Terrence scoffed in response. Trust her? Millie’s vows were utterly useless. When she married Winston, she had confidently declared that she wouldn’t lose. But in the end, she was still defeated. “Shoo! I’ll take care of Grandpa. You should head to work. Besides, you being here just annoys me!” Terrence grumbled while pushing Millie away.

Millie chuckled and said a few flattering words before leaving for work. She was aware that her father often expressed the opposite of what he meant.

Terrence loved her so much. How could he possibly find her annoying?

In fact, since Millie was young, he had never pushed her to pursue a specific career path, like becoming a designer or a renowned doctor. All he ever wanted was for her to be happy, healthy, and safe.

Unfortunately, her life had become a complete mess.

That night, Rachel asked Millie out for dinner.

“Hey, superstar! Why do you have so much free time today?” Millie teased.

Rachel pulled out a chair and gestured for Millie to sit. “How’s your grandpa?”

“He’s fine now,” Millie replied.

Rachel nodded. “I was bored at home, so I called you out to suffer through the boredom with me,” she said.

“Anyway, guess who I saw on my way here earlier?” Rachel asked Millie after taking a sip of water.

Millie sighed. “Your archnemesis?”

“Your archnemesis.” Rachel rolled her eyes.

Millie narrowed her eyes. “My archnemesis? That’s too vague. It could be anyone.”

“Pfft! Winston!” Rachel exclaimed while serving Millie a barbecue rib.

Millie paused mid–bite before letting out a sigh. “Yerwick City is huge. But somehow, we always

manage to run into each other.”

In the past, spotting a handsome man was a fleeting experience, and meeting him again was almost impossible.

“Maybe everyone’s circles are just this small,” Rachel reflected with a sigh.

She added, “But he was alone

day. If Joanna Were with him, I’d have given him a piece of my mind!”

Her indignant expression made Millie chuckle.

“Superstar, mind your image!” Millie reminded her

Rachel clicked her tongue, and suddenly, her phone rang. Her agent needed her to return immediately for urgent matters.

Millie sighed and waved dismissively. “Go on and attend to your matters, superstar.”

Rachel looked at her pitifully. “I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know something would come up at the last

minute.”

Millie scoffed in response. “Make it up to me soon!” she said.

“Alright, I’ll take my leave now.”

Rachel gave Millie a quick hug before hurrying away.

Millie stood by the window and watched as Rachel’s agent waited for her downstairs. With a hat and mask on, she hastily got into the car.

While many admired Rachel’s dazzling radiance, they had no idea about the numerous constraints she faced in private.

Millie sighed, ate a few more bites, and planned to return to the hospital to keep thu company.

But as soon as she opened the private room door she bumped into someone she knew.

“Millie?”

Millie looked up to see a woman in her 30s standing before her. She was clad in business attire, looking neat and tidy. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“Paisley?” Millie was somewhat surprised, too.

Paisley Davis then said, “What a coincidence to meet you here. My father and I have a dinner appointment. Why don’t you join us?”

“Huh?” Millie pointed to herself. “Me? Join you? I’m not sure about that.”

“Come on! Nothing’s wrong with that! Besides, you already know the person we’re meeting, Paisley said mysteriously.

With that, Millie found herself being led to the adjacent private room.

Only a middle–aged man was in the room, engrossed in reading documents.

“Dad, look who’s here,” Paisley announced with a grin.
