The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 89

Chapter 89

A month had passed, and Cordelia along with her two other colleagues were moved back from Lumos

Plaza to their original office.

Upon hearing that Cordelia had turned down the Audit Department position, Jordan was over the

moon. The day Cordelia returned, he wanted to promote her to Finance Manager right away. As long

as she stayed under his wing, he'd be at peace.

Winter was knocking on the door and all of Cordelia's winter clothes were still at her mother's house.

On Saturday, while visiting her mother, Trina asked her to bring some stuff for her mom. Cordelia

thought it would be a good opportunity to sort out her clothes while she was there.

Her home was an old building with no elevator. On her way up, Cordelia twisted her ankle badly. Her

right foot swelled up like a balloon.

She had planned to soothe it with hot water once she got home. But when she opened the door, she

got the shock of her life.

Her brother, Adrian, was stark naked, getting it on with a woman right in the living room.

Cordelia averted her eyes and tried to leave, but they seemed to have zero fucks to give about her

presence.

"Adrian, who's this? Why does she have your house keys? Don't tell me you're screwing me over…"

The woman said sarcastically while wrapping a towel around herself nonchalantly.

"Kendra, what the hell are you on about? That's my sister. She works at Lumos Enterprises, and her

husband is Ronan, some rich dude." Adrian retorted. He had been holding a grudge since Cordelia

tricked him out of his money last time. He was hell-bent on payback.

"Are you guys dressed yet? I need to sort out some stuff in my room." Cordelia spoke with her back

turned to them, feeling extremely awkward.

"Aren't you the boss lady at Lumos Enterprises? Why do you need to sort out your clothes? You could

just buy a few mink coats; they're super trendy. You're too frugal to be a rich man's wife." Adrian's

girlfriend, Kendra, jabbed at her, leaving Cordelia perplexed.

Kendra then turned to Adrian and said, "Didn't you say Ronan's grandpa was sick? I've been thinking

that your sister seems more like a nursemaid that Ronan brought home!"

Kendra's snide remarks weren't because of Adrian, but because Cordelia was the woman Jamie loved,

and she, Kendra, was smitten with Jamie.

"Cordelia, weren't you pregnant? How come you don't look pregnant at all? Were you lying about being

pregnant last time? If you've lost the child, your sham marriage wouldn't last, would it? If you really got

married, why didn't Ronan buy you new clothes and make you come back for your old ones? Where's

the money I gave you last time? Give it back!" Adrian extended his hand for the money.

"If you're so sure it's a sham marriage, you should know that Ronan's wealth isn't mine. I don't have

any money. You can run to Grandpa again; let's see if he believes you this time." Cordelia retorted and

then went into her room.

She limped as she walked.

After seeing this, Kendra couldn't resist another jab. "Who would've thought that Lumos Enterprises'

Mr. Evans would marry a cripple?!"

"You misunderstood my sister. I guess she just twisted her ankle. She's fine. Even if Ronan's eyesight

is poor, it's not that poor." Adrian added.

Adrian had told Kendra about Cordelia several times. He knew he couldn't gain anything from her, let

alone from Ronan. They wouldn't give him a dime, so he had to resort to sarcasm.

"I also twisted my ankle, darling..." Kendra, still wrapped in a towel, twisted her ankle playfully. "Carry

me!"

"Sure." Adrian agreed and swept Kendra into his arms.

Cordelia chose to ignore them. She acted as if she hadn't seen their earlier antics and continued to

pack her clothes. NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.

"Would Ronan do this for you? Don't think I'm belittling you, but with your behavior, you're more like

Ronan's hired help. You have to play the granddaughter-in-law for his grandpa and take care of him.

Rich folks are always scheming." Kendra continued her mocking. "How much does he pay you every

month? Does he let you use that money to hire a caregiver for your mom? Don't you feel pathetic?

Look at how much better your brother treats me."

Kendra was venomous. Adrian knew why, but he kept quiet. After all, she was speaking his mind.

"By the way, do you have the guts to call Ronan? I'd love to see if he'd come to carry his injured sister-

in-law downstairs. You're already Mrs. Evans, and you're still wearing your old clothes. You're really

degrading yourself." Adrian said as he took a drag of his cigarette with a smug look on his face.

"You should call Ronan." Kendra added.

Cordelia didn't know why Kendra kept urging her to call Ronan, but she knew both Adrian and Kendra

were up to no good.

Cordelia didn't give a damn about what they said.

Of course, a significant reason was that she didn't dare call Ronan. She knew he wouldn't come, and

she didn't want to bother him.

Just as Cordelia finished packing her clothes, her phone rang. It was Ronan.
