Chapter 76 How Could an Ordinary People Marry in?
Amanda held a bag of fruits in her hand.
Iverson had told her that she did not need to bring anything with her, but she felt that it was inappropriate to come empty-handed, so she had bought some fruits in advance.
Before Amanda could reply, Iverson asked, “Where’s Grandma?”
No one answered Victoria’s question, and an awkward expression appeared on her face. However, she seemed to have gotten used to Iverson’s reaction, so she quickly regained her composure. “Grandma is in the side room. She says that she wants you to be there first and that she needs you for something.”
Iverson frowned.
Amanda shook his hand. “Go ahead.”
“Wait here for a moment. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.”
After Iverson left, the butler came over to help Amanda get the bag. “Miss Jewell, give it to me.”
“Thank you.”
Amanda handed the fruit in her hand to the butler.
“Let me take a look.” However, Victoria waved her hand.
The butler hesitated for a few seconds before bringing the fruit to Victoria.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
It was a very ordinary leather paper bag, which contained some oranges, apples, and other fruits, but they were all plump and beautiful. It could be seen that they had been carefully selected.
“Where did you buy these fruits, Miss Jewell? Are they natural?”
Amanda smiled. “I bought it at the fruit shop near the gate of the community.”
Victoria threw the orange back into the bag, waved her hand, and asked the butler to take it away. She also deliberately took out a tissue to wipe her hand in front of Amanda, as if the orange was poisonous.
“Then, it’s pesticide residues. It’s okay for you to eat fruits of this quality yourself, but it’s not appropriate to give them to others, is it? Miss Jewell is rich now. How can you bring them out?”
“That’s what I usually eat. Do you eat fruit without washing?”
“You! You’re really from a poor family. It seems that marrying to the Sean Family hasn’t made you more regal.”
Victoria’s words were harsh, but Amanda was calm.
Since she had promised Iverson to come back with him, she was prepared to face the consequences.
“According to your living habits, how can you be with Iverson? Do you know that his daily necessities are the best?”
“What’s the best?”
Victoria snorted. “Take the clothes that Iverson was wearing for example. His suit was sewn by Italian craftsmen, and the food he ate was even more exquisite than you could have imagined. What’s special about the Sean Family? You haven’t even touched the edge of a wealthy family.”
“Also, although you have half of the Sean Family’s wealth, compared to our Byran Family, your little bit of wealth is like a drop of water in the sea. Two families are not well-matched, so how could you marry Iverson?”
“I never said I was going to marry him, did I?”
“Didn’t say that? Humph, then what are you doing now?”
“The interaction may not be fruitful, right?”
“You knew there was no result, but you still rushed up. Are you showing your true colors? You just want to seek some money, don’t you?”
“I’m afraid that I don’t have the ability to make money from the Byran Family. What I mean is that if two people date, they will definitely get married. Why don’t they just get married as soon as they know each other? I don’t have the final say whether or not we will get married in the future.”
“After all, you still want to marry into the Byran Family”
Just as Victoria was about to continue with her sarcastic remarks, Mrs. Old Byran’s voice came from inside the room. “Everyone knows how to boast. Miss Jewell, if you’re really so free and easy, why did you take away so much money from the Sean Family when you divorced?”
“Mom!”
Amanda was taken aback.
It turned out that Mrs. Old Byran had been listening to her talk with Victoria in the inner room.
At this moment, the old woman in her sixties came out from the inner room. Even though she was carrying a walking stick, her back was straight and she was hale and hearty. Her eyes were fierce.
“Mrs. Old Byran?”
“Miss Jewell, please take a seat.”
Mrs. Old Byran pointed to the sofa with her walking stick and motioned for Amanda to take a seat.
“Mrs. Old Byran, didn’t you just say that I took away the Sean Family’s money?”
“Could it be that it’s not true?”
“It’s true,” Amanda replied calmly, “but I deserve it.”
Mrs. Old Byran said coldly, “You deserve it? In terms of the legal situation, you indeed deserve it. After tasting the sweetness of marriage, you think that marrying a rich man can enrich your wealth every time you divorce. Indeed, Miss Jewell can make this deal without losing anything by relying on your beauty.”
“Mrs. Old Byran, do you mean that you’re treating the marriage as a business deal?”
Victoria’s eyebrows rose as she berated, “Do you know the rules? How can you talk to elders like that?”
Mrs. Old Byran raised her hand and said, “Let her say it.”
Amanda said, “The Sean Family was originally about to go bankrupt. It has been supported by me alone for the past three years. What I took away was half of what should have been mine. It has nothing to do with whether I married into the Sean Family or not.”
“But if you hadn’t married into their family, would you have become what you are today?”
“I don’t think anyone will think about the benefits of divorce when they get married.” Amanda looked straight at Mrs. Old Byran. “Do you?”
“What are you saying?” Victoria berated. “How can you talk to elders like that? Has your family never taught you that?”
Mrs. Old Byran frowned slightly but didn’t show any displeasure.
On the contrary, she now admired this woman a little.
As someone with a righteous view, and spoke with manners, but wasn’t small family as Victoria had said.
Amanda was neither humble nor pushy. “In other words, if what I thought about was what I could get from the divorce, why should I marry a fake rich family that was about to go bankrupt? You also think that I’m Beautiful. Other than the Sean Family, can’t I marry someone else more suitable?”
After hearing her words, Mrs. Old Byran was at a loss for words.
Victoria replied angrily, “It was all sophistry. I’ve seen many women like you, and they all said they are refined. But in fact, they’re blinded by greed. If they marry into a wealthy family, they’ll have a different face.”
“You think too highly of me. I’m just an ordinary person.”
“An ordinary person and has divorced. Miss Jewell, how can you deserve to be the young mistress of the Byran Family?”
Mrs. Old Byran said these words casually. Although she wasn’t as contemptuous as Victoria, she didn’t look up to Amanda either.
“The Byran Family is big, and Iverson’s marriage is closely related to the Byran Family’s future.”
She was Iverson’s grandmother, so what she said was harsher.
Amanda frowned.
“It’s up to me to decide whether she deserves or not.”
A cold male voice came from outside.
Before Iverson could find Mrs. Old Byran, he had already guessed that something was wrong. He rushed back in a hurry and heard Mrs. Old Byran’s insults toward Amanda outside the door.
Iverson went straight into the house and said coldly, “Grandma, I brought Amanda home for dinner. What do you mean now?”
Victoria quickly tried to smooth things over. “Iverson, you’ve misunderstood…”
“Or did someone say something? Did you listen to that?”
Iverson didn’t wait for Victoria to finish speaking and interrupted her directly, his cold eyes full of warning.
Victoria shuddered as she stood aside and didn’t dare to say any word.
Mrs. Old Byran frowned and said unhappily, “I just asked a few questions. Can’t I ask someone who wants to marry into the Byran Family?”
“You can’t.”
The cold words echoed in the living room, and everyone could not believe it.
Iverson was very filial to his grandmother and had never seen him disobey her. Even when he had asked him to return home to inherit the Byran Family, he had come back without hesitation.
Amanda clenched her fists as if she was on tenterhooks.
This situation was not what she wanted to see.
