Chapter 0549
Nicholas still had a bit of conscience left. He knew he was in the wrong, so he didn't argue when I told him to leave again.
He silently got dressed, packing all of his belongings into the bag. As the door closed behind him, a barely noticeable sigh lingered in the air, unable to fade away.
I went back to my room and threw out all the things on the bed, including the towel he had used in the bathroom. I then grabbed some perfume and sprayed every corner of the room.
The next morning, I woke up groggy, feeling as if I hadn't really slept at all.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Yasmine, her voice full of amusement. "What's Nicholas up to now?"
"What happened?" I asked lazily, switching to speakerphone while holding my toothbrush in one hand and a cup in the other.
"Nicholas is too trendy. He's gone viral!' Yasmine's voice was excited. "He did an explicit photoshoot, nearly naked except for the important parts! His official account posted a nine-grid photo collage-each one a masterpiece!"
"What? Say that again." I even wondered if I was still half-asleep. I didn't consider at all that what Yasmine said might be true.
"Don't doubt your ears! I thought I was blind when I saw it too! Nicholas reposted it on his personal account, saying, We are bom naked, it's your mind that's filthy!"
For some reason, his words from last night about giving me an explanation replayed in my head. Was this his idea of making it right?
"Hello? Ari, are you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm here...." I was a little dazed.
"So what do you think happened to him? Is his illness still acting up? Did something trigger him?"
Nicholas' condition probably did leave some aftereffects. Emotional issues were tough to fully cure and required long-term medication and therapy.
Now, I felt like Nicholas wasn't just dealing with depression but perhaps some form of split personality. He couldn't even tell who he truly cared about anymore.
"It's not because of his illness." I was afraid Yasmine would keep asking questions, so I just briefly mentioned the photo from last night.
On the other end of the line, Yasmine let out a series of gasps like an excited kid who got candy from their parents.
Finally, she concluded, "Nicholas really went all out with that self-destructive apology, but he's still a man, though. "Even though we always talk about gender equality, some things just can't be equal. His actions may not make up for everything, but they do show some sincerity."
I shook my head, not really caring about this. "It's all in the past now."
While waiting for Douglas to pick me up for work, I scrolled through my phone in the living room. Surprisingly, online reactions were overwhelmingly positive. No one was cursing him out. Instead, the comments were full of praise.
"In the future, all thirst traps should follow Mr. Hawk's standard.
"I'm officially a die-hard Hawk Corporation supporter. If Mr. Hawk doesn't deserve our loyalty, who does?"
'Raise your hand if you're the dirty-minded one here. Guilty as charged!"
Since moving abroad, I hadn't logged into my account in ages. Some sharp-eyed users noticed I was online and flooded my feed with messages about how I had enjoyed my life back then.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
I scratched my numb scalp and logged out of the app. It was about time to go, so I headed out.
Just as I stepped out, I saw Nicholas standing tall in the courtyard and blocking Douglas's path. In a cold voice, he said, "I'll drive her to work today. Tell her your tire burst and that you can't make it."
