Chapter 516
Charles and Noelle had a bit of a routine when it came to getting to the office they would take turns to come in. Charles could not sway Noelle, so they ended up coming to work separately, much to his annoyance. However, Noelle was tough as nails, and Charles, eager for a peaceful night's sleep in the master bedroom, caved in.
While Charles zipped up to the twenty-seventh floor through a less-traveled route, Noelle strode through the main entrance and bumped into Ronald. Ronald gave her a curious once-over, and as they stepped into the elevator, he shot her a couple of extra glances. Noelle just flashed a small, knowing smile and gave a nod. "Mr. Wells, got something on your mind?"
"Ms. Shaw, you're alone today?" Ronald's voice was low, mindful of the audience they had. Noelle chuckled. "What, I can't come to work on her own? Do I need an escort or something?"
Ronald caught on quickly and nodded with a smirk. "Point taken."
"This is me." Noelle gestured to her floor. "Catch up soon!"
Ronald watched her go, nodding to himself in silent agreement.
J had become the office joke after yesterday's mishap, and now she was the hot gossip topic during coffee breaks. The crew was not too thrilled about this big shot who had been dropped in from above, and since it seemed Charles was not giving J any special treatment, they felt a newfound boldness around her.
J felt like she was on an island, all alone, even though she was technically on the bustling twenty-seventh floor. Her world was tiny there. Becky, the head honcho of the Secretaries, called the shots and handed out the assignments, leaving J with only the oh-so-exciting task of report review.
She had tried to stand up to Becky a few times, but it was like talking to a brick wall. Becky would not budge. Now, stuck under Becky's thumb, J did not dare rock the boat. Instead, she followed Clarisse's advice, trying to win Becky over, but today, getting anywhere near Charles's office, let alone catching a glimpse of Charles himself, was a no-go.
J was beyond frustrated, and Becky? She was not the type you could win over with a latte or a nicely wrapped present. Despite J's attempts -drinks, gifts, you name it-Becky was not having any of it.
By lunchtime, J was bolting downstairs to spill her woes to Clarisse. "Aunt Clary, why is Charles doing this to me? Can't he get over Kelly Anderson already?"
Clarisse was quick to shut that down. "Absolutely not. I know Charles. If you betray him once, you're out for good. Kelly made a fool of him, and there's no way he's holding a torch for her after all that. If he were, he would not have stayed single all this time, would he?"
Clarisse gave J's hand a reassuring pat. "Hang in there for a bit longer, okay? Charles is going to notice how amazing you are."
J was skeptical, her brows knitting together. "But I can't even get a glimpse of Charles now. How's he supposed to notice anything good about me?" She bit her lip, a troubled look crossing her face. "Auntie, do you think... Charles might've found someone else?"

aback, but she quickly shook her
head. "No way Have you ever seen any other gir hanging around Charles? haven't heard a thing, and neither have the Hoffmans or the Harrises. You're just overthinking it. Stick it out a little longer, and if it still does not work out, I'll come up with a new plan. Remember, Um always on your team." With a gentle smile, Clarisse coaxed J. "You're upset. I get it. How about we grab a bite to eat? A little food might cheer you up, and then we can come back here."
