The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

The boy inhaled a mouthful of dust and was about to curse, but after seeing the license plate number,

he immediately shut up. The owner of a limited–edition luxury car with a license plate number bearing

five nines in a row was someone he could not afford to mess with.

He did not know if he was imagining things, but he felt a chill run down his spine as the car zoomed

past.

The person beside him suddenly said, “If I recall correctly, this car belongs to the new CEO of Forte

Group.”

“Christopher? The illegitimate child who only took three years to bring Forte Group to its knees?”

Everyone stayed away from the fool who muttered those words so as to save themselves from trouble.

“Shut up. Don’t drag us into this.”

After saying that, the guys fled the scene.

One had to know that nobody here had ever seen

Christopher’s face so far, but many people had lost their families and fortune because of him.

Meanwhile, Christopher withdrew his gaze and addressed his assistant, Solomon, who was driving the

car. “Investigate the guy who was bothering Cecilia earlier.”

Solomon immediately replied, “Yes, Mr. Forte.”

The car quickly stopped in front of the instructors‘ building.

The vice–chancellor, Howard Lewis, had already removed all irrelevant people from the premises to

protect Christopher’s privacy.

When Christopher’s car came to a complete stop, Howard personally came forward and opened the

door respectfully.

Seeing a young man coming out of the car, he was a little confused and called out hesitantly, “Mr.

Forte?”

Christopher nodded with a cold expression.

Howard was stunned. He didn’t expect Christopher to be so young and handsome.

Although Christopher was well known, he had never revealed his face in public. Outsiders had no idea

what he looked like at all.

Since Fabian Forte was well in his seventies, everyone assumed Christopher was an illegitimate child

who was at least forty years old. They also believed he was an extremely ugly and merciless person.

Otherwise, there was no reason for Christopher to shy away from the public eye.

He also had no reason to avoid marriage.

But when Howard saw Christopher in the flesh, he realized how erroneous the public speculations

were.

Putting aside his thoughts, he immediately came back to his senses and made a welcoming gesture

toward Christopher.

“Mr. Forte, this way please.”

Christopher went to Howard’s office and sat at the latter’s desk as if he was the host.

Howard didn’t dare to say anything and made him a cup of the new Black Ivory coffee produced that

year.

“Mr. Forte, I didn’t expect you to visit in person. Please forgive me for not preparing some coffee in

advance.”

Christopher was a walking money bag. Only by serving the man well could Christopher possibly

consider investing in the music department.

“If I can get an investment from him, I’ll definitely become the next chancellor of the university,” thought

Fabian.

Christopher’s finger ended up on the rim of the cup, where he nonchalantly traced circles around it. His

finger was soon covered with the faint fragrance of coffee.

He asked, “Is the accident in the school auditorium a genuine accident, or was it staged?”

Howard didn’t know why Christopher asked about the accident, but he still explained things truthfully.

“The police have investigated it. It was a genuine accident.”

“Bring the investigation materials here.”

“Mr. Forte, the information is in the hands of the chancellor and the police. I don’t have it here, but I can

assure you that this accident was definitely not a project quality problem, but because the later

maintenance of the equipment was too perfunctory.”

The accident attracted the school’s attention, and management hired dedicated staff members to keep

an eye on future maintenance to ensure the accident would never happen again. Christopher suddenly

looked up at Howard and said coldly, “Bring the materials here. Then, we can talk about the

investment.”

He had to confirm whether it was an accident or a set–up.

“If it was a set–up, was it targeted at Cecilia?” thought Christopher.

Howard had no choice but to call the police and request them to fax the information over.

After Christopher received the information, he stood up and declared, “Let’s go to the music

department.”

Hearing this, Howard knew an investment was still possible. His excitement was, nonetheless, tinged

with some concern.

He asked cautiously, “Mr. Forte, do you need us to clear all your routes?”

Although the university was closed for its anniversary celebration, most students didn’t leave the

campus because they were preparing for their upcoming final exam.

Many students were reviewing their work in the academic buildings or milling about the walkways

leading there. Ushering them all out of Christopher’s path was going to be a major project.

Christopher walked out of Howard’s office and replied, “There’s no need.”

Howard heaved a sigh of relief and followed quickly.

Ten minutes ago, Cecilia entered the music department.

Naturally, she didn’t know about Christopher’s visit to Quilton University.

After entering the academic building, Cecilia heard everyone gossiping about how William had cheated

on Juliana.

It was even more heavily discussed than when Cecilia had been slandered by Juliana as William’s

mistress.

“I didn’t expect Juliana’s fiancé to commit adultery before their marriage. She’s basically the perfect

fiancée!” said one student.

“I know, right? More importantly, those women are inferior to Juliana in terms of appearance and family

background,” replied another.

“Well, the grass is always greener on the other side.”

“If I were Juliana, I wouldn’t dare to go out now. It would be too embarrassing for me to be compared

with those other women!” chimed in yet another student.

“Do you guys think Juliana will break off the engagement?”

“It has been two days, and Juliana hasn’t reacted. She definitely won’t break off the engagement,”

someone replied.

Cecilia said nothing.

She was absorbed in eavesdropping on the gossip when she

heard rapid footsteps behind her.

She looked back.

A cute girl with chubby cheeks ran up to her and said uncertainly, “Ceci?”

girl and ignored her. Yvette didn’t expect that the striking beauty in front of her was really none other Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

than the country bumpkin, Cecilia.

She hurriedly introduced herself, saying, “Ceci, my name is Yvette Yates. I sat in the row behind you at

Quilton University’s anniversary celebration. If you hadn’t saved me, I would have died.”

