The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 165

Chapter 165

Christopher finally knew why Cecilia had such a good relationship with Evan.

Evan had given her warmth, shared his family with her, and let her lead a normal life.

If it had been someone else, they likely would have married him.

Christopher thought he was lucky that Cecilia only regarded Evan as her brother.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have learned the truth and wouldn’t have been able to find the boy who had

saved him.

Thinking of this, Christopher asked, “Ceci, do you know how The Frozen Rose came about?”

The conversation had taken a sudden and serious turn, leaving Cecilia dumbfounded.

“What?”

She thought they were talking about childhood, so the abrupt shift to a discussion about food had

caught her off guard.

Meeting Cecilia’s puzzled eyes, Christopher raised his hand and touched the tip of her nose.

“It’s because of you.”

“Me? Tell me about it.”

As soon as Cecilia finished speaking, she remembered that it had snowed on the day when she

delivered the message to Christopher.

Because it was near Christmas, she was wearing a red sweater.

“So that’s how The Frozen Rose came about,” she mused.

Christopher didn’t know that Cecilia had already made the right guess, so he proceeded to explain the

origin of The

Frozen Rose.

It was exactly what Cecilia had guessed.

“I didn’t expect you to be quite romantic, turning a life–changing past into a popular delicacy.”

However, for Christopher, there was no sense of romance, only regret.

If he had opted for the young boy over his own future back then, he wondered whether he could have

retained Cecilia by his side.

But if he raised her, they wouldn’t be lovers.

Thinking of this, he was relieved.

“Ceci, you were in my past, in my present, and will also be in my future. Thank you.”

He wanted to thank her for saving his life.

He wanted to thank her for choosing him.

He wanted to thank her for her willingness to spend the rest of her life with him.

Cecilia was not used to this sensational atmosphere, so she teased, “It’s just me everywhere. Don’t you

get tired of me?”

“Not at all. One will only feel annoyed if one doesn’t like the person.”

Conversely, if someone genuinely liked the person, annoyance would be far from their thoughts.

“You are so sweet. Why haven’t you found a girlfriend before?”

“Perhaps I’ve been waiting for you.”

While it might have sounded like sweet talk, Christopher’s words came straight from the depths of his

heart.

He held no romantic interest in any other women. Regardless of what they said or did, he couldn’t help

but feel annoyed by them.

Everything changed when Cecilia showed up.

He paid attention to her, investigated her, got to know her, and forced his way into her life…

Then he was granted the opportunity to sleep with Cecilia in his arms.

No one could refuse sweet talks, especially those coming from their sweethearts.

So did Cecilia.

She circled her hand around Christopher’s neck and kissed him on the lips.

Christopher cradled the back of Cecilia’s head and was about to deepen the kiss when his phone rang.

He didn’t want to answer, but Cecilia withdrew.

“Please answer the phone. Maybe it’s about those two men.”

Hearing this, Christopher was speechless.

“Ceci, are you still thinking about business in such an atmosphere?”

This made him seriously doubt his charm!

Cecilia nodded and said, “We should keep rational and sober at all times during the critical period.”

Then she picked up the phone from the bedside table and handed it to Christopher.

The call was from Anthony, the manager of Skyhaven Club. Indeed, Cecilia had gotten it right. It was

indeed a call of serious business.

Christopher answered the call immediately and asked, “Did you catch the men?”

“Yes, but they are not the person you are waiting for. They’re merely gangsters who do things for

money.”

The implication was that whoever employed those gangsters

was still lurking in the shadows.

“You have one day to dig up the person!”

“Yes, Mr. Christopher Forte.”

After hanging up the phone, Christopher looked at Cecilia who was frowning, and said, “Ceci, we’ve

obtained a lead on the mastermind. We’ll catch the person, sooner or later.”

Cecilia nodded and suddenly remembered something. She got out of bed directly.

“You should go to sleep first. I need to talk to Evan about something.”

Observing Cecilia’s hasty departure, Christopher also rose and draped the shirt he intended to wear

the next day over her shoulders.

“Don’t catch a cold.”

Cecilia was speechless.

She raised her eyebrows as if to ask, “Can your excuse be more ridiculous?”

It was a summer day now. It would be hard for her to catch a cold.

Christopher felt uneasy under Cecilia’s teasing gaze and cleared his throat softly.

“Go on, finish your conversation, and get some well–deserved rest.”

After saying that, he went to get his shirt.

However, Cecilia put on his shirt and left the bedroom quickly.

Christopher watched her retreating figure and suddenly felt that he had done something st* pid.

His shirt was longer than Cecilia’s two–piece pajamas put together.

Although it completely covered her upper body, the oversized

shirt made her exposed legs more S**y and attractive.

He finally knew why men liked women to wear their shirts because it was really S**y.

Without thinking too much, Cecilia came to Evan’s knocked on the door. “Evan, are you asleep?”

Hearing Cecilia’s voice, he immediately said, “I’m still up. Come in.”

Cecilia turned the doorknob and walked in.

The guest room was small. Evan could be seen sitting on the bed with the quilt pulled to his chest.

He understood it might be considered impolite, but he and Cecilia weren’t overly concerned with such

formalities.

“It’s so late. Is there something important?”

Cecilia walked to the bedside and sat down, nodding. “It’s important.”

Seeing her serious face, Evan asked with concern, “What’s the matter? Is it something that is difficult to

solve?”

“It’s not something that is difficult to solve. Jason left two sentences before he passed away that left me

slightly perplexed, and that’s why I’ve come to seek your insight.” Cecilia had wanted to speak with

Evan earlier, but he was on the plane, so she hadn’t had the opportunity.

She had conversed with Aiden but had received no response.

After Evan took over the case, he only had a general

understanding of what had occurred due to time limitations. He hadn’t delved into the specifics yet.

He looked at Cecilia, the smartest one in the family, and asked curiously, “What is it that you find

perplexing but I’m able to provide an insight?”

Cecilia told Evan about Jason’s last words.

“He said that no matter how clever I am, I won’t be able to guess who his master is. He also said that

the answer will

surprise me and the Shaw family.”

After recounting Jason’s final words, Cecilia asked, “Evan, do you know what these two sentences

mean?”

Evan’s expression became very serious when he heard Cecilia recounting Jason’s first sentence.

He didn’t answer but asked, “Ceci, what do you think?”

Cecilia didn’t answer immediately. After a long silence, she asked, “Is it related to Charlie?”

When Cecilia first joined the Shaw family, the second son of the Shaw family, Charlie Shaw, had long

gone.

After a long time, she came to discover that Charlie had been kidnapped at the age of five. The

kidnapper had not only demanded a ransom but also insisted that the Shaw family betray their own

country. Otherwise, Charlie would meet a grim fate.

The Shaw family remained loyal and was willing to pay the ransom but steadfastly refused to betray

their country.

The result was predictable. Charlie was killed in the end.
