Chapter 1003
The honey-colored chest came into view, the muscles strong and smooth, yet marred by numerous scars crisscrossing in a menacing dance. Brittany winced slightly, moving closer to the bed to gently wipe the blood from his face with some gauze.
He had sharp, striking features - eyebrows like raven wings and skin as smooth as a peeled egg. Handsome, yes. But clearly no saint.
The doctor continued his work, perhaps a bit too harshly given the grimace on the man's face. Brittany instinctively said, "Be gentle, please."
"Miss, I am being as gentle as I can," the doctor replied, somewhat helplessly.
Weren't all unconscious patients oblivious to pain?
Brittany felt a strange sense of familiarity looking at the man's face, but she couldn't place where she might have seen him before. As the memory eluded her, she let it go.
The doctor spent over an hour tending to the man's injuries before leaving some fever-reducing medicine, just in case.
"Miss, his wounds are severe and could easily get infected. If he develops a fever, administer the medicine. Call me if things get worse."
"Okay."
After the doctor left, Brittany took a shower to clear her mind. When she returned, the man had vanished. Confused, she approached the window and noticed a trail of blood on the railing. He must have escaped through the window.
Brittany touched her chest, feeling a dull ache as she wiped away the bloodstains and changed the sheets. Just then, there was a knock on the door.
It was her son, Daniel.
"Mommy, can I sleep with you tonight?"
"Of course, you can."
Daniel no longer slept in Brittany's bed, but she had placed a little bed in her room for him to sleep nearby.
Brittany lifted him into his bed. "Did the noise from the party wake you?"
The garden party downstairs had just ended, and Daniel's room faced the garden.
"A little," he admitted honestly.
Brittany pinched his cheek softly. "Time to sleep."
Daniel drifted off quickly, but Brittany was restless. Her dreams were tumultuous-flashes of thunderstorms, clattering pipes, and rolling cars. Brittany woke suddenly from her dream.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Daniel was sleeping soundly, so she refrained from making any noise. She covered her face with her hand that was drenched in cold sweat. It had been another nightmare.
Brittany threw off the covers, got out
of bed, and walked into the bathroom. She splashed her face
with a handful of cold water, washed away the sweat, took a deep breath, and finally started to calm down.
The next few days, Brittany's thoughts often drifted back to the injured man, so much so that she even forgot about the Lynette family dinner until Yuri called her. "Bri, are you still at work?"
"Dad!" She realized her oversight. "I'm sorry, I forgot. I'm on my way."
"Take your time. Drive safely."
Brittany rushed back to the Lynette Mansion and was greeted by Saskia and her husband, Gabriel. Saskia had just given birth to a boy last month and received a villa as a gift from the Brandt family, a gesture that filled her with pride.
"Brittany, I heard YULI is really taking off. You're doing amazing!" Saskia's tone was tinged with sarcasm. "What's your next move? Which branch are you planning to conquer next?"
