Two Times The Charm Novel (Clara and Emmett)

Chapter 301

Chapter 301

Leah blinked, suddenly understanding, “Oh, you mean the lady who’s always decked out in designer gear?”

“Yes! She’s Emmett’s mother.”

Leah nearly jumped out of her seat, “Holy cow! What a coincidence! I swear, I had no clue, and I only had a bit of small talk with her.”

While she was speaking, Clara was watching her, feeling that she didn’t seem to be lying.

“Once, I bought all the pastries, and she couldn’t get any, so I gave her some. That’s all we talked about.”

“Mm-hmm…” Clara nodded.

“I can still go buy pastries after work, right? Bumping into her was totally unexpected. If it bothers you, I won’t go there anymore, okay?”

“It’s not that serious!”

Leah’s face showed a hint of annoyance. “I find this whole thing baffling. Even if you suspect me, I need a motive! What do I gain from getting close to Emmett’s mother? I told you before, I have someone I like. Besides, you and Emmett already have a kid. I couldn’t be clearer about that.”

Clara bit her lip, opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything.

“And why would I, an unmarried woman, have any thoughts about him? Despite his wealth and power, we have nothing in common!”

Clara frowned. She had to admit that Leah had a point.

“I’m sorry, I might have been too impulsive. My apologies.”

Leah acted innocent. “Clara, I can’t accept your apology. I feel insulted. I’ve always treated you like my best friend!”

“I’m sorry…”

“After I came back home, you’re the only one I could talk to about my feelings. But you think I’m scheming against you, that I’m trying to steal your husband. That’s just absurd!”

With that, she stood up to leave. Clara hurried after her, “I apologize. I misunderstood you in a moment of impulsiveness…”

Leah pretended to be very upset, opened her mouth, but swallowed her words… This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

“Nevermind, I know Emmett is great, and your concerns are normal. I should be more understanding. Life in high society is tough. Just stop suspecting me, that’s all!”

Clara clenched her fingers. “Mm-hmm…”

“Don’t worry; I’ll never go to that pastry shop again. If Emmett’s mom contacts me, I won’t reply. Can you trust me now?”

Clara was a bit embarrassed by her words….

She realized she might have jumped to conclusions without any solid evidence, which wasn’t fair to Leah.

Leah patted her hand. “Clara, is that all there is? If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to the office.”

Clara nodded slightly, “All right. I’m really sorry about today. Also, could you not tell your cousin about this? I worry he might get upset, considering he’s always been so good to me, and now I’m suspecting his cousin…”

“Don’t worry! I get it, and it’s not a big deal.”

Leah even smiled at her, comforting her, “I’m not the kind to make a big fuss over small things. What’s past is past. Your trust is more important than anything else. Back home, you’re my only good friend. We still have plenty of time to hang out together!”

Clara said, “All right.”

Leah took a deep breath and started heading for the door.

Suddenly, she turned back to Clara, “By the way, since Emmett’s mom has said so much, does she know who I really am? If she continues investigating… will she discover my fake identity?”
