Passion 64
Compared to the others, Xavier appeared much calmer.
Daphne's gaze landed on Yvette. "Even though my first love and I went through a lot of ups and downs and couldn't get married, I believe that we will eventually be together." It was a veiled warning to Yvette.
The accompaniment began, and Daphne's new song "A Sliver of Light" filled the air with its beautiful and touching melody.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
For some reason, Yvette found it familiar, but she couldn't quite remember where she had heard it before.
"The melody is quite nice. It's a shame she ruined the song with her singing," Xavier said softly from beside her.
His words snapped her out of her reverie. Daphne might have debuted as a pop star, but her voice was actually quite underwhelming.
He looked at Yvette. "I remember that you used to enjoy singing."
Yvette would have almost forgotten about that if he hadn't mentioned it. Perhaps she had inherited it from Yara, but she'd had a keen sense of music from a young age. Unfortunately, her partial deafness proved fatal in the music industry.
Xavier had accidentally heard her hum once, and it had sounded beautiful. He couldn't help but think that it would have sounded exceptional if she had been the one singing this song. Yvette was surprised that he still remembered that she enjoyed singing, especially since he used to detest any noise at home. "Is that so? I don't remember," she responded.
In the dim light, Xavier gazed at her and asked, "Then, do you remember that Daphne's first love was
me?"
He had come there to see how Yvette would react to Daphne. He didn't believe that she wouldn't be affected by what Daphne had said.
"You were the one who snatched me away from Her," he said, word by word, staring at her intently.
Bullshit! He had broken up with Daphne before their families had started talking about their marriage. Yvette was furious that he was twisting the truth like that, but she couldn't let it show. She sneered inwardly. Two could play this game.
"Seriously? I might have a hearing impairment, but I'm not blind. Was I that unattractive back then that I had to compete with her for a man?"
Xavier's expression hardened slightly. "Do you find other men better than me?" He would have demanded an explanation from her if they were alone.
She realized he was angry and decided to stop pushing it. "I was just saying that, Mr. Lane. Don't take
it too personally."
How could he not take it personally? Yvette was like a completely different person after she came back. He wanted to speak up, but Daphne's song had come to an end.
Frankly, after the first few lines in the beginning, he and Yvette hadnpaid much attention to the rest of Daphne's performance at all.
After her performance ended, applause erupted from the crowd. Even though Daphne's singing was average, the melody of the new song was truly captivating, much better than any of her previous songs. Few had already predicted that the new song would be a hit as soon as it was released.
Daphne's new single release was a resounding success. Amidst everyone's compliments, she couldn't help but look at Yvette, beaming with pride. Finally, she had once again proven that she was no less than Yvette!
After the media dispersed, Daphne walked straight up to Xavier and Yvette and said, "I knew you'd come, Xav. You've never missed any of my important moments before
Witnessing this scene, Yvette felt a jumble of emotions. After hearing that, the other guests at the event naturally assumed that Xavier had shown up for Daphne
