Chapter 69 I Need to Give An Explanation to the Outside World
The next day.
Amanda was awakened by the phone call.
“Hello!”
She picked up the phone in a daze and heard Joleen’s voice, “Why are you still sleeping?”
“Joleen? You came back from a business trip?”
“I saw the news as soon as I came back. You are famous this time.”
“What news?”
“I’ve sent it to you. Take a look at it yourself.”
Unaware of what was happening, Amanda saw Joleen’s news on her phone and abruptly came to her senses.
Early in the morning, there were photos of her, Iverson, and Halley going to the police station the night before on Twitter.
“Iverson Byran, the President of the Byran Group, Fought with a Man for a Mysterious Woman Late at Night.”
Although Amanda and Halley had been pixelated, it was better than nothing. Anyone who had seen Amanda and Halley could recognize them at a glance.
In particular, Halley was one of the “Four Young Masters” in Ducco, and many people knew him.
The comments were boiling with rage.
“Isn’t this the president of the Sean Group, Halley? Who is this woman?”
“It seems to be his ex-wife. They had divorced before.”
“Iverson fought for the sake of a married woman? How is that possible?”
“This woman is capable.”
“I heard this woman also got half of the Sean Family’s assets. If she can marry Iverson, she’ll get another half after divorce. Hurry up and write a book, “Strategies of Hitting on a Guy.” I’ll be the first to buy it.”
Amanda was dumbfounded.
Joleen’s voice sounded from the other end of the line, “Why aren’t you getting up yet? The photos have already exposed your address; I’m afraid the reporters might be blocking you by now.”
Amanda returned to her senses and said, “I’ll call Iverson.”
“Go ahead. I’ll pick you up. I’m almost downstairs. You can leave from the underground garage.”
“Okay!”
After hanging up on Joleen, Amanda immediately called Iverson.
It was Jamie who answered the phone.
“Miss Jewell, Mr. Byran is in a meeting.”
“Is it because of the news?”
“Yes, we will have a press conference later. Mr. Byran will deal with it.”
“How are you going to explain? Let me explain.”
As the president of the Byran Group, Iverson had fought in the open, which affected the group’s reputation. Needless to say, the board of directors would have objections.
No matter what, she was the cause of this, so Amanda couldn’t just stay out of it.
“I’ll go now.”
Without waiting for Jamie to speak, Amanda hung up.
She quickly washed up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs. Joleen was already waiting for her in the garage.
The car drove out of the garage. They saw the reporters when they came out of the community’s gate. Amanda lowered her sunglasses and said, “I’m really blocked.”
“Who asked you in the same photo with Iverson?”
“Even if Iverson was a public figure, he shouldn’t be so favored by the media. He’s not a celebrity.”
Joleen explained, “There shouldn’t have been any splashes, but wasn’t there a rumor recently that he rejected the noble and amazing Best Actress? Once they catch his news, they’ll be able to write something about the Best Actress.”
Amanda rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Just idle around!”
Joleen helplessly said, “Stop complaining. I ran with you as soon as I returned from a business trip. I haven’t said anything yet.”
“Thank you.”
“Not at all.” Joleen held the steering wheel, her hands pale and thin. As she drove, she asked, “So, what’s your relationship with Iverson? Are you really with him?”
“No! Why do you also believe in those box news?”
“Then why did he fight with Halley?”
“He saved me.”
Amanda had no choice but to tell Joleen what happened last night.
Joleen frowned. “If it wasn’t for you, the Sean Group wouldn’t be where they are today. Even if you took all of his property, you deserved it, much less half of it. He even fought with you.”
“Fortunately, Iverson arrived just in time. Nothing happened, and Halley was also beaten badly. He didn’t dare to say anything when he arrived at the police station. After all, if he dares to accuse Iverson, I can accuse him.”
“But why is Iverson here in the middle of the night?”
Joleen’s tone became ambiguous, “Amanda, did you leak anything?”
Amanda was anxious. “It’s not what you think. I left my phone in his car.”
“Oh? He sent you back?”
“Nope. I was having dinner with Patrick last night, and then I ran into Iverson’s assistant at the restaurant. His assistant took me home along the way.”
She couldn’t explain it clearly, so Amanda felt it was getting more complicated.
The smile on Joleen’s face froze when she heard Patrick’s name. She asked disappointedly, “Did you have dinner with Patrick last night?”
Looking at Joleen’s expression, Amanda said helplessly, “You even said that you didn’t like him. Your expression changed when you heard that I was eating with him.”
“I didn’t.”
Joleen denied, “Actually, Patrick is a pretty good person. Amanda, would you like to… reconsider?”
“Ahhh!”
Amanda thought that she had misheard. “Are you kidding me? Me and Patrick?”
“I’m serious.”
“Joleen!”
Seeing the unhappy look on Amanda’s face, Joleen finally corrected herself. “Okay, okay, okay. Just pretend that I didn’t say anything. Anyway, you have the president of the Byran Group now, so how could you take a fancy to a lawyer?”NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
“You’re still saying that it’s not over, right? I’m going to get out of the car.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t tease you anymore. We’re almost there.”
When the car reached the Byran Group, Amanda’s eyes narrowed.
At this time, the Byran Group was holding a press conference.
“There are quite a lot of people here.”
Joleen accompanied Amanda to the conference room and looked around. “The famous media in Ducco are here.”
Amanda also saw it.
Jamie rushed over. “Miss Jewell.”
Amanda nodded at him and introduced her. “This is my best friend, Joleen Lewis. She sent me here. He’s Mr. Byran’s assistant, Jamie Tarry.”
“Hello, Miss Lewis.”
“Hello.”
There was no time for small talk. Jamie explained, “Mr. Byran, you’d better not show up, Miss Jewell. After all, you’re not a public figure, so you can turn down the reporters’ interview.”
“What about him?”
“Mr. Byran is the president of the Byran Group and the company representative. He needs to give both the shareholders and the outside world an explanation for fighting into the police station.”
As they spoke, the meeting room suddenly became restless.
“Mr. Byran is here.”
During the commotion, Iverson strode in from the other side of the door, looking as calm as he faced the reporters.
Standing beside Amanda, Joleen sighed with emotion and said, “Is this Iverson? He is indeed an extraordinary man.”
Frowning, Amanda looked at the calm figure and felt even more guilty.
In the end, she was the one who had caused this trouble. She couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.
“Huh? Amanda, where are you going?”
“Miss Jewell.”
Jamie and Joleen didn’t stop her.
She walked out without looking back, facing the surging reporters and Iverson.
