The Beauty and the Brain

Chapter 168

Chapter 168

After the premiere of Double Sided, not only was it nominated for the People’s Choice Awards

domestically, but it also participated in the Europe Film Festival selection, thanks to Aubree’s popularity

and reputation.

However, Sasha herself didn’t hold high hopes for this, as she was still a newcomer in the

entertainment

industry. Being able to star in such a film was already a top-notch treatment, and she didn’t expect to

win the

best actress award in one fell swoop.

Even before Double Sided was released, Shirley had already starred in The Earthquake, which was

based on

the Northridge earthquake and resonated with many people. Although Shirley’s acting skills were not

extremely exquisite, they were still commendable and received a lot of positive reviews. Moreover,

such a

social theme was more likely to be appreciated by the judges.

So, at this year’s People’s Choice Awards, Sasha’s biggest competitor was Shirley.

Darwin, who had experienced numerous rumor scandals and had clarified the facts time and time

again,

could be considered one of the most exposed celebrities in the entertainment industry today. Many

people

went to watch movies just because of Darwin. Coupled with Darwin’s acting skills, the rating of The

Pianist

kept rising.

After the release of these two films, Marie gave Darwin and Sasha a break. Apart from attending a few

programs to promote the new films and participating in a few interview shows, the rest of their time

was

arranged freely.

However, Darwin and Sasha seemed to have fallen into an awkward atmosphere, and even when they

were in

the same conference room, they didn’t make as much noise as usual.

Marie asked Sasha once, and Sasha said it was nothing. Ever since the last time Darwin got drunk

downstairs, she had been like this, seemingly always unhappy.

Marie was also quite helpless. It was obvious that Darwin liked Sasha, but he never clearly expressed Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

his

feelings to her by accident. On the other hand, Sasha was completely focused on her own acting

career and

had never considered matters of the heart. The two of them were in an awkward situation, and Marie

didn’t feel it was appropriate to interfere in their private affairs.

Iliana had been feeling down ever since she last met with Marie and told her that her childhood

sweetheart

was getting married. Marie had visited her a few times, but Iliana didn’t seem very happy.

It was almost the end of the year, and most of the tasks had been completed, which should have been

a happy thing. However, several people around were preoccupied with their own concerns, which made

Marie

feel somewhat depressed.

Dennis probably noticed that Marie was not in a good mood, so he deliberately chose a weekend,

finished his

work in advance, and took Marie out for fun.

Dennis drove all the way to the suburbs, while Marie was drowsy in the car. It took almost three hours

to

teach their destination.

Marie looked at the huge, Intimidating mansin

in front dumbfounded, and asked, “You don’t have

another mansion in the suburbs of New York, do you?. of

Dennis picked up his luggage and nodded, “Yes.”

Get Boys

Marie looked at the man’s smug expression and raised her eyebrows at him. “It’s quite normal for Mr.

Whitney

to have a mansion, isn’t it?”

Dennis freed one hand, placed it on Marie’s shoulder, wrapped it around her neck, and said with a

smile,

“Yeah, your Mr. Whitney’s mansion is not just one or two, maybe you should consider currying favor?”

Marie also cooperated and flattered, “No need to worry, I’ve always been clinging tightly to Mr.

Whitney’s

thigh!”

Dennis was in a great mood, carrying the luggage with one hand and holding Marie’s hand with the

other as

they entered the mansion.

This mansion was bought by Dennis when he had just taken over Whitney Group. He would

occasionally

come to stay for a couple of days by himself. Marie was the first girl to come here.

Since it was located in the suburbs, the mansion had a large area, with three floors and about seven or

eight

bedrooms. The interior design was very simple, with a lot of gray tones, giving off a cold and detached

vibe, which was clearly Dennis’ style.

Marie followed Dennis to put the luggage on the second floor. Without going further up, she casually

flipped

through the wardrobe. Inside, besides a few of Dennis’ old clothes, there were surprisingly no other

clothes.

“Dennis…” Marie called out to him, “Was I the first person to come here?”

Dennis shook his head, “No, Andres, Gavin, and Clayton have all been here before, it’s just that I often

come

to stay by myself.”

Marie nodded, without saying a word.

