Chapter 72
Chapter 72
At AW Corporation.
After wrapping up a meeting, Taylor retreated to his office, intending to quietly pore over some documents. But all he could think about was Clara’s face and figure.
He had no clue what was happening! It was like he was bewitched, his mind filled with Clara, and he couldn’t get her out of his head.
Unable to concentrate on his work, he got up, walked over to the floor–to–ceiling window in his office, and absent–mindedly lit up a cigarette.
The doctor had warned him to cut down on smoking after he was discharged from the hospital, and he’d been good about it, but this time…. he just couldn’t keep his mind at ease.
“Mr. Atwood!”
His secretary knocked on the door from outside. “The folks in the conference room said they’ve sent over the quarterly summary. Do you want to have a look?”
Taylor waved his hand, “Nah, I’m not in the mood.”
“I’m taking the day off. Don’t bother me unless it’s something important. I need to step out.”
With that, Taylor grabbed his coat from the back of his chair and headed straight out of the office.
The secretary stood there stunned, watching his retreating figure, wondering what he was up to..
Could it be… he was off to see Clara again?
After a moment’s thought, she found a corner and quickly dialled Teresa, Yo, old lady… Mr Atwood’s out again! Looks like he might be going to see Miss Clara!”
“You need to stop him! Don’t let him go after Clara! That woman is nothing but trouble for my son, she’s no good for him!”
“But Mr Atwood… he doesn’t listen to me!”
“Forget it, I’ll call him myself!”
Teresa hung up, leaving the secretary to sigh and start worrying again.
Now… Mr Atwood would know she’d ratted him out, he’d definitely give her a dressing down!
She slapped her forehead in self–reproach.
“God, how could I be so dumb! How did I not see that coming!”
Clara had just dropped Aiden off at his horse–riding class and was leaving when she got a call from Elio.
It would have been evening where he was, so when his call came, she had a sinking feeling.
“Hello?”
“Clara, Alex fell off the balcony. He’s in the hospital now! I tried calling you, but you didn’t pick up!”
“What?! Is it serious? How’s Alex?”
The doctor said he’s got some fractures. He’ll need to rest for a while!” Elio’s voice hardened, “Clara, I don’t know what’s so urgent that you’re always unreachable, but how am I supposed to get in touch with you if something happens? What about Alex? He’s been crying for you!”
Clara’s heart ached as if it was being torn apart. She bit her lip hard to hold back the tears.
I’m sorry it’s all my fault… I’m so sorry…”
“Alex just had some painkillers and fell asleep. I have to say, you’re not giving him the attention he needs! He misses you terribly, and you’ve even stopped the daily video calls!”
“I promise I’ll video call him every day from now on! I won’t go back on my word!” Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
“I hope you keep your promise!”
With that, Elio hung up.
Clara stood there, not knowing what to do next!
She wished she could clone herself and take care of both kids at the same time!
She didn’t even remember how she got home. She even forgot to hail a cab and just walked home, one step at a time.
As soon as she walked in, Emmett looked at her bewildered face and raised an eyebrow, “What’s up with you?”
