face ashen, looking completely lifeless.

Out of nowhere, something crashed into my back. The pain was so overwhelming that I thought my bones might have cracked.

I turned and glared at Rowan, still holding the bloodstained chair. I wanted to rise and fight, but my body wouldn't listen. I kept trying but couldn't make it.

"Crush her head!" Richard spat from behind Rowan.

I watched as Rowan raised the chair over his head again, but I was too weak to fight back.

All of a sudden, Leonard burst through the door, followed by a squad of armed police. Their guns were locked onto Richard and Rowan.

"Freeze!"

Richard and Rowan were frozen in

shock. They barely had time to react before the officers knocked them to the ground and held them there.

It turned out that while I was focused on waking Ethan up, Leonard had already called the police and set up an ambush outside.

The second Richard and Rowan walked into the ward, the police quickly closed in and trapped them in place.

I looked at Ethan on the floor, concern written all over my face. "Ethan, are you alright?"

He nodded weakly, a small, reassuring smile crossing his face.

"How could I possibly leave you?" I murmured.

After Richard and Rowan were taken by the police, the ward finally settled into peace.

I clutched Ethan's hand, tears falling uncontrollably. "Ethan, I'm sorry. nearly got you killed... I was involved with those assholes before. I don't even know what I was thinking."

He gave a weak smile. "I'm not that easy to kill."

"B-But I promised you, remember?

said we'd have a lifetime toget

and look at what I've done..." I, choked out. "I've caused you so much pain."

Ethan shook his head slightly. With all his strength, he lifted his hand to wipe my tears away.