Cecilia suddenly recalled Yvette was sitting behind her in the auditorium during the anniversary

celebration.

If she hadn’t acted, something horrible would have happened to Yvette.

She had not expected that the person she saved was the youngest daughter of the Yates family, one of

the Three Prominent Families of Quilton.

Rich families tended to come with a lot of drama. Cecilia didn’t want to get herself involved with that.

Thus, she replied coldly, “It’s just a coincidence, so don’t worry about it.”

After saying that, Cecilia turned around and left, leaving the juicy gossip about Juliana behind.

She pretended she didn’t care about saving people and deliberately kept a distance from Yvette.

Alas, that hardly deterred the cheerful and friendly Yvette, who immediately caught up to Cecilia.

“Ceci, I went to see you at the hospital before, but the nurse said you were already discharged. You

were quite badly

injured. Why didn’t you stay in the hospital for two more days. of observation?”

“Eh, it’s just a small injury,” replied Cecilia.

Yvette noticed that Cecilia didn’t want to talk to her, but she still said bravely, “Ceci, you saved my life. I

want to buy you lunch.”

“There’s no need. Goodbye.”

After saying that, she strode away without giving Yvette another chance to speak.

Yvette was lively and simple, but she was no fool.

Seeing that Cecilia was quite resistant toward her, Yvette didn’t want to bother her anymore.

Still, she felt a little sorry for not being able to befriend Cecilia.

However, it didn’t matter too much. She had a lot of time to convince Cecelia.

Yvette visited the music department for work. She realized Cecilia was headed to the same place as

her.

They were both going to the recording studio complex behind the academic building.

Worried that Cecilia would misunderstand her actions as dogged persistence, Yvette didn’t walk to the

recording studio until Cecilia completely disappeared from her view.

As soon as she exited the academic building, she noticed that Cecilia was blocked by two women at

the gate of the recording studio complex. They did not want to let her through.

“What’s your major? Don’t you know that not just anyone can enter the recording studio complex?”

As she spoke, one of the women gave Cecilia the once over with jealousy burning in her gaze.

“Who does she want to seduce looking like that?” thought the

woman.

Cecilia recognized them. They were Juliana’s loyal lackeys who used to make her life difficult.

However, it seemed that they were blind and didn’t recognize her. “They must have a lot of free time on

hand if they’re deliberately causing trouble,” mused Cecilia.

She ignored the two women and swiped her student card at the gate of the recording studio complex,

opening it.

“Good dogs don’t stand in the way, Scram!”

The women were infuriated by her insults.

“You don’t belong to the music department at all. How could you have a special student card? She

must have stolen someone’s student card and wanted to steal a song!”

After that, they attempted to take Cecilia’s student card. They even planned to use the opportunity to

push her down.

Seeing this, Yvette hurriedly shouted, “Ceci, be careful!”

After shouting, she ran to Cecilia, intending to help.

Cecilia didn’t care about the two women at all. Since they wanted to fight, she wouldn’t hold back,

either.

She nimbly moved to the right before sticking a foot out.

No one could see Cecilia’s movement clearly. The two women tripped over each other and fell to the

ground.

The scene was just as funny as one would imagine it to be.

Yvette ran forward and laughed. “You poor things! Your brain atrophied at such a young age; that must

be why your balance is horrible.”

There were quite a lot of people at the recording studio complex, and they laughed at Yvette’s

comments.

Yvette looked at the two women, who were clad in miniskirts so short they almost lost their modesty

from falling down. She kindly reminded them, “If you don’t get up soon, you’ll be flashing your

underwear to everyone.”

Ashamed and annoyed, the two women tugged at the edges of their miniskirts and got up quickly.

They knew Yvette, so they didn’t dare to offend her and turned their anger on Cecilia.

Just as they were about to pounce on Cecilia and teach her a lesson, they saw a devastatingly

handsome man striding over.

The man was tall and buff. He wore a sharp suit and towered imposingly above them at six feet five

inches tall.

The man had defined brows and sharp eyes, and his other features were absolutely striking, and his

expression was icy. The blood–red mole near the corner of his eye was so seductive that it nearly

made him look quite suggestive.

Women absolutely adored a handsome and attractive man who reeked of a challenge.

Excited screeches instantly filled the air.

The students completely ignored their vice–chancellor, Howard, who trailed Christopher respectfully.

“Is this a new lecturer? He’s so hot!” said one student.

“Can a lecturer have this kind of aura? He must be the head of the board of school administrators.”

A braver woman even wanted to ask Christopher for his number.

But before she could approach him, she was warned off by his cold glare.

Meanwhile, Howard was so anxious that the swooning female students would provoke Christopher and

destroy his intentions of investing in the university.

He scolded, “Don’t crowd around. Get on with your work.”

The more timid students left immediately, but the bolder ones merely walked a little farther, their eyes

still glued to Christopher.

Christopher’s footsteps did not stop as he walked toward Cecilia.

Looking at Christopher’s rapid approach, Cecilia met his aggressive gaze and frowned slightly.

“Why did the elusive Mr. Christopher Forte suddenly come to the music department of Quilton

University?” wondered Cecilia.

She had to suspect Christopher bore ulterior motives in approaching her, given the unusually high

frequency of their meetings.

Thinking of this, she pushed away two students who were still swooning over Christopher and prepared

to enter the recording studio complex.

Alas, her path forward was halted once again. The door of the recording studio complex was closed by

one of the students.