“But, you were the first girl to come here,” Dennis said.

Marie’s mood suddenly brightened; she just wanted to hear this sentence. Although Dennis had said it

many times before, he had never had a girlfriend, let alone any messy scandals.

While packing, no matter how much Marie protested, Dennis stubbornly moved all her luggage to his

own

bedroom.

“Dennis!” Marie stomped her foot, “I want to sleep by myself!”

“No way,” Dennis refused outright.

“Why?” Marie glared at him.

Dennis looked at her matter-of-factly and said, “You’re my girlfriend, so of course you should live with

me.”

“Dennis!” Marie glared at him angrily, “I’m your girlfriend, not your wife!”

Dennis stopped packing his bags, turned to look at her with a smile in his eyes, and said, “Are you

implying that I should get the matter of marriage at hand?”

Marle was taken aback, her face turned red, and she yelled, “Bullshit!”

She hurriedly ran downstairs, with Dennis’s hearty laughter following behind her.

Get Borus

Marie felt helpless, wondering how their initial aimless wandering had developed into suddenly

discussing marriage and settling down.

Dennis packed his luggage, went downstairs, took out a set of fishing gear, and took Marie fishing.

Marie was dumbfounded again, “Where should we go fishing?”

“You’ll know when we get there,” Dennis said, carrying his fishing gear. He led Marie on a walk that

lasted almost 20 minutes, and they surprisingly ended up by a lake.

Dennis found a spot to sit down, took out his fishing rod and bait, and looked at Marie, “Do you know

how to

fish?”

“Of course!” Marie immediately said.

What’s so difficult about fishing? Just sit and wait for the fish to bite.

Dennis handed Marie a fishing rod and said, “Want to have a competition?”

Marie suddenly became interested and squatted next to Dennis, imitating him and fixing the fish food

onto

the hook.

Dennis took a few steps back, raised his hand, and the fishhook flew far away, quickly falling into the

water. The float wobbled and steadied itself. Dennis turned his head to look at Marie, waiting for her to

cast her

fishhook.

Marie tried to imitate Dennis, raising her hand and casting the fishing hook. However, unlike Dennis’s

cast,

which landed steadily in the water, hers fell near the edge of the lake, almost getting caught in the

aquatic

plants.

Marie was somewhat annoyed. It was just a small fishhook, so why couldn’t she throw it in?

Dennis chuckled softly, walked behind her, took her hand, and taught her how to cast the fishing line.

Only

then did Marie successfully cast the hook into the water.

Then they sat by the shore waiting for the fish to bite, but after a while, Marie just couldn’t be patient

anymore.

She was no longer as calm as she was when she trained to be a sniper, now as Marie, her mind was

filled

with all sorts of messy things, and she had become an ordinary girl in this ordinary life.

Sitting next to this man, I couldn’t help but want to turn my head to look at him.

Despite all the movement, not a single fish was caught, while Dennis had already reeled in two fish on

his

side.

Marie lost her patience, put down her fishing rod, moved next to Dennis, and asked softly, “What’s for

dinner?”

Dennis looked at her and said, “Eat fish, huh? Catch a few, and you eat a few.”

Marie looked at her empty little bucket and asked with a bitter face, “So, I don’t have any food to eat?”

Dennis nodded, “With your track record, it’s probably gone.”

Get Bonus

Marie quickly spun around, grabbed Dennis’s small bucket, and took off running, shouting, “First come,

first

served!”

Dennis threw the fishing rod and caught up to her in just a few steps, pinning her against a nearby tree

trunk.

His deep eyes looked at Marie and he said, “Are you rebelling against me?”

Marie pouted, “I’m just brave, can’t help it.”

“Oh? Let’s see how brave you are!” Dennis said, leaning down to kiss Marie’s lips.

The sound of water flowing by the natural lakeside filled their ears, while birdsong echoed from the tree

trunks from time to time. The setting sun’s light enveloped the two people, creating a scene as beautiful

as a

painting.

It wasn’t until Marie’s small bucket fell to the ground with a clanging sound that she awkwardly nudged

Dennis.

Dennis chuckled as he looked at her, “Weren’t you very brave? Why are you blushing?”
