The substitute bride is a mute

Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Sally looked down her nose at Judy. Her arrogant face emitted a strong contempt toward Judy.

Sally yelled, "You've seen how Clark treated you. I don't care if you've replaced your sister and married into the Reid family. A disabled like you is not worthy of the title of 'Mrs. Reid'!

"And now you're trying to get close to my Dominic? Stop your daydreaming!"

"I never thought about getting close to Dominic. He's the doctor in charge of Grandma!" Judy quickly wrote in her notebook to explain. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

"Nonsense!" Sally slapped the notebook away in anger. Judy scurriedly picked it up off the floor.

"Lora, call a cab. Send her back to the Blake family right now! Tell them she's never allowed into the Reid manor again. Otherwise, they'll pay for this!" Sally snarled.

Sally's face glowed red from disdain as she ordered Lora to pack Judy's stuff and throw it out.

Lora had always wanted Judy out of the Reid manor. She hastily stuffed all of Judy's belongings into a suitcase, then dragged it toward the entrance.

Judy didn't have a lot of belongings to begin with. They barely filled the small luggage by the end.

Judy turned pale when she saw the luggage wasn't zipped tight. She stumbled toward the luggage in an attempt to take it from Lora.

Inside the luggage was the memento from her deceased mother.

Judy tried to say something but could only make illegible squeaks. She also tried signing, but no one could understand what she was doing.

The scuffle continued to the entrance of the house.

"Leave! Now!" Sally pointed at Judy's nose, veins pulsing on her temple.

Judy hurried to take her luggage, but Lora thought she didn't want to leave and pushed her out. "Ma'am already told you to leave! Why can't you listen to her?"

Judy slipped from the push and lost her balance. She screamed as she fell backward to the opened door.

She was expecting a sharp pain from falling, but a strong arm cradled her back and stopped the fall.

"What is going on here?" A cold voice asked.

Judy looked up toward the voice and saw Clark's stoic face under the flickering street light.

Someone was being expelled from the house, evident from the scattered luggage on the floor.

"The audacity you got. Who told you to do this?" Clark helped Judy up and asked in a gravelly voice.

"I-It's..." Lora trembled in fear while peeking at Sally for help.

Sally didn't expect Clark to return unexpectedly and felt a bit guilty. But she said, "Clark, this woman should not stay with us!

"The Blake family was fooling us by giving us this mute. We should never back down from this!"

"I'll decide if she should stay or not. No one else has the right to interfere," Clark replied. His voice wasn't loud but firm without any space for negotiation.

Sally was rarely in an awkward situation like this. Although everyone in the Reid family respected her because she was the one who raised Clark, her only weakness was also Clark, who she dared not to say much in front of.

Sally quickly lost her momentum and switched to persuasion. "Calm down, Clark. Marriage is not a child's play. Since you two haven't officially registered, technically, it still doesn't count."

Judy clenched her fist as a sliver of hope shined onto her.

The marriage between the Reid and the Blake family was unexpected. Although Judy herself couldn't get away from it, if Clark himself rejected the marriage, even Matthew couldn't say anything. And then, Judy could finally end the days of living anxiously with the Reid family.

Clark saw Judy's eyes lit with hope and frowned in anger. Was she looking forward to leaving the Reid family? How naïve!
