Chapter 138 Whose Baby She Is Carrying
Chapter 138 Whose Baby She Is Carrying
"Mr. Cheng? Mr. Cheng?" After the doctor enumerated his findings, Spencer became speechless.
Confused, the doctor approached him, put his hand on his shoulder, and said with a smile, "Mr. Cheng,
are you so excited that you don't know what to do?"
When Spencer raised his eyebrows, he immediately snapped out of his daze and back to his senses.
He then forced a smile and said, "Yes."
The doctor didn't realize how Spencer basically lied through his teeth. Instead, he just nodded and
said, "Well, if that's the case, I guess I'll leave first. I'll make sure she gets the medicine she needs. It's
better to have an intravenous drip since we still don't know when she'll wake up."
"Mm," Spencer answered, still in a trance. As soon as the doctor turned around the corner, he felt like
his soul came back to him and hurriedly called out, "Wait a minute!"
"Mr. Cheng, do you need anything else?" the doctor asked, once again looking confused.
After a short pause, he asked, "How long has Fiona been pregnant? Is it seven or ten days?"
"I'm afraid we have no way of knowing. We can only be sure that it isn't more than ten days," the doctor
replied.
"Is there a way for you to tell me the exactly when she got pregnant?"
"I'm afraid not," the doctor answered him, shaking his head.
Spencer stood still, silent and motionless. After a few passing moments, the doctor realized how
Spencer's face was getting paler and paler as the seconds ticked by. He became concerned and asked
worriedly, "Mr. Cheng, is anything wrong? What is happening?"
"No, nothing. Please don't worry about me," he said. After that, he waved his hand as if to dismiss the
doctor. The doctor then nodded and left quietly with the report in his hand.
It was so quiet inside the room that if someone dropped a pin, one would be able to hear the sound it
would make. Spencer was still motionless, and soon, he began to feel his hands and feet become cold,
just like his heart. With tear stains on her pale, beautiful face, Fiona was breathing steadily in the bed.
Spencer moved slowly and silently towards the edge of the bed. He pressed his lips together as he
reached out for Fiona's belly. There was a need deep inside him to feel the little baby in her womb that
hadn't even formed yet. Slowly, his hand neared Fiona's stomach.
"Damn it!" he cursed out loud when he was only centimeters away from touching the woman lying in
the bed. He then retracted his shaking hand. His hesitation came from the fact that the child might not
be his. If Fiona had been pregnant for seven days, the baby was undoubtedly his. Unfortunately, if she
had been pregnant for more than eight days, there was no way it would be his, since Fiona was still in
Cherry Grove Residence at that time. He dared not to think more about it!
Celine made her way into the infirmary mainly because Spencer hadn't come back for a long time.
When she saw the doctor coming out of Fiona's ward, she stopped him and asked, "Do you know
where Spencer is?"
"Mr. Cheng is in the third ward now as Mrs. Cheng is still in a coma. Miss Cheng, I think it would be
better if you'd let them be for a moment."
"She's still in a coma?" Celine asked, frowning. She glanced at the report in the doctor's hand and
asked, "Why is she still in a coma? Is she seriously ill? What are your findings?"
"Oh, she's not ill," the doctor revealed with a smile on his face. "Actually, it's good news!"
"Good news?"
"Yes, Mrs. Cheng is pregnant!"
"Pregnant?" Celine repeated, her eyes as wide as disks. Shock and disbelief were evident in her voice.
"Fiona is pregnant?!"
"Yes!" the doctor replied. Before he could say anything more, however, he saw Spencer coming out of
Fiona's ward. "Mr. Cheng?" he called out.
Celine immediately turned her head and the first thing she saw was the stern expression on Spencer's
face. As if he didn't see the two people standing along the corridor, he passed them and strode
forward. He didn't need to say anything else as his tall, imposing figure already intimidated everyone
who saw him.
"Spencer! Spencer!" Celine shouted as she tried to catch up with Spencer. When she finally did, she
asked anxiously, "Is she pregnant?"
Spencer's eyes narrowed and he cast a stern glance at Celine. "There is no need for you to know
anything," he said.
Such words stunned Celine. She didn't know why Spencer was acting this way. In the blink of an eye,
Spencer had already turned a corner and disappeared from sight.
'Damn it...' Celine, however, didn't give up and continued to run after him. "Spencer! Where are you
going?!"
An off-road vehicle had just stopped outside the infirmary. Spencer walked up to it and said gloomily,
"Give me the car keys."
"What? Oh! Okay!" The soldier nodded nervously and immediately got out of the car. "Mr. Cheng, what
are you going to do?" he asked.
"Mind your own goddamn business!" Spencer bellowed. He then grabbed the soldier by the collar and
shook him off. He quickly got in the car, started the engine, stepped on the gas, and drove off like an
arrow shot from a bow.
"Mr. Cheng! Mr. Cheng!"
"Spencer!" Celine saw the scene unfold but she wasn't able to do anything. Despite that, she wasn't
willing to just let Spencer go—she ran after the car as fast as she could while shouting, "Spencer! Stop!
Please!"
However, the car didn't stop. Celine only met a cloud of dust and smoke as continued running behind
the speeding car. "Spencer..."
