Chapter 350 Exposed
Amelie’s confident tone instantly piqued Coffey’s interest.
“You’ve got something up your sleeve. What do you need me to do?”
“Simple! Dangle the carrot and she’ll bite!”
A sly grin spread across Amelie’s face. This time she was going to attack by surprise.
Amelie had planned to take it easy for a couple of days, but to her surprise, someone showed up at the door.
She peered over curiously to find none other than her opponent standing there. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Ms. Aylward, what brings you here? Did you come to see me?”
“Of course, you’re my cousin’s fiancée anyway. I don’t know how you managed to get yourself hurt. Are you feeling better now?”
“Thank you for your concern, Ms. Aylward. I’m doing much better.”
Amelie replied with a faint smile.
“That’s good to hear. But I can’t help but wonder what happened to Ms. Cisneros. It’s quite unlucky -to get caught in a fire for no reason. Maybe I should find you a fortune-teller who can give you an accurate reading so there won’t be any surprises in the future.”
Leila said with feigned innocence.
Amelie smirked inwardly but said nothing. Instead, she shot Coffey a look of annoyance.
Then she looked over, took out her phone, and made a call.
Just then, Leila’s phone rang-
It disrupted the silence in the room.
Amelie smiled and hung up her phone.
“As I suspected, that phone is yours.”
As soon as she spoke, the ringing stopped.
“What are you talking about?” Leila played dumb and calmly put away her phone.
“Ms. Aylward, sometimes it’s best not to keep up appearances. I’ve already seen through your charade. Why bother pretending?”
“You seem to have all the answers. It surprises me that you’re so clever. I assumed you’d be in the dark until the very end.”
Leila scoffed, rising to her feet and staring at him helplessly.
“Well, Ms. Cisneros, it’s a shame you only found out now. Do you know I want to deal with you? It’s because I see the shadow of my enemy in you. You claim your name is Elena, yet your past decade is a blank slate. Care for an explanation?”
Leila tossed a file onto the bed with a flourish.
“Take a look for yourself. If you want me to let you off the hook, sign this letter to abandon the partnership. We can still be amicable relatives.”
Amelie remained silent, picking up the file and giving it a cursory glance.
“I never would have guessed. So, this is your true objective, Ms. Aylward. I thought you had some more cunning tricks up your sleeve.”
Casually, she flung the document to the floor.
“I’m afraid your plan won’t fly, Ms. Aylward. No matter how much you attempt to intimidate me, you’ll need to ask Mr. Byron if he agrees. After all, it was Mr. Aylward who assigned him to collaborate with me. Are you really prepared to go after your fiancé?”
Amelie laughed.
“What does any of this have to do with you? All you need to do is sign this contract termination agreement. My boyfriend is none of your concern.”
“Is that so? Regrettably, I won’t be signing that. You’ll have to devise another strategy, Ms. Aylward.”
“Argh! This is a classic case of refusing to take the hint!”
Leila was livid, lunging toward Amelie with the intent to strike.
However, at that very moment, the ward door swung open once more.
Amelie looked over and saw it was Coffey coming in.
“Ms. Aylward? What brings you here? Could it be that you’re gracious enough to pay a visit to my fiancée?”
The moment Coffey stepped in, Leila felt the pressure.
“Cousin? Why are you here? I thought…”
Leila forced an awkward smile.
“What are you getting at? Are you suggesting that my fiancée and I don’t really love each other? You seem a little too invested in our relationship.”
Coffey said bluntly as he placed the fruit he had brought on the table.
“Elena, I brought you some fresh fruit. I made sure to get all your favorites.”
Leila was seething with anger but could only stand there helplessly, too embarrassed to speak.
“Since you’re here, I’ll take my leave.”
Leila hastily made her excuses and left.
Coffey paid her no mind and continued to peel an apple.
The sound of the door closing echoed through the room, but Coffey remained unfazed. Amelie, however, got up from the bed.
“Drop the act! She’s gone.” Amelie said calmly.
“What act? These are my true feelings,” Coffey replied innocently.
“Are you still going to deny it? What about the task I gave you? I didn’t expect Leila to be so eager. She came to me and asked me to sign a contract termination agreement. What do you think she’s up to?”
Amelie walked over to the window with a heavy heart.
She hadn’t seen Lamont for days and had no idea what he was doing now or if something had happened to him.
“Are you worried about this project or Lamont?”
Coffey’s expression soured as he spoke with annoyance.
“What kind of nonsense is that? Of course, I’m worried about the project. I don’t want all my hard work to go to waste.”
“Well, since you put it that way, there’s not much else I can say. Everything has been taken care of. Don’t worry, it’ll all work out.”
Coffey finally relented.
“Alright, if that’s how it is, then it’s time for me to make my move.”
Three days later, Amelie was discharged from the hospital, and Coffey came to pick her up.
“Everything is set.”
Coffey spoke calmly in the car.
“Okay. Just take me to the press conference. I’ll give Leila a surprise she won’t forget.”
At that moment, excitement buzzed through the Aylward Group headquarters.
In the lobby on the ground floor, a stage had been set up and the room was packed with reporters.
The press conference being held that day was to announce the engagement of Leila and Lamont.
As soon as the news broke, it caught the attention of many people and reporters.
Soon they arrived at the office building of the Aylward Group.
Amelie stepped out of the car and calmly surveyed the towering edifice before her.
Today was going to be a turning point.
Coffey followed her to get out of the car and took her hand. Together, they stróde into the hall.
The press conference was already underway.
Lamont maintained a stony expression throughout and didn’t utter a word.
It was Leila who did all the talking, her face alight with joy.
– Many journalists offered their congratulations.
“Today truly is a wonderful day. I never expected to encounter such delightful news.”
Amelie’s voice boomed across the hall and in an instant, all fell silent as curious eyes turned toward her.
“Who is she?”
“That’s right! Look! Is that Coffey next to that woman?”
One of the reporters recognized Coffey immediately.
In an instant, the audience erupted into an uproar.
