Even though Terrence had been talking to Millie, Winston knew those words had been meant for him.

Terrence’s words couldn’t have been clearer. He wanted them to hurry up and finalize their divorce so they could stop dragging things around.

“I know, Dad,” Millie said calmly.

Millie glanced at Winston, signaling for him to talk outside.

Winston followed Millie closely. She was dressed in a black dress with thick straps. Her long hair fell against her shoulders and contrasted against her fair skin, which also framed her collarbones.

Her wrists and back were still covered in white bandages. Winston still couldn’t help but feel a jolt when he thought about the injuries underneath them. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

“How stubborn must you be to come all the way here? I did tell you I wasn’t mad,” Millie said lazily. She randomly plucked a rose and began to carefully pick off its thorns.

Winston had already seen the roses planted everywhere when he came in. “Did Simon give you these?”

Millie glanced at him before gently sniffing the rose in her hand. “Sure,‘ she replied non– committedly.

If he wanted to think so, then so be it.

His expression darkened immediately when he heard that.

Simon was pretty flashy with his pursuits.

Millie walked him to the gates. Winston couldn’t help but chuckle and ask, “Are you chasing me out already?”

“Our humble abode is too small to house royalty such as yourself. I hope Mr. Greer understands,” Millie said with a smile that somehow seemed flirtatious.

Winston narrowed his eyes and looked at her. Was it because of him, or was she worried that Simon would see and that it would be too hard for her to explain?

He chuckled coldly and said, “You’re becoming more and more witty after leaving me, Ms. Caldwell.”

Millie leaned against the wall and reached out a hand to Winston.

Winston looked at the gift he was holding and said, “I don’t think it matters whether I give this to you

anymore.”

“What do you mean?” Millie didn’t understand.

He had been the one to ask her to come outside, but how he was backtrack and saying it was

useless. What was he getting up to?

These roses are so beautiful. Would you really be able to appreciate any other gifts after this?” Winston asked as his gaze darkened. His tone sounded as if he were mocking her.

Millie frowned. What did beautiful roses have to do whether he gave the gift and apologized on

Joanna’s behalf?

Was he jealous?

Why did she detect a hint of jealousy in his tone?

“If you don’t want to give it to me, fine. I never wanted it anyway,” Millie said with a sneer. She couldn’t help but feel annoyed.

He was the one who asked her to come outside, but now he was putting up a fuss about giving her the gift.

She never knew he was so bipolar.

Millie sighed, showing how speechless she was at his antics. Then, she turned and began to walk back home.

Winston immediately grabbed her arm. His grip showed how angry he was. Since when had she become so cold–hearted?

Why did she always walk away so decisively? Who did she learn that from?

“What is it now?” Millie glared at him. She was tired.

Winston didn’t know how to reply. What was it now?

Was she that desperate to get home?

Didn’t she used to want to spend every single hour next to him?

She had been the one to always ask if he could stay a little longer every time he went home.

Women were realistic creatures. There was a clear difference between love and hate for them.

Right as Winston was about to let her go, he heard her phone ring. Simon’s name flashed on the –

screen.

She picked up quickly and answered, “Simon?”

Winston wasn’t too far away, which meant he could hear the man on the other end ask, “Are your injuries doing okay? When are you going back to get your bandages changed?”

“The doctor said to go back in three days,” Millie said as she looked down and kicked around some pebbles.

Winston stared at her unconscious habit and suddenly thought about something Jake had said - before. He talked about how when someone was calling the person they loved, they wanted everyone

and everything around them to know.

Was Millie in love with Simon, then?

“Okay. I’ll go to your house in the moming and take you to the hospital to get your bandages changed,” Simon said gently.

Winston heard every single word he said.
