Chapter 282
Chapter 282
“What did you say?” Emmett didn’t catch that.”
“Nah, nothing. Let’s attend the study and have a video conference in an hour.”
Emmett nodded in agreement. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
Suddenly, Alex tugged at her sleeve, “Mom, I need to tell you something.”
“What’s up?”
“Today, when Grandma and I went to the bakery, we saw that lady we had met before. She talked with Grandma for quite a while.”
“…The lady we met before?”
Alex nodded, “Yeah, that one-”
But Clara cut him off before he could finish.
“You always beat around the bush when you speak. Have you finished your homework yet?”
Alex pouted, “Not yet.”
“Then hurry up and do it!”
“All right, I’m going to do it now.”
“Off you go.”
Clara put Alex down and headed inside with Emmett.
Halfway, Emmett couldn’t help but ask.
“Do you know the lady Alex was talking about?”
“Huh? I’m not sure who he’s talking about. But I have many classmates and friends. It could be someone Alex has met before and just happened to run into at the store today.”
“But how would Alex know your friends?”
“Of course, he would.” Clara defended instinctively, “Sometimes I meet some friends when I pick up Alex from kindergarten. Alex has a good memory; he would recognize them if he’s seen them before.”
“Oh, I see. I thought there was a friend you hadn’t told me about.”
“No… I wouldn’t dare.” Clara laughed awkwardly, “Let’s go. We should get ready for the meeting. It’s an important one, and we can’t be late.”
Emmett didn’t press further
Late at night, Emmett went to the study for a meeting with Ricardo.
Clara sneaked into Alex’s room. Luckily, he and Aiden were still awake. They were thrilled to see her.
“Mom, why are you here?” Alex jumped into her arms excitedly.
Aiden seemed to sense that Clara had something to say, “Should I go to another room?”
“…I need to ask Alex something.”
Then I’ll go take a shower.”
After Aiden left the room, Clara asked, “The lady you met today, is she the one we met overseas before?”
“Yes!” Alex nodded excitedly, “She even bought us a lot of different pastries! Grandma chatted with her for a long time.”
Clara felt uneasy.
After all, Elio Milburn had repeatedly warned her to be careful of Leah. She didn’t take it seriously then, but now it seemed Leah was not just contacting her after returning to the country.
The encounter at the bakery was too coincidental!
“Mom, what’s wrong? Are you upset because she bought me pastries?” Alex asked quietly.
Clara stroked his hair affectionately, “Of course not. But you should eat less of it, and it’s too sweet and bad for your teeth!”
“I knew it! You should be happy if someone buys food for me! That lady is really generous, and she let us choose anything!” Alex squinted his eyes
happily, then tilted his head as if thinking of something, “But… Mom, why does she always tell Grandma that she wishes she had kids like Aiden and me? She said it several times today! Is she trying to take us away because we are too cute?”