In M City
A young man walked out of the building of ZR Company in a suit. He massaged the bridge of his nose
gently in an effort to alleviate his stress. The man was none other than Ryan, and he had just come
back from B Country. As soon as he got off the plane, he was taken away by the authorities. Then, the
moment he got out of the police station, he rushed to the company and became occupied with work. He
hadn't slept for several days.
It was the first time for him to wear a formal suit like this. He had never felt so stressed out by his
responsibilities. Somehow, it was understandable: he now had to support his family and company by
himself!
It only took a few days for a person to grow from a boy to a man, and Ryan seemed to be different now.
"Ryan!" In a black car outside the building, Sophia spotted Ryan, who was walking outside. "Ryan, get
in! It's getting cold!" she shouted though her rolled-down window.
"Sophia? Is that you?" Seeing that Sophia was in Andrew's car, Ryan was surprised. "Why are you
here?"
"I came to see you, silly!" Sophia then got out of the car and hopped beside Ryan. She wrapped her
arms around his arm in an intimate way and said, "You look so tired!"
Ryan lovingly caressed Sophia's hair and said, "I just came back. Maybe I'm still not used to the hustle
and bustle of the business."
Sophia glanced at Ryan and remembered what Andrew had told her just now. It was rare for her to be
quiet. After thinking for a while, she tentatively asked, "What's wrong with Charles?"
"He has broken the law." Ryan made his answer as clear and as concise as possible. "Actually, I don't
know much about the details of the case. When I went to the police station, they only asked me some
questions about my brother. Then, after I finished the record, I came back. I didn't even see my father. I
was asking them questions, but they weren't answering me." Ryan sighed and then continued, "I hope
Charles will be fine. I don't even know where he is right now, or how he's doing."
"Ryan, you don't have to worry about him. He left such a mess and you're the one to clean it all up."
Sophia was aggrieved, but then she thought of something else. "You know what, let that go for now.
Let's go home because your mother has prepared dinner for us! If we enjoy delicious food and take
care of our body first, then we would have the energy to deal with the company's affairs, right?"
"Yes, Sophia. You're right." With a smile, they got into the car together. Sophia then happily told
Andrew, who was sitting in the driver's seat, "Let's go home!"
"Got it!"
The car drove all the way to Wen family residence. At one point, they stopped at a red light at an
intersection and a few female students crossed the road in front of their car. They were in the same
uniform, carrying their cute schoolbags, talking and laughing.
As Ryan thoughts floated away, he felt as if Fiona was among them.
"Ryan? What are you looking at? You know anyone?" Sophia asked as she too looked out of the
window.
"No, nothing." Ryan smiled as he said thoughtfully, "Is D University having its winter break now?"
"Yep. I wouldn't have come here if that wasn't the case. Speaking of that, I suddenly remembered
Fiona. I haven't really checked up on her. I don't know if she's okay now," Sophia sighed deeply.
'Fiona!' Ryan's heart skipped a beat when he heard that name again after a long time. Although her
image had often appeared in his mind, he dared not think of her.
"What's wrong with her?" Ryan couldn't help but ask.
"Fiona hasn't contacted me for a long time now. It's been half a month since we last talked!" Sophia
revealed.
"How could that be? What happened to her?" Ryan was so worried that he couldn't help but raise his
voice. "Why hasn't she contacted you for so long? Is she okay? Is she sick?"
Seeing that Ryan suddenly became so interested in Fiona's whereabouts, Sophia was taken aback and
didn't know how to answer. She felt sorry for him and said, "She even didn't take part in the final exam
for this semester! She only took one test and then she didn't come back at all. It was Spencer who
asked me to help her arrange her leave of absence for her. I have been calling her since then, but I
really couldn't get through to her."
Ryan sat up straight, took everything in, and didn't say anything more.NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
It was getting dark. A car came in and parked wildly at the gate of the dormitory building.
Celine had been waiting inside the dormitory. When she heard the sound of engine stalling, she
hurriedly looked out the window. She then saw a man walking out of the car. It was Spencer, but his
body was shaking and his pace was not steady.
'Did he drink alcohol?'
At the thought of this, Celine rushed out of her room and ran downstairs. At the corner of the first floor,
she saw Spencer climbing the stairs silently. She could smell the strong alcohol emanating from him
from a few feet away.
Spencer didn't notice Celine as he was walking with his head down.
"Spencer!" Celine stared at him and asked in a very concerned tone, "Did you drink?"
Upon hearing this, Spencer raised his head. He looked drunk, and his vision was blurred. The buttons
on his shirt were removed, and his Adam's apple was rolling back and forth. He looked more unruly
than usual. After staring at Celine for a few seconds, he recognized her. He then spat, "What do you
care?" After saying that, he continued to walk up the stairs.
"Stop!" Celine opened her arms and stood in front of him. "What is wrong with you today? Shouldn't
you be happy that Fiona is pregnant? Why did you go out by yourself?"
Spencer's eyes narrowed dangerously. Stretching his hand out, he pushed Celine away mercilessly
and said, "Get out of my way!"
Celine stumbled out of Spencer's way, making her lean against the wall. When she saw that he was
about to leave, she grabbed his sleeve with one hand as quickly as she could. "What's wrong? Why are
you angry? Why, Spencer? Is it because of Fiona? Is it because the child she is carrying is not yours at
all? Is that the reason? Is that why you're acting like this, Spencer?" Celine roared in desperation.
This bold conjecture came from her analysis the last time Charles called him. Now, Celine was just
confirming the truth.
