Chapter 7. Targeted
Luka’s POV
She was even more beautiful than I remembered. Her curves were more define, her working attire should be banned. I had seen more revealing short skirts from the ladies at the reception area. But her pants were wrapping her slender legs and showing off her ass deliciously. She was wearing a sexy top that was covered by her suit jacket.
I couldn’t help myself from teasing and twisting her words. She was looking flustered, and a bit uncomfortable with the situation. But she was handling it well, her words were on point as she kept concentrating on my file.
Damn, she’s very good.
She asked all the right questions, probing me to answer her while she was writing on her pad. Then it finally got to the point, where I was telling her about my parents. It shocked me as to why I even decide to share this information. I was trying to keep my emotion in control when I walk to her large office windows.
I was keeping my hands in my pockets, while I was composing my words to answer her carefully. Then my eyes caught a glimpse of a red dot on my very white shirt. It only took a fraction of a second, to realize that I was targeted from the building across the street.
No… it can’t be…
But I didn’t get to question further and made myself think, as I shouted to Olga and told her to duck. Yet she stubbornly walks my way, rather than do as she was told. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Damn little brat!
Without thinking any further I push her down to the floor while grabbing her head and wrapped my arms around her. It hurts like hell when we hit the floor, but she was safe in my embrace. I could feel her cheek on my chest, and seconds later I felt the burn on the back of my shoulder. The pain made me cursed at her.
“When I told you to duck, do not walk to me. Fuck! That stings!” My voice was low and strained as I was feeling the immense pain. She didn’t say anything, worried that she might be hurting I pull back and looked into her eyes.
She was fine. She didn’t look afraid, but she did look flustered.
Well… who knew… the little brat wants me after all…
She’s way above your league Luka.
The other voice in my mind starts to share its opinion. Damn you…
I didn’t get a chance to check on her when her door burst open, revealing Demyan and Roman as they quickly secured both of us. We were taken to Max’s clinic right away.
She was babbling asking non ended questions to me, then to Demyan, then to Roman. She was obviously still in shock, but she was not hurt.
“Who would try to kill you? Demyan? Did you know about this? Why would someone wants him dead… Roman? Oh, fuck this! I’m calling Nikolai! No… Luka, you stay put and let the good doctor get the bullet out…” she stormed out of the small private room, pulling out her phone from her pants pocket.
She was still on the phone, in front of the door pacing back and forth raising her voice a couple of times. While Demyan looks satisfied with himself and smirked at me. Roman was outside, coordinating with the rest of the crew.
I stared at Demyan, while he glanced at me teasing. “You know… boss will have your head for even thinking about it. Forget about her dude, she will never be yours.”
Nodding at him, I waited until Rebecca the attending doctor finish fishing out the bullet out of me. “Luka, this is going to sting a little bit…”
That was all the warning that she gave me when she shoved the surgical clamps deep into my shoulder. Then she was giving me more pain, as she wiggles the thing when she tries to get the bullet out.
“Fucking hell Becca!” I growled at her.
“Pfft… don’t be such a baby. You’ve dealt with worse than this. You’ll live.” She said casually as she retrieved the bullet with a hell yeah.
“Damn it, Becca you’re enjoying this too much aren’t you?” I was taking a deep breath, trying to manage the pain.
Becca was closing up my wound. She’s a good young doctor, who got into trouble because of her drug abuse. And that was when Max scooped her from the hospital where he works, to be his attending at the clinic.
Moments later out of nowhere, Olga appeared in front of me. She was looking at Becca, then to me.
Wait… was that a glint of jealousy?
The changes in her expression were visible for only seconds. Maybe I was imagining it, but I was pretty sure that she was questioning our little banter.
“Okay, and you are done. You may step from your pedestal big boy and ask for your candy on your way out.” She teased me again, but I know she was doing it on purpose as she was trying to make Demyan jealous.
I just shook my head and smile at her. These two goons think they had everyone fooled. But I was enjoying my view when Becca patted my cheek, and Olga looked like she was about to burst. But she quickly masked it by clearing her throat and saying that she’d be heading back home.
“Let’s go then, you’re not going to use your office anyway. Not until Roman clears everything up for you, and trust me it’ll take a while.” I put my hand on her back when she abruptly moves away from me.
Okay then…
“What? I’m good I can ask Nikolai to pick me up. You just go home and rest, your doctor said so.” She said it with a little bit too much hate in her voice, I decide to let her anger simmered
Would it be too presumptuous of me to say that she was jealous of Becca? Yeah, whatever…
“Look, I’m staying at your dad’s. And for the record Becca likes Demyan.” I whispered my last words from behind her.
“Right, and I need to know this why?” she asked with a higher pitch in her voice. She was obviously surprised, that I noticed her resentment towards Becca.
I decided not to answer, I just shrug at her. But moments later, she didn’t back away from my touch when I ushered her to the car and let her take her seat at the back.
I sat with Demyan upfront, as I needed to work and do some damage to my shooter. I started opening my laptop that Demyan handed me, just before I sit next to him.
I quickly hacked into the traffic cameras from the surrounding area and scanned the footage, looking at the time stamp, zooming in and out until I finally get the image that I was looking for.
Taking out my phone, I put it on speaker as I was calling Roman and Nikolai at the same time. I was hacking into the traffic cams and several office building CCTV while talking and typing in all the necessary codes.
“I’m sending you guys his coordinates.” There was silence from the other end, as I keep on typing my codes and breaking several government laws at the same time. I was rerouting several times, consecutively hiding my tracks until I informed them that they were nearing his position.
“He’s one car ahead of you…. wait, I’m breaking into his smart car. I’m making him pull over, his engine should be off in three, two, one… kill him for me, all traffic cams will go dark for three minutes. Thank you guys, and… I’m out.” I said casually, then sitting back in my seat.
“Smooth Luka… now I’m taking you both back home, boss had been calling me non stop,” Demyan said as he changed gear, and speed up the car.
I sighed and rest my head back, the tension was getting to me and my head was pounding. The adrenaline had started to fade, my wound was starting to throb.
God! When will this end?
