Chapter 102 You Are My Gift (Part One)
It seemed like a long while before the burst of applause finally came to a stop. Spencer let go of
Fiona's hand and embraced her. 'That was mind-blowing!'
Fiona felt shy as she collapsed into Spencer's arms. She was speechless and her mind went blank.
"Let me take you someplace," he whispered in her ear once she recovered from her shyness. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
"Where are we going?" Fiona asked softly.
"You'll know when we are there." He walked her out of the backstage and draped his coat over her
shoulders.
Then, he carried her to his apartment under the bright moonlit sky.
"Are you feeling cold?" Spencer looked concerned.
"No, I'm not." Fiona shook her head. There was a new and unimaginable feeling in her heart and she
didn't know what to think of it. Spencer was being so gentle and caring with her.
"We're almost here. It'll only be the two of us."
"Your apartment?" Fiona frowned as she took a closer look at where they were heading to.
"Why are we going there? Let's go to the top floor and look at the beautiful view." Spencer gave her a
genuine smile that warmed her heart.
Fiona's lips twitched. "It's harsh winter now and it will be freezing cold. I don't want to go there."
"Haven't you heard of this thing called romance?" Spencer grunted.
"Well, romance should also be practical. If we go there tonight, we'll both end up being sick tomorrow
morning." Fiona shook her head firmly and frowned. "So no, I don't want to go."
"You don't have a choice. You don't get to decide." Spencer carried her further. "Will you fall sick with
me around?"
"But..." Fiona frowned. "What about the gala? You don't care about your men and their families?"
"Do you think it's my job to take care of everything that happens in the base no matter how big or
small? That sounds rather exhausting." He took Fiona up the stairs. "They can have fun on their own,
and we can have fun on our own. You are not celebrating New Year's Day anymore. You are
celebrating my birthday."
Fiona was dumbfounded as he carried her to the top floor. The top floor had railings all around it. There
was a beautiful tent in the middle adorned with small fairy lights. It looked like it was just put up a few
hours ago. A campfire was set up in front of it, and a plate of pheasant and a bottle of wine sat next to
it.
Fiona was so filled with joy that she was about to cry. It felt unbelievable that her husband had done all
of this for her. "How did you do all this?"
"Do you feel moved that I did all this for you?" Spencer gave a smug smile. "Have a seat. I'll get us
some roast pheasant to eat."
"Where did you even get the pheasant from?"
"I asked my men to hunt some for us. Wild pheasants are quite easy to find around this area," Spencer
smiled.
Fiona smiled back. Then, she went and opened the tent. When she noticed a beautiful cake box placed
inside it, she grabbed the box out of curiosity and peeked inside. The note read,
"Happy birthday, Spencer! Surprise!"
Fiona's lips curled into a smile.
"What are you doing, Fiona? I'm going to show you my roasting skills. Watch carefully!" Spencer placed
the pheasant on the grill.
"What?" Fiona hid the cake box quickly, looked at him, and nodded. "Well... do you need any help?"
Spencer turned to look at her and grinned. "If you really want to help, then... come here and kiss me. It
will motivate me."
"Hey..." Fiona's cheeks blushed pink. "Stop it!"
He then placed the pheasant on the grill to roast it as he uttered, "I knew you wouldn't want to kiss me."
Fiona raised her eyebrows, shocked. "Hey, don't be such a baby."
"Don't call me a baby. If you call me that one more time, I won't spare you."
As Fiona opened her mouth to say something, she noticed a burnt smell. "What's burning?"
"Oh shit! The roast pheasant!" He rushed to turn it over and saw that it had been burnt on one side.
When Fiona saw the mortified look on his face, she burst into laughter.
When he heard her laughing, he glanced at her with a smile. "It's the first time I'm seeing you so
happy."
As she laughed, her teeth sparkled like pearls in the moonlight. She looked like a beautiful angel. But
when she heard his words, she stopped laughing immediately. "Focus on your work. I'm starving."
Spencer gave her a wry smile. "All right, then."
As they sat on the floor to have their dinner, the night sky looked beautiful. The air was filled with a
scent of earthiness from the burnt charcoal.
Spencer wore a proud expression on his face as he dressed the roast pheasant with condiments,
making it smell absolutely scrumptious.
Fiona lit candles in the tent.
Spencer smiled and bit his tongue in excitement. "The roast pheasant is ready, Fiona. Come have a
taste while it's still warm." He moved the pheasant from the fire and placed it onto a tray. When he
raised his head, he was astonished to see Fiona holding a cake in her hands.
"Spencer, your men prepared this cake for you. Well, with the cake, I want to wish you a happy
birthday." Fiona looked absolutely breathtaking in the candlelight. "Make a wish before the candle goes
out!"
In the quiet and blissful atmosphere, Spencer's heart softened. He realized he wanted to spend the rest
of his life with her. He tried to hide his feeling of euphoria and spoke calmly. "Wish? It's a trick to cheat
kids. I won't fall for it."
"It's not a trick. You should make one to see if it works. You can't make one if the candle goes out."
Listening to Fiona, Spencer smirked. "Is that so? Then let me try it."
"Good." Fiona nodded and smiled. "After you make your wish, you should blow out the candle in one
breath."
"Okay," Spencer eagerly agreed. "Then I wish my wife would sleep with me tonight. And on top of me!"
He then blew the candle, while Fiona stood there shocked.
"What? On top of you?" She was perplexed.
"What do you think?" He leaned closer to her and explained it to her. Fiona flushed a bright red when
she heard what he was planning to do with her.
"What?" Spencer sat back in his seat and pretended to be anxious. "I don't know if my wish will come
true."
Feeling shy, Fiona lowered her eyes and picked up a twig, which she tossed into the campfire,
deliberately not looking into his eyes. "If you're making a wish, there's no point in saying it out loud. It
might not work. Not to mention you were a little greedy with your wish." She was lost in thought as she
spoke. 'How can I be on top of him?' she thought, feeling embarrassed.
"Would it happen if I hadn't said it out loud?" He then carved the pheasant and placed a leg onto her
plate. "Have you made any secret wishes that have come true?"
Fiona took a bite of the roast pheasant and smiled. "I haven't celebrated my birthday in ten years and I
don't have any wishes."
Spencer felt guilty when he heard her words. "For your next birthday, I'm going to make you eleven
cakes. You can make all the wishes for your missed birthdays."
When she saw the earnest expression on Spencer's face, Fiona was at a loss for words.
