Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)

Chapter 299

Chapter 299

“I haven’t made up my mind yet; I’m just saying. Don’t get your panties in a twist over it. I’m just letting them meet. I didn’t say she’s gonna tie the knot with our family or anything.”

“Mmm…”

Sophia pursed her lips, “Look, I may not be your biggest fan, but for the sake of my son, I’ll accept you as his wife. As long as you don’t stick your nose in our business too much or fill my son’s head with unnecessary nonsense, you can keep playing house with him.”

Clara just kept her head down and continued her breakfast, not giving her the satisfaction of a response. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

Sophia took Clara’s silence as acceptance of her words, which pleased her. After all, it could push her plans forward.

After breakfast, she headed to the office.

Clara had been in the office for a while before Emmett finally showed up.

There was an urgent meeting first thing in the moming at the company, so Emmett barely had a break before he had to get back to the grind.

Seeing Emmett looking beat, Clara stood up and led him to sit down on the couch, “You look beat. Why don’t you take a breather? Matt’s coming to see you in a bit.

I’ll let him know.”

Emmett waved her off, “It’s cool. I gotta be at the quarterly meeting today. The company found some discrepancies in the books. If I don’t take it seriously now, it might set a bad precedent.”

Clara began massaging his shoulders casually, “So, did you figure out who screwed up the accounts yet?”

“I’ve got Matt on it. He’s been digging into a few people for me lately. I’m sure he’ll get to the bottom of it soon.”

Clara chuckled, then said, “Oh, speaking of which, I have a friend I need to meet today. She’s a girl, and she’s feeling down and wants to chat. Can I go see her for a

bit?”

Emmett eyed her, “You sure it’s a ‘she’ friend?”

“Absolutely! If you don’t believe me, I can have her talk to you.”

Emmett pulled her into his arms, “Well, if you say so, I trust you. You wouldn’t cheat on me. I mean, come on, with a catch like me, who else would you even look

at?”

Clara laughed at his comment, “I wonder who was the one getting all jealous back then, couldn’t even stand me looking at other guys.”

“That’s different! Even now, I’d get mad if you look at other guys. You should only have eyes for me!”

Clara said helplessly, “Only you! Look at me. If I’m not working, I’m helping you schedule stuff. When do I have time to look at other guys? Besides, they’re nowhere near as good-looking as you.”

Emmett nodded in satisfaction, “Keep saying stuff like that. I love to hear it.”

“So, can I go see my friend or what?”

“Can I even say no at this point? I was hoping to have lunch with you, but if you’ve got plans, that’s fine. Just try to come back early. Want me to have Matt drop you off?”

“No need; I drove myself today.”

“Oh.” Emmett looked at her, then suddenly asked, “By the way, did my mother give you a hard time this morning? Or say anything to you?”

Clara shook her head, “Nope, she was just chatting with her two grandsons. I grabbed something to eat and came to work.” –

Emmett knew she might be lying because he knew his mother too well. If he wasn’t home, she might give Clara a hard time.

Suddenly, Emmett gripped her hand tightly, and while looking at her with a serious look, he said, “Whatever my mother says, it doesn’t represent what I think. We share different opinions.”
