Chapter 281
Chapter 281
Sophia was scolding an employee harshly with a furious expression on her face.
"Are you deaf? Didn't I tell you that you have to arrange them in a specific way? You never listen to what we've told you. Just quit if you don't care about your job here, many other people are waiting to take your place after all!"
Paige frowned as soon as she noticed that Sophia was wearing the company's uniform
It was evident that Sophia was working in the company that Natalie had built up.
Liam had worn off whatever respect Paige had left for him by letting his out-of-wedlock child work at Natalie's company.
Paige's face fell and Abbie, as her best friend, wasn't very happy to see Sophia acting so snobbish either.
She seized the opportunity to bring Sophia down.
Abbie scoffed as she strode over to Sophia, "Look who's here. Isn't this Miss Martin who enjoys stealing others' boyfriends and bad-mouthing about others? What are you doing here acting all high and mighty?"
Sophia choked on her own words when she heard Abbie.
Her face turned red in an instance as she scowled at Abbie, "Why are you here?"
Abbie grinned, "You're only an illegitimate child whose mother was a home-wrecking wh*re. Who are you to question me when the real heir of the company hasn't spoken up?"
It was then that Sophia noticed Paige. The colour drained away from her face as she asked Paige, "Why are you here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Paige stared at Sophia coldly, "Why don't you enlighten me?"
"Dad needed a director for the Design Department, and I came because I majored in design. Why? Did no one inform you about it?" Sophia retorted.
Sophia only needed a few seconds to recover from the initial shock to see Paige in the office building. She was acting so obnoxious that even a fool could understand her aggressive undertone.
Paige hissed through her gritted teeth, "You? Are you sure you're qualified?" Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"Apparently yes, Dad was the one who hired me anyways," Sophia shrugged.
Paige's lack of concern just drove Abbie up the wall. "Paige? How are you this calm?"
"Miss Cook, this is a family matter. Keep your nose to yourself," Sophia replied as she was unruffled by Abbie's anger.
"What can you do about it if I chose not to?" Abbie scorned. "You'd better watch your tongue, or else I have a hundred ways to make your life miserable. Try me."
Of course, Sophia wouldn't try Abbie's patience because Aiden could skin her alive if she did so.
Abbie turned to Paige once she had subdued Sophia.
"Paige, go up to confront your dad about it right now. He has gone too far this time to let his illegitimate daughter to hold such a position... What is he thinking!?"
"Mr. Anderson isn't around," Liam's assistant said as he rushed to them from the entrance.
He knew what was going on between the three women just from a glance. He nodded to Paige and Abbie as he tried to smooth things over, "Miss Anderson, Miss Cook. To what do we owe the pleasure to have both of you here?"
"Where is Dad if he's not in the office?" Paige asked.
"Mr. Anderson is in a meeting with a customer, and he sent me back to get some files," The assistant answered dutifully. "By the way, weren't you abroad, Miss Anderson? When did you come back?"
Paige scrutinised the assistant's every micro-expression, and it didn't seem like he was lying. She suppressed her annoyance and replied, "This morning."
"I see... Do you want to visit the office then?" he asked.
"There's no point if Dad isn't around," Paige shook her head. "I'll leave now."
The assistant nodded before walking Paige and Abbie to the front door to see them off, and he only returned to the lobby after their car drove out of his sight.
Sophia was waiting for him in the lobby. She pulled a long face and asked in displeasure once she saw him, "Why did you lie? Dad's in his office, isn't he?"
The assistant glanced at her and answered impatiently, "Miss Martin, what do you think will happen if Miss Paige and Miss Cook went upstairs? They'll fight with Mr. Anderson. Do you want to see that?"
Of course, Sophia would be glad to see that, but she couldn't tell the assistant the truth.
She let out a long breath and answered, "No. But Paige will know that I work in the company sooner or later, right?"
"Mr. Anderson has his plans. Miss Martin, please do not act rashly and spoil his plans," He said before turning to leave her without waiting for her reply.
Sophia glared at his back. She already knew that the assistant didn't take her seriously simply by how he addressed her and Paige.
He addressed Paige as surname 'Anderson', yet he was still calling Sophia by her last name.
Sophia swore to herself, "Just wait, I'll make sure to get back my position one day."
By then, she was sure that Paige would be facing humiliation and a ruined reputation.
Meanwhile, Joseph sat behind the desk in the president's office for the Wolf International Group. James stood across the desk, "Joseph, I've collected a sample of Liam's DNA. What should I do next?"
Joseph frowned, "Send his sample along with Paige's to a paternity test center later. I think Liam swapped her DNA with someone else's when he did the test previously.
"Why would he do that?" James was surprised. "Could it be that he thinks that Miss Anderson isn't his daughter? That's crazy!"
"It was confusing to me at first, but it isn't impossible. He's capable of doing these things" Joseph said grimly.
Joseph looked troubled, "What will he do if the paternity test showed that she isn't his biological daughter?"
James immediately knew where Joseph was coming from. He replied, "He's already ignoring her right now, so he won't show her any forgiveness is Paige isn't his daughter by blood. Now that Miss Anderson is the major shareholder of the Anderson Group, he'll definitely try to get his hands on the shares first."
"That's right. We must do anything we can to prevent that from happening," Joseph sighed.
James nodded, "Alright, I'll arrange for the test immediately."
Joseph gave a small plastic bag with a few strands of Paige's hair to James and ordering, "I need to know the results soon, so get them to come up with the results as soon as possible!"
