The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 25

It's going to be a while before I am used to having a mate. It feels like some alternate reality, I keep expecting to wake up from it at any moment and be back in my old room. Part of me doesn't believe that I deserve anything so perfect. Elijah woke me up this morning by stroking my hair and planting soft kisses on my cheek. He was already dressed and ready for the day. He kissed me a few more times before he told me to get ready while he made us breakfast. When I got downstairs Elijah already had the food laid out on our kitchen table ready for us. While I was eating he got me to tell him everything I knew about my powers, which admittedly wasn't much.

When I told him that I could hear his thoughts I could see the panic on his face. His thoughts were all over the place, his panic was making them unfocused and I couldn't keep up with them in the jumble. He was frowning. He didn't look angry, just very unhappy. Maybe I should have told him sooner, this wasn't good. My heart was racing as I watched him trying to come to terms with what I had told him.

"Is this why you freaked out when we first met?" He asked.

I nodded my head. The concern over his reaction made my throat too dry for me to speak.

"That makes more sense. I might not be good with women but I didn't think I was that bad." He said.

"I have no complaints." I said, thinking about last night and the night before.

When I wasn't hearing things that I shouldn't be straight from his brain he was a perfect gentleman. Maybe if I wasn't so insecure then I wouldn't have shouted at him and run out when we first met. "That's good to know because I am yours forever now." He said, leaning over to kiss me on my cheek.

He sat back in his seat and took a long sip of his coffee. I could hear his mind racing, trying to work something out. It would be easy for me to hear his thoughts but ever since I woke up I have been trying really hard not to and I didn't want to stop that now.

I found that if I concentrated on something else then his thoughts would become a background murmur. A bit like when you are reading and someone is trying to have a conversation with you. It isn't perfect but at least it is something. "So this information that your mom hid could help you understand your powers better?" Elijah asked.

"That is what the note said." I replied.

"Let's go get it then." He said.

He drained the coffee left in his cup then jumped to his feet.

"What about school?" I asked.

He laughed.

"I am sure you can catch up tomorrow, you can just add it to what you missed yesterday." He said.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

I didn't really have any come back for that. I finished my coffee and the last bite of toast on my plate before getting to my feet and following him out of the door.

It was a long drive to the pack I was born in but it didn't feel like it. Elijah played music from his phone and we spent the whole time getting to know each other better. Up to this point we had barely had the time to speak to each other. The times when we were alone we were so busy trying to get into each other's clothes that everything else took a back seat.

Now that we were really talking I could see why the moon goddess chose him as my mate. We had a lot of things in common despite our very different upbringing and dress sense. We liked a lot of the same music and films. We both liked spending time outside and we even had a lot of the same views on political and philosophical issues. I was sure that we would make a great partnership.

Maybe I could even do something about his dress sense. Those plain suits just had to go. I know he was trying to look professional but they ended up making him look boring. Like today for example, he was wearing a white shirt and grey three piece suit. It fit him perfectly but it needed more colour urgently.

It was almost lunchtime by the time that we reached the border for my old pack. The whole area was empty now, after what had happened to my old pack most of our kind thought the area was cursed. Even rogues didn't want to claim the land. That meant that the whole area looked exactly as it would have the day before my parents were killed. Only nature had now taken back control of the area.

Plants had started to grow up through the roads and into the buildings. There were even young trees starting to grow where there weren't trees before. In another twenty or thirty years this place would probably be fully taken back by the forest and all that would remain would be the ruins of some of the bigger buildings and a few piles of rubble.

Elijah parked up in front of my parents house. It was still beautiful even after all these years. I felt a lump forming in my throat. I knew it would be difficult coming here again but I didn't know how hard it would hit me.

Elijah glanced over at me. On seeing the look on my face he leaned over and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

"I will be with you every step of the way." He said.

He held me for a couple more seconds before letting go and getting out of the car. He waited for me to get out of the way and lead him into the house. Even though I hadn't been here for over ten years I still knew exactly where my room was. Those damn dreams that plagued me for most of my life wouldn't exactly let me forget.

Everything in my room was exactly as we had left it that night. I stood in the doorway to my room not exactly knowing where to start, the letter only said that the key would be here but it didn't tell me where.

I closed my eyes and started going through my memories of this room and my parents. I was trying to think of anything that was out of place or special. I thought of all the stories that my mom used to tell me. Most of them were nothing, just fairy tales but there was one that she used to tell me all the time about werewolves.

I was too young at the time to understand what werewolves were or that they were different but she told me this story anyway. Every time she did she took a music box out of the walk-in wardrobe, that had to be it.

I walked over to the wardrobe and started looking. There wasn't much in here, just a few of my clothes from when I was little. I couldn't see the music box but I was sure this is where my mom would get it from when she would tell me the story.

I started knocking on the walls, looking for any false walls. I made it about half of the way around the area when I noticed an area in the corner where the carpet wasn't properly attached to the floor.

I walked over to it and peeled the carpet back. The floorboards underneath were loose so I lifted them up as well to reveal the music box that I was looking for. I picked it up and took it through to the bedroom, placing it carefully on the bed. "Is that it? Is the key in there?" Elijah asked.

"I think....... Fuck." I said.

Elijah smirked.

"We can do that if you like." He said.

"No, there are five werewolves approaching the house." I said.
