Rift in the perfect picture

Chapter 415

Nicholas answered the phone relatively quickly, and the beeping sound was quickly replaced with a deep

voice.

“Claudia, how was it?”

It’s been about a month since I last heard his voice, but the emotions in his voice were still unmistakably

clear.

His voice was anxious and filled with concern. I could tell he was very worried about his precious darling

sister.

Claudia smiled brightly, but for some reason, I found her smile irritating. Nicholas always sounded cold and impassive whenever he talked to me. No matter how gentle his voice was, I was never able to hear any emotions from his tone.

But now, I realized that he was different when he talked to Claudia. His tone was filled with warmth and emotions. I fell silent as I listened while Claudia continued to flirt with Nicholas.

She answered, “Nick, I’m doing good, but working full–time is so tiring. Why don’t I just stop working and you can just ask Ms. Gardner to sign her name on the documents I need to complete my internship?”

I looked away. All I could do was endure it as I did want to speak to Nicholas. I wanted to ask him when he would be back so that we could get on with a divorce.

Douglas patted my shoulder, asking me if I wanted to leave using his eyes, but I shook my head.

Nicholas had the right to be with anyone he wanted once we got a divorce. Not to mention, other people would just say that “they’re just siblings“. I had no grounds to argue

Nicholas and I were destined to get a divorce. It would be too pitiful of me if I were to break down just from listening to him talk to another woman on the phone.

Truly letting go wasn’t just about pretending to be fine, yet refusing to speak about it. Letting go was about being filled with a sense of ease and relief in one’s heart.

On the other end, Nicholas had frozen momentarily as he never thought Claudia would talk about that. But he felt that it would be embarrassing for him if he sounded too anxious to hear about how I was doing.

So, he pretended that he did not care, acting like a normal person even though he was slowly losing it deep down.

He answered, “Are you giving up so soon? Weren’t you the one who insisted on entering the company? Didn’t you even say that you would be able to help me?

“I never thought it would be that tiring. Not to mention, Ms. Gardner is always so strict with me. She doesn’t let me do this and that! It’s so annoying!”

I tried my best to block out their call, but his voice was so nostalgic that it kept drilling itself into my mind.

Back then, Nicholas had also told me that he wanted me to join Hawk Corporations. That way, I would still be able to help him even when he grew old…

Nicholas and I had been through so much together. Up until the end, our love and hatred for each other

had intertwined so deeply that it could not be unraveled.

But if he knew that Frances was the one who had killed our child, would he still be able to treat them so well? Would he be able to give up on his “mother” to avenge our dead child? I didn’t think he could.

My heart grew cold as I hid my hands and clenched them tightly into fists. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.

Nicholas‘ voice was filled with adoration as he said, “It’s up to you. You can just go and rest if you’re tired.

“Your documents won’t be a problem. I just wanted you to learn a few things. Otherwise, you won’t even know what you want to do after you graduate.”

Claudia continued to flirt with Nicholas, and I could almost imagine that Nicholas was right next to her as I watched her. If Nicholas was beside her right at that moment, she would probably cling onto him like a child.

After chatting a little while longer, Nicholas could not stand it anymore and asked, “Did you see anyone special in the company today?”

“Oh!” Claudia said as if she had suddenly remembered something. “I almost forgot! I’ve met Ariana. Nick, do

you want to speak to her?”
