The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 192

Chapter 192

Considering that Jackson’s shares were sold at a discount, Christopher accepted them all without

reservation.

More than 20 percent of the shares cost him less than 2 billion dollars.

That sum was a tad less than what Jackson had expected, but after adding it up to the real estate

selling value, it was enough to pay off his debt.

Only remnants of the money were left in his account–around 20 to 40 million dollars.

That said, a pittance in his eyes might be worth a lifetime of living expenses for an average family out

there.

For people like the Yancey family, who were used to living a luxurious life, it would only last them a

month, at most.

Jackson was not in the mood to dwell on that. After getting his hands on the money, paying off the

liquidated damages was the first thing he did.

As for the rest, he would have to wait until he sold off his real estate.

At that time, Christopher had appointed his personal lawyer, Anthony, to transfer Cecilia the shares of

Chrystilia Corporation.

He gazed at Cecilia having some shut–eye moments upon his shoulder and planted a kiss on her

smooth forehead.

“Ceci, Chrystilia Corporation belongs to you now.”

She alone owned more than 80 percent of the company shares, thus having the final say in Chrystilia

Corporation.

Opening her eyes, Cecilia looked into Christopher’s deep eyes.

“When everything is settled, I want to nominate my comrades who had fallen in my stead for some of

the shares.”

“It’s your call to decide for your company. You don’t need to ask for my permission.”

“What mine is also yours, so of course, we’ll need to discuss it together. Besides, it’s thanks to you that

we got back most of the shares of Chrystilia Corporation.”

If it had not been for Christopher’s intervention, she could not have claimed the throne of Yancey

Corporation without a hitch.

That elicited a grin on Christopher’s face. “Whatever your endeavor may

be, I’ll support you unconditionally.”

Cecilia lowered her gaze, beholding the man’s alluring Adam’s apple. Sitting there was a crimson– NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

colored hickey, both suggestive and seductive.

She reached out and tried to stroke it.

Christopher grabbed Cecilia by the hand and uttered, “Quit moving around, Ceci. Get some more rest.”

The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed gently right under the pulp of Cecilia’s finger.

It would quiver a little whenever the man made a peep, driving Cecilia’s heart to skip a beat altogether.

The woman withdrew her hand and scooted toward the car door,

pillowing on Christopher’s lap and wrapping her arms around his sturdy

waist.

Her warm breath was huffed all over Christopher’s waist. It was so ticklish that his body stiffened.

Discontent, Cecilia pinched the man by the waist and chided, “Relax. You’re making me

uncomfortable.”

Hanging his head low, Christopher took a gander at Cecilia being flirtatious yet unbeknownst to herself

and smiled helplessly.

He summoned all his might to loosen up, turning a blind eye to how Cecilia had made him feel.

Soon enough, the convoy made it out of downtown Quilton and onto the provincial road.

Sensing the surroundings turning quiet, Cecilia opened her eyes and looked out the window.

“This part of the provincial route leading to the highway is way more treacherous than the rest. We

ought to pay more heed to-”

Before she could finish saying her piece, a loud crash thundered.

A heavy–duty cement truck had gone out of control and crashed into the frontmost car, and the car she

was in came to an abrupt halt.

As she reached out to press against the back of the front seat, Christopher shielded her hand with one

hand while wrapping the other around her waist to keep her from slipping off the seat.

Immediately, Cecilia sat up and looked ahead through the windshield.

Because her sight was hindered, she could not get a clear view of the frontmost car. All she could see

was the cement truck still accelerating in their direction.

Anyone could tell that it must be intentional.

Noticing the other car in front being pushed back and about to collide with the one Cecilia was in, the

tires of the cement truck suddenly went flat before the whole truck flipped over.

Just like that, a truck weighing dozens of tons slammed into the ground, quaking even the earth.

Instead of getting out of the car right away, Christopher first made a

phone call to ask about the situation in front.

“Mr. Christopher Forte, someone punctured the tires of the cement truck. One of our vehicles is

damaged beyond repair, and one of our own is badly injured, but the crisis has been averted.”

