Chapter 96 It’s a Taboo To Lose Your Mind
“What do you mean?”
“How are you going to tell your mother and Aaron Jewell?”
Joleen Lewis glanced at Amanda Jewell. “We should at least let them know about such an important matter like an engagement.”
“No,” Amanda answered simply, “you keep it a secret for me.”
“Why?”
“You know who my mother is. Aaron Jewell only cares about studying. You don’t have to tell him these things.”
Joleen asked in confusion, “Don’t tell me you’re planning on waiting until after you get married?”
“What marriage? That’s too far in the future.”
“Come on, I think Iverson’s attitude is very clear today. It’s obvious that he’s rushing to marry you. To be honest, I’m not surprised at all if you tell me that you two will get married tomorrow.”
“How could this be possible?”
Amanda’s eyes widened. “Don’t joke about something like this.”
“Do you have some things on your mind?” Joleen saw through her thoughts with a single glance. “You’ve been married once, so you have to be especially cautious and don’t dare to take too many risks.”
“No.” Amanda didn’t say anything else and turned to look out of the window.
She just felt that marriage was not as good as it had been when she was young. Life was already troublesome enough. After marriage, both families would be involved, which would be more troublesome.
By this time, the guests in the banquet hall of the hotel had dispersed.
Iverson glanced at the missed calls on his phone and his face turned stiff slightly.
“Mr. Byran, do you need me to drive you home?”
After Jamie Tarry was done dealing with the banquet, he walked over to Iverson.
Iverson said, “No need. Get off work. I’ll go to my family’s house.”
“But it’s so late!” Jamie glanced at his watch and was suddenly stunned. “Did Mrs. Old Byran find out about the banquet?”
Iverson did not reply. “Let the driver prepare the car.”
He didn’t intend to hide what had happened at the party from his grandmother and the rest of the family. No one could stop him from getting engaged to Amanda or even getting married. As for someone who insisted on stopping him, he would go find them first.
When Iverson thought of the fight that had lasted for so long because of the pills, his eyes grew cold.
In the old house of the Byran Family.
“Young Master is back.”
“Iverson, you must have just finished with the banquet. Are you hungry? I’ll have the kitchen prepare food.”
As usual, Victoria Carey was very enthusiastic and concerned about Iverson’s well-being. The moment she saw him walking in, she immediately ordered the servants, “Prepare some food and bring it over.”
“There’s no need for that,” Iverson said, raising his hand and looking at Victoria coldly. “It’s already so late, but why haven’t you rested yet? Why are you waiting here for me to come back? You’re really considerate.”
“Iverson, you’re too polite. We’re not outsiders and we’re a family. I know you’ve worked hard on the thank-you banquet. If I don’t care about you, who does?”
“Aunty Carey, aren’t you worrying too much?”
Victoria’s face froze. “Iverson, what do you mean by that?”
Iverson snorted coldly and strode into the inner courtyard, not saying another word.
“Grandma.”
“You’re back.” When Mrs. Old Byran saw Iverson, she put down her teacup and asked, “How was the banquet? Did anything happen?”
“No, it was very smooth.”
“Where’s Lydia? Didn’t she go with you?”
“It’s late. Someone has already sent her home.”
“Lydia’s parents have been staying in Ducco for the past few days and even specially came to visit me,” Mrs. Old Byran looked up at Iverson and said earnestly. “They asked you to come home to have dinner with them, but you just said that you weren’t free. Do you really have so many things to do in the company?”
Iverson said, “I’m indeed very busy at the company. It’s enough to have Aunty Carey deal with these unnecessary social interactions.”
“What do you mean unnecessary social interactions?”
Mrs. Old Byran frowned. “The Ginos Family and our family have been friends for generations, and the two companies are also business partners. You should meet them in private or in public. How can you call it an unnecessary social interaction? Besides, your father married Victoria later. She’s not qualified to show up for the Byran Family.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the servant’s voice came from the door. “Madam, why don’t you go in?”
Mrs. Old Byran glanced at Victoria, who was standing at the door. She didn’t know if Victoria had just arrived or if she had been standing there for a while. “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
Mrs. Old Byran’s tone showed that she didn’t care if Victoria had heard what she had just said.
Victoria pretended that she didn’t hear anything and walked in as if nothing had happened. She smiled warmly and said, “I was going to rest, but Iverson is back. I thought there might be things that you want me to do, so I came to take a look.”
“What else can I do? How can I give him any orders now?”
Mrs. Old Byran’s words were thorny. She slammed the table and said, “The engagement is such a big thing, yet you casually announced it to the public. I really want to see if he’s still my grandson.”
“Mom, don’t be angry. Have a sip of tea to calm down.”
“Grandma, I remember telling you in advance that I’m going to get married.”
“As I said, I don’t like that woman.”
Mrs. Old Byran’s attitude was firm, and the anger on her face became more and more intense. “I know what kind of person she is. I’ll tell you clearly that it’s impossible to let her marry into the Byran family.”
“Where does your information about her come from?”
Iverson’s gaze fell on Victoria.
Victoria’s expression froze, and she avoided Iverson’s gaze.
“I’ve sent someone to investigate, and I’ve seen her myself. How can a woman who sleeps in someone else’s house for the first time be considered to be of any good character? Iverson, it is a big taboo to lose your mind.”
“Grandma, do you think that I’m marrying her just because she’s beautiful?”
“In addition to being beautiful, I’m afraid she has many tricks up her sleeve.”
Iverson frowned slightly and said in a low voice, “There are so many women who want to be Mrs. Byran. You and I know that. I have taken over the Byran Group for so many years, and you would think none of them is more beautiful than Amanda?”
Mrs. Old Byran was stunned.
“Amanda is not the kind of woman you think she is. I’m trying to persuade you because you’re my grandma. I hope the person I like can get your approval.”
“What if I never agree?”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“I won’t force you. I’m going to marry her, not me.”
Iverson’s eyes were calm as he said calmly, “I respect your preferences, but I will make my own decisions on my own marriage. If love really makes me lose my mind, maybe I’ll follow my father.”
Hearing that, everyone in the room was stunned, especially Victoria, whose face changed.
Mrs. Old Byran frowned. Iverson’s cold and determined look was exactly the same as his father’s when he was alive. Mrs. Old Byran seemed to have seen her son standing in front of her, and she was suddenly in a daze.
“It’s getting late, grandma. Please go to bed early.”
Iverson was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something. He stopped at the door and said solemnly, “The housekeeper is getting old. I don’t think he’ll be able to handle everything in the old house. Let’s find someone to share his burden.”
Startled, Mrs. Old Byran’s grip on the corner of the table tightened.
