Chapter 58
“It’s not that I am forcing her, Kyle!” Jace exclaimed.
“But that’s how it looks to me, and, I’m sure, to her as well,” his friend replied.
“I love her and our son. And she admitted that she loves me too. Why can’t she just let me in so I can show her who I really am? Living separately is not helping us; it only pushes her away from me. And because of Liam, she had another option,” Jace said as he brushed his hair with his fingers. He was in a bar with his friend, who listened to him tirelessly.
“So, Emerald is the reason why you invited me out?” Kyle asked, raising a brow.
“And what else do you think?”
“How about the fact that I helped our legal council in trapping that company extorting ACEGame?” Jace’s eyes widened. Lately, he has been thinking about his wife and has forgotten everything. He sighed when he thought he had good news to share with Emerald when he remembered what she told him about having problems.
“Thanks, man. You’re really a good and very reliable friend.” Kyle shook his head, smiling. It was all he could do for his friend, and he was happy that, at some point, he had alleviated his burden.
“And about Ace’s disappearance?” his friend suddenly remembered to ask about the incident.
“Creep is still looking at it. That’s why I want them to live with me as soon as possible. What if another incident like that happens again?”
“You’re letting them stay in your penthouse?”
“Of course not! I’ll bring them to our mansion; that’s where they belong,” Jace replied and gulped on his drinks.
“Then I hope Emerald will agree. Cheers!” and they drank together.
Meanwhile, Emerald, Liam, and Cedrick are seriously conversing in the young Morgan’s house. The detective brought the DNA result and handed it to the woman.
Young Morgan’s hands were shaking as she held the envelope. She opened it and slowly got the paper inside before gently unfolding it. “I don’t know what to expect, but I hope I get a favorable result.” Her heart was pounding as she said that.
Cedrick didn’t say anything and just had his head down. He had already seen it but didn’t want to ruin the thrill for young Morgan. He waited until he saw Emerald gasping in shock with wide eyes before he smiled. “You are Mr. Landers’ daughter.” he finally said.
“How?”
“Simple, they were already lovers before Ms. Ember left. If only she didn’t do it and waited for Mr. Ferguson to introduce your father to her, things would have been different.”
“How about Mr. Landers? Did he know that it was her that he would meet?” Liam asked,
“Yes, and he even encouraged Ms. Ember to meet the man his father was arranging for her. Maybe she thought he didn’t love her, so she decided to leave instead.” Cedrick said in a low voice. “I cannot blame Ms. Ember for that, though,” the detective added.
“My nanny is my real mother?” Emerald asked teary eyes. She was happy and, at the same time, sad, thinking that Lucy had let her live with a family who didn’t care about her. But after some thought, she remembered how she was always on her side, no matter what. “Mr. Cedrick, I want to find her; I want to find my mother.”
Cedrick nodded, “I am more than willing to help. She’s my mission, and I will not return to Italy unless I bring her.”
“Thank you so much.”
“And I can say that you’re a bonus to this mission, Ms. Emerald,” Cedrick replied. “Believe it or not, when I told Mr. Landers about your name, he immediately believed you’re his daughter.”
“Huh? How?”
“Because of your name. The two have talked about it already. They agreed to give their daughter that name.”
“I didn’t think about my name being unrelated to my father and mother. I thought we all had similar-sounding names: Merly, Emerson, Emerose, Emerald,” young Morgan said.
“I already told Mr. Landers I will meet you today, and he was excited. Please forgive me if I already told him that you would want him to become your father instead of Emerson Morgan.”
“And what did he say?”
“He was very happy, and you don’t know how much.” Emerald wanted to jump for joy after hearing that. All her life, she only wanted her family to love her. With what Cedrick had told her, a glimpse of hope began to shine in her eyes. “And he wanted to see you. As we spoke, he was on his way to the airport to come here,” Cedrick continued happily.
“You better get ready, M,” Liam, who was sitting beside her, said. She looked at him, smiling before she leaned her head on his shoulder. It was the scene that Jace witnessed as he entered the house with Kyle.
Jace rushed to Liam and pulled him up from the couch before he punched him. “You stay away from my wife,” he said angrily.
“Hey, hey, man, take it easy.” Kyle was pulling him away from Liam, who was already on the floor as he was caught unprepared.
“What do you think you’re doing, Jace!” Emerald said angrily as she joined her friend on the floor, helping him get up. Cedrick was stunned and didn’t know what had just happened. He couldn’t even know who he would help.
“That’s it, Emerald. I am taking my son’s custody. He’s just in his bedroom, and here you are, flirting with this bastard. He knew I was his father and wanted us to be together.”
“What are you saying, Jace? We’re not doing anything wrong!” Emerald shouted. “And don’t threaten me with Ace’s custody!”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Okay, fine. Did you want that bastard that much? I’ll give it to you. I’ll sign the divorce papers right now, but I am taking my son.”
“Shut up!” Kyle was still holding Jace as he heard Emerald shout. “You’re not taking my son away from me! How would I know he would be taking care of, even after you remarried?” she continued.
“I am not going to get married again; if I did, I’d give him back to you,” Jace said with conviction.
“What do you think of my son? A thing?”
“No! He’s my most important person, so I am telling you this. Once I remarry, I’ll give him back to you.”
“No, I am not going to give my son’s custody to you.”
“Then stay away from that bastard! Never let him near you and live with me.”
“Jace, that’s too much!” Liam chimed in, making Emerald stop him from talking.
“Please, Liam, let me talk to him.”
“You have no fucking right to interrupt us, bastard. My son has been put in danger when you two are together, and he’s with you. How can I be sure that it won’t happen again?”
“Jace, let’s talk about this later. I have a guest, and we are talking about important matters here,” Emerald said in resignation.
“Man, let her be for now. Look, there’s another guy here, so whatever you think is not happening.” Kyle said, pointing at Cedrick and trying to calm his friend. “Let’s go home for now and go back tomorrow. Or you can talk in the company instead.”
“No, she chose now. I’ll take my son and sign the divorce papers, or she will come with me with our son.” Jace insisted.
“Why are you so inconsiderate? Can’t you see what’s going on here?” Emerald said exasperatedly.
“Mr. Higginson,” said Cedrick. “I know that I am not in the position to stop you or get in between you and Ms. Emerald, but as she said, we are talking about a very sensitive topic here, and she was emotional.”
“You know me?” Jace asked, raising a brow.
“Of course, who wouldn’t know one of the wealthiest men here in L. A. and Ms. Emerald’s husband?” Because of what he said, Jace calmed down, thinking Emerald and Liam were not acting sweet when he saw them.
“What is it about?” young Higginson asked curiously.
“Nothing that concerns you,” Emerald replied,
“Is it about your nanny, Ms. Ferguson?” he asked again,
“You knew?” Young Morgan asked, confused. She didn’t know that her husband had any idea about her nanny.
“I also asked someone to look for her because I know it will make you happy. So you’ll think I will be more than enough to support and provide you and our son with your needs. You see, I am trying my hardest to make you see that I love you, and I can’t live without you.”
Emerald felt touched after she heard Jace. She didn’t know that he was also willing to do anything for her. She admitted to him that she still loved him but was afraid to get into any intimate relationship with him for fear of getting hurt again. Without thinking, young Morgan approached and kissed him on his lips, making young Higginson’s eyes widen before he responded.