As soon as the bodyguard finished speaking, a bullet hit him in the arm.

Had he not sensed the imminent danger and dodged fast enough, that bullet would have pierced his

heart instead.

The phone dropped to the ground, but luckily, it was not broken.

He squatted down, covering his wounded arm, and blurted out in a hurry, “Mr. Christopher Forte, they

may have more than one accomplice, and they’re armed. You must stay in the car with Ms. Yancey.”

Then came Christopher’s command. “Inform the rest–hide and stay still. Someone else will deal with

the gunner.”

“Understood, Mr. Christopher Forte.”

The sound of gunfire merely echoed for a few seconds before the air fell into a pin–drop silence.

It was then that Cecilia received a call from Evan. “The threat has been put out, Ceci. You and

Christopher can continue hitting the road. I’ll wrap things up.”

“Be safe, Evan.”

“The person behind this has put a bounty on your head, so it’s you who needs to watch your back. No

matter what happens, don’t ever get out of the car, you hear?”

Cecilia dared not give the man her word.

Should Christopher’s men be in danger and she could do something to

rescue them, standing idly by would be the last thing she did.

“Don’t worry about me, Evan. I know what to do?

Hearing that statement, Evan replied helplessly. No matter what your own safety must come first

“I understand.”

Soon after the call was over, the convoy set out again.

The overturned cement truck simply lay on the roadside like a behemoth.

The window on the driver’s side was stained with blood, and by the looks of it, the driver must either be

seriously wounded or gone with the wind. The crushed car was parked aside with its frontal part had

already been smashed flat. Plus, the windshield had shattered all over like cobwebs with subtle traces

of blood.

Cecilia retracted her gaze, directing her line of sight toward Christopher who looked downcast.

“How many of your men were injured? Is it serious?”

“Three of them were injured–two slightly hurt while the other more severe. Fret not, the people

arranged by Evan will get them to the hospital for treatment.”

“We already lost three of us upon exiting the city. Who knows how many of us will be left when we get

to Acocester

Christopher held Cecilia’s hand and comforted her. What matters is you’re safe. Their mission is to protect you

He did not want anything to happen to his men, but more than anything he did not want anything to

happen to Cecilia

Cecilia nodded understandingly and said affirmatively, I won’t let anything happen to myself”

Before they got on the highway, the convoy was under attack once more.

That time around, the damage was even greater with three cars scrapped a dozen of them hurt, and

one casualty.

Things soon came to an end. As the convoy pressed on with their odyssey, Cecilia saw fresh blood all

over the ground and the bodyguards helping one another up

Cecilia clenched her fists and vowed in her heart that she would nab the mastermind and completely

destroy their inhumane cult.

Likewise, Christopher was equally heavy–hearted.

Never would he enjoy being a punching bag. Because of that, he began racking his brain, planning to

lull the enemy.

Soon enough, an idea popped into his head.

Since he had been able to ask someone to fake Fiona’s identity back then, he reckoned that getting

Cecilia a doppelganger might work just as well.

However, that scheme of his could not be put into action on the spot, not until they arrived at

Acocester.

The convoy sped all the way once they were on the highway.

As the scenery on both sides of the road passed by the window, Cecilia’s depression dissipated.

Due to safety concerns, the convoy did not stop at any rest area.

Even so, when they got close to Acocester, a series of tailgating still occurred.

Not only did that affect Christopher’s convoy, but it also involved the other innocent motorcars.

Many cars rolled over, and some even ran over the highway guardrail.

Cecilia would have suffered some serious injury had it not been for the anti–collision system of the car

she was in.

The entire highway was in chaos. Endless screams and wails filled the air,

Anxious, Cecilia asked Christopher, “Did you bring along first–aid kits?”

Given that there were simply too many of them wounded, not to mention the severe cases in some of

them, their lives would be at stake. should they not receive proper treatment in time.

As both a veteran and a skilled doctor, she could not watch them suffer

from the sidelines.
